Noodles34 Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 A little advice boys, try be a bit funny, try and be a bit contraversial and try and be a bit different. All credit for doing what you are doing in this 'internet' age etc, but I have to say, reading your fanzine was boring. I am sorry for being honest, but fanzines were always fun and near the bone, upsetting the establishment, the management, the board and the players, and the fans! Sorry, I dont want to read about the same old stuff I can read anywhere, I think your front cover sums it up, not funny. Put a picture of Pardew and Fonte and some witty caption, dont have to be libellous, just near enough to it. Good luck!
redandwhitebill Posted 2 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 2 January, 2011 Hi Noodles, thanks for the critique and honesty is preferred to fake praise! We will try and move in that direction as you are not the first to have said it - having said that, I have had far more people say they enjoy the fanzine due to its positive nature and don't want to see the "upsetting the establishment, the management, the board and the players, and the fans" you mention. A lot of people said they stopped buying previous fanzines because of the constant board-bashing and negativity and like the fact we are trying something new. Totally respect your point of view though. And RE the cover - I think the irony may have passed you by. It is meant to be a joke on the fact that for all the 125 celebrations and talk of a fresh start, the season has been weighed down by familiar themes of the past ie managerial change, ownership uncertainty and a crap start. Cheers for giving us a go tho!

Cheers for giving us a go tho! I didn't really get the cover at first, either, but that explanation has really helped - LOL! I think it might have helped if that explanation was on the front cover too? Perhaps something to think about in future issues? Thanks, and keep up the good work! COYR! Cheers for giving us a go tho! sorry for being a bit harsh, i really know what its like to do what you are doing, but one thing I have always welcomed is a bit of honest critique. Dont mean to be negative for the sake of it but like i said, you got to be a bit different, and contrary to waht people have told you, I believe people want to read all the nasty stuff, thats why The Sun is the no1 paper, they want the bull****, the gossip and the scandal. Thats not saying 'lets slag off the board' for the sake of it but there are plenty of other things to target too. One thing i did like was the player interviews etc, a few more past players, people associated with the club etc and even some fresh perspective from the youth team players maybe? Sincerely, good luck with it, if you are selling 1500 to 2000 then i reckon you are doing well.
Deppo Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 I would be willing to write an irreverent column for your rag. It could be called Deppo's Tedious Unfunny Column.
hamster Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 I would be willing to write an irreverent column for your rag. It could be called Deppo's Tedious Unfunny Column. Now that would be funny. Bill, sign him up. Seriously it would increase the circulation imho.
hamster Posted 3 January, 2011 Share Posted 3 January, 2011 ..and a letters page might work well?? Dear Ed,
redandwhitebill Posted 3 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 3 January, 2011 Deppo, on a serious note we are always looking to have more contributors. Feel free to PM me the first edition of "Deppo's Tedious Unfunny Column," the more irreverent the better. Hamster, a letters page is something we are considering as a lot of other fanzines have them and they make good reading. I may try and get something together for the next issue, either by advertsising for letters on here or elsewhere. PM me the first if you want. And Noodles, feedback is the most useful thing we could ask for at this stage, so don't worry about being harsh - and, as above, please PM me ideas if you want to get involved. And generally, we will be selling issue 4 before the Blackpool game on Melbourne St, which leads to the Chapel Stand, and on Northam Rd, opposite the King Alfred pub. Afterwards, we will be on Britannia Rd. We have found these places to have the best walkthroughs but try out diffrent places. Cheers, Will

Topcat Posted 7 January, 2011 Share Posted 7 January, 2011 How about Cortese and Pardew's picture on the front and Cortese saying "I dont know why Pardew did not like my Xmas present of a horses head?" or if Wotton goes to the skates someone asking Cortese "Where's Wotton" and Cortese saying "He sleeps with da fishes"
um pahars Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Hats off to the lads knocking out this fanzine. Have bought everyone so faras always like to support someones ghard efforts and have been reading fanzines since they appeared back in the 80's (remember buying The End outside Anfield many moons ago - now that was a good fanzine). Just think the current version is a bit tame/longwinded. As others have mentioned I think it needs to be a bit risquey, have a touch of humour and perhaps look to involve other things such as culture, music and a bit of comedy. Not suggesting it needs to be controversial or risquey for its own sake, just something a bit different. It must be difficult given the plethora and immediacy of the internet, but think there is still a market for a good fanzine out there. How many are you selling of each version??? wadesmith Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 How about Cortese and Pardew's picture on the front and Cortese saying "I dont know why Pardew did not like my Xmas present of a horses head?" or if Wotton goes to the skates someone asking Cortese "Where's Wotton" and Cortese saying "He sleeps with da fishes" This joke doesn't work because why would anyone like a horses head as a present? The second one is painfully unfunny.
hamster Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Bought a copy toady from your mate in the industrial estate. Just my luck that Rickie Lambert bloke was just around the corner and a girl i was with had nothing for him to signm so I am now fanzine-less. Bugger. redandwhitebill Posted 9 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Thanks for that um Pahars, that is a direction we are moving in for the next issue and will definitely be having some more light-hearted content. We are managing to shift a fair few although it varies from issue to issue, low hundreds. Having just seen the draw, may have to try and get one out for then!
