I see Bristol City lost almost 2million last year.

Despite having a total wage bill of only 8.8 million and getting to the play-offs.

Our total wage bill of nearly 15 million and next to last place in the CCC doesn't

make much sense really does it?

Nowadays our club just can't afford the average wages that footballers expect in this league. We're a struggling bottom-half CC club, our stadium debt and operating costs are a major handicap and accounts for about a quarter of our income.

Completely agree, but then we know that don't we, why did we have a salary mass last season of around 15 million when it seems 8.8 million does the trick?

I'm talking about total, all in salary mass here in case anyone is confused.

It seems that the more you pay the players, the shi*ttier they get.

George Burley made too many bad signings. Hone should have been shot for paying silly wages to the likes of Rasiak, Idiakez, Safri etc.

Perhaps they seemed reasonable to him after his Fulham experience ?

I mean when you're used to clacking millions on rubbish, ten's of thousands on

bigger rubbish must seem like a snip.

I can't help trhinking that if we HADN'T got to the play-offs the season before we would have been more cautious.

Interesting to read the point that their playing budget was £7m and their chairman reckoned a bill of around £10m was seen as the benchmark to get in the top 6.

We had a circa £10m bill in 2006/7 (and go to the play offs) which went up to £12m last season (and got involved in a relegation battle).

Loads of research in the Premiership & Championship shows there is a direct correlation between wages paid and league position.

However, with all these statistical analyses, there are exceptions and last year we were definitely an exception!!!!!!

But in 2006/7 we had a total salary mass, including NHS and pensions of over 15 million. They had (it would seem ) less than a couple of mill on top of the player/coach figure, we had + 4 million and more.

SFC costs too much to run other than football, that's the point that I constantly (and no doubt boringly) make. We need to close down the superstores and whatever have you and cut out costs to the bone.

No point selling associated gumph if uit costs so much that you can't afford to play football. Seems like everybody and his dog is a steward these days,

how much did stewarding cost us last season??

Not a lot of point in only looking at one side of the accounts. Brizzle spent less on wages but did they generate the same income? Not really apples and apples.

That said we clearly have an issue with costs, which needs addressing. problem is we all moan like hell when anything is done to deal with the problem. PRetty thankless task runing a football club, really.

Interesting.

Where did you get their total wages bill being £8.8m to get the £2m other from, compared to our £4.5m other????

£0.5m of our £4.5m was the directorate, which was reduced under Crouch and now again under Lowe, but, like you I wonder what the balance is.

I have often said our infrastruture is still very big and wonder how much of that is linked to St Mary's and also how much is linked to revenue drivers (corporate hospitality etc etc). It's certainly an area I would have taken the knife to before I cut back on anything that affected what happened out on the pinch. However, whether it is possible to cut some costs and whther they then impact on revenue is another question!!!!

I got there total wage amount from the BBC article, it's probably fairly correct though.

We can't, but apparantly some still can. I see Paddy Kenny's new contract at Sheff Utd is set to be worth a reported 26K a week!

Unreal amount of money for any side in this division to be paying IMO.
