Southampton was under siege when we played them at the Dell in the FA Cup. And there was the classic time when they swarmed all over Carrow Road, one United fan fell through the roof and an old lady stuck the boot in as he was lying on the ground They were among the worst in the 70s, and their behaviour set a bit of a benchmark for others (Chelsea for example) to aim for. They’d always come to games in droves, I remember masses of the bastards c72, and then there was our relegation match in 1974, which fortunately was a ticket match (not that a regular feature then). The first pitch invasion I recall in the national news was after they were relegated in their Man City match that season. 1975 I think they clinched promotion at The Dell which led to a pitch invasion after the game, and vaguely recall them collapsing the goal at the Archers Road end. Made 1976 all the sweeter. But the following season as you say was potential carnage. Edited 2 hours ago by Badger
