Bertrand is the same age as Gibbs and just because he was picked for one match against San Marino (and he plays for Arsenal), he is now being hailed as contender for England LB ahead of Baines and Shaw. Amazing what a few months does to people's opinion. It was Saints and Liverpool being the saviours and future of England.....now its Arsenal.

If only it were that easy! Put the best players in each position together and there is no guarantee that it will work as well. Mind you, that is not to say it wouldn't be better either - but as they say, form is transient, class is permanent. It isn't just the press that would go into melt down if England put a team out like that - many of the fans would too. Hodgson's problem is to take our best players and make them better as a unit. To be fair to him it is something we have been struggling with for many years.
