  1. i looked this up during the week & I think last years "survival" quota was low & we probably need another 3 - 5 points before we can really say we are safe.

there is still a lot of games left & anyone can beat anyone in this league

13 points above 6th is another nice stat. 33 more points should see us in a playoff place - that's 1.2222222 pts per game.

  2. OP, I think it's customary when starting a thread such as this to add some info like the fixtures. I'd thought I would do it for you....

    03/12 - Donny (a) - win

    10/12 - Blackpool (h) - win

18/12 - skate b@stards were coming for you

    26/12 - Palace (h) - win

    30/12 - Bristol City (h) - convincing win

Great time to be a SAINT, hopefully our home form will keep up with 3 home games inc. Blackpool & Bristol c (can't let them do the double on us) & we can beat the skates.

8 points from the next 4 games would see us with 50 points at the half way point in the season - I'd take that :)

  3. Yep, no tough games there........apart from Peterborough, Brighton, Blackpool, Pompey & Palace. And everyone else trying to knock us off our perch.

    this,

As Our Nige would say - one game at a time so right now I would settle for being on 33 points come 10 o'clock tonight' date='[/quote']

    & this.

will be more than content with 20 pts

i'd take 20 points. it would leave us in a great position.

  4. Celtic fans still think he's 'pish' apparently... I don't think we should correct them - Jos can do that himself when we play them in Europe.

there is 1 or 2 interesting comments on this thread...

Terrible players can cut it in the Championship as we know.

Doing well at Southampton should not have us yearning for his return. Lets just hope it means we might have some mug club out there willing to give us a fee.

Looked alright on his debut, but I don't think rushing him through so quickly, especially as he was in between seasons due to the Swedish season, and playing him through injury helped him.

Every time he played for us, on top of everything else, he didn't look fit. It wouldn't be the first time we have rushed a player into the first team to the detriment of their overall fitness.

In the 2-2 game against Inverness, he looked as if he was tring to hard. After every mistake he made, he would shout and rant at himself. Don't think he was helped that day with the 3-5-2 formation.

{another poster replied} - To be fair we didn't concede any goals in that game until he was taken off

  5. Don.t know about Rickie for England, but trapatoni should be looking at Connelly for Ireland

Connolly (according to wiki) was in Trapa's first squad, but was injured at the time. I'd have mixed feelings about DC getting another call up - I'd be delighted for him & he we could do with him for the playoffs, but I'd be very concerned about him picking up a knock.

  6. as others have said "4 games do not make a season", it's also worth noting that some of the other teams in the top 6 have other tough games coming up & I am sure there are not many in the league (other than the p*mpey suicide squad) that look forward to meeting us.

Boro & Derby meet on the 22nd. West Ham have to play Brighton (fair enough, but they are still in top 6) along with Blackpool & Leicester. It's a tough league & everyone will drop points.

  7. Wingers useful so Guly can be moved to striker. But is that harsh on Lee Holmes? It's hard to tell where to strengthen while getting such good results to be honest.

I'm not hugely convinced by loans for anything but emergency cover, like NGuessan last season. Get them in when it'd be a waste of money to spend and boost numbers short term. Maybe if Holmes, Guly or De Ridder get injured we'll bring a winger in.

what's your thoughts about Chaplow? or, Papa Waigo/the Reading lad who's name escapes me from the season before? was Guly initially a loan? & according to the majority of 'those that go' Jos is settling in nicely.

to me loans represent a low risk option to strengthen regardless of it's emergency cover or try before you buy.

  8. I can't be certain, this is just my own speculation, but I'd guess the beginnings of this came from Clive Woodward.

I seem to remember talk about prozone/sports science during the WGS era.

  9. I don't see the panic about getting a forward - as others have said we have scored 25 so far - and that's from 10 different players.

defence is more of an issue for me. We still need to fill the no5 shirt, how long will Seaborn be out for? & have only conceded 1 less goal than p*mpey!

Why are we talking about filling a position now that we already knew needed filling back in May ? Would it not have been worthwhile paying a little bit over the odds to get to the Premier League ?

your right & your wrong. We have all seen the gaps in the team that need to be filled (even me, on the west coast of Ireland). but it is important to bring in the right one or 2 players. we have a large enough squad already, we don't really need to panic buy & it's not that bad a thing to be a little stretched - it allows youth room to come through.

I would rather (especially following our start) we wait for the right players than signing for the sake of it & ending up with a bloated/unaffordable squad. Along with that I would rather not see anymore puncheons/big time charlies.

I totally agree and have always felt it is generally better to bring someone in permanently than just a loan, as like you I do worry that too many players without an affinity to the Club may be detrimental. Transient loanees or journeymen aren't really my cup of tea, but on the odd occasion when done well, loanees can most certainly do a job.

over the last couple of years we have done very well in the loan market & we seem to like 'try before you buy'... i think we'll have 2 new faces in before January.

  10. As a courtesy to the paying customers could the players not be persuaded to forego their usual goal celebrations and re-enact all goals in slow motion instead ?

this would be the best goal celebration ever

  11. I suppose Id have taken it. I guess..

I was going to start this thread during the week because win lose or draw today I would have taken top 6 after 10 games. To be 2 points clear & with our GD is just gravy.

Lambert - untried at this level - top scorer in the league. He's scored 8 in the league.

the doubters should be ashamed of themselves - scored his 59th goal for the club today, he's on the way to becoming a legend.

  12. Great to be back on winning ways :) clean sh!t :) 2 pt lead @ top of the league after 10 games :)

I'ts still early day's & we have a tough month ahead, but i'm starting to believe we could be in the hunt of an automatic spot at the end of the season.

i may be wrong but we have won 2 out of the 3 games we have played against top half teams..???

    Cardiff (a) 2-1 loss

    Leicester (a) 3-2 loss

    Ipswich (a) 2-5 win

    Leeds (h) 3-1 win

6 points from those 4 games is respectable enough imho & I think most would have taken them before the season started.
