Hunty Posted 28 March, 2009 Share Posted 28 March, 2009 Met 2 mates last night who paid by card on the toll road. Both received counterfeit Abbey bank fraud letters, urging them to call. All looked above board apart from the Abbey logo on the top of the letters. They called the official bank fraud number who informed them the letters were an attempt to defraud the card holders and nothing to do with the bank, so if anyone else receives these letters, don't call the numbers on them! Window Cleaner Posted 28 March, 2009 Share Posted 28 March, 2009 I am intrigued, how did the dastardly villains get the addresses to send the letters. I mean here in France everybody pays road tolls by Carte Bleue, shove it in the machine, take it out and drive on, nobody ever gets dodgy mail from it though. I've no idea how their details were collated, just passing on what I was told. Regular away fans will at least recognise, if not know in person the two involved, it is the truth, but the only place they can put their card statements together was the toll road, albeit 3 hours apart! Al de Man Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 Anybody can pay the DVLA a few quid and get the address of the registered owner based on a vehicle's plate. All they have to do is say they want the details because it was involved in a hit & run, parked on private land or anything like that. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/AdviceOnKeepingYourVehicle/DG_4022066 Also on that link is what to do if you think your vehicle's details have been obtained unlawfully. It may be worth letting your mates know and requesting the DVLA investigate.
Flyer Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 Isnt it more likely someone working for Abbey is in collusion with someone working at the toll? Was it a Nigerian prince working at the toll? Im really surprised the police cant do anything, obviously the money or info had to be sent somewhere, surely that would lead to the fraudsters? Mole Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 I never use the M6 toll - there's no point. Since the by-pass was put in the old M6 at Birmingham runs lovely on matchdays.

Horse and courses for the toll. Definitely worth using in the rush hour.
Legod Third Coming Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 Horse and courses for the toll. Definitely worth using in the rush hour. It is worth using any time. It is empty and perfect blacktop. If you want to test the top speed of any motor, who could ask for more?
N/West Saint Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 Horse and courses for the toll. Definitely worth using in the rush hour. i allways use it when traveling down. infact i paid 4.50 last week to come down to southampton and 3 days later on my return it had gone up to 4.70. Deano6 Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 What has this Abbey fraud got to do with the M6 Toll, other than a bit of circumstantial coincidence?
Al de Man Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 What has this Abbey fraud got to do with the M6 Toll, other than a bit of circumstantial coincidence? With only two, it is only a coincidence, but if other toll users start getting the letters it'll be a pattern worth taking to the police.
