No doubt about it, he was poor in 21/22. We rightly signed a new keeper (personally I wanted both Forster and McCarthy replaced). But we signed the wrong keeper. During 22/23 we should have dropped Baz and played McCarthy, but seemingly we didn't want him playing a certain number of games in the season so we could cut his wages in half. That's football business. This season we again go with Baz. That's fine, it was RM's choice, but again he doesn't look great, yet we stick with him rather than play McCarthy. Do you really think McCarthy has been completely happy to be overlooked for two seasons for a keeper that simply has not performed well? In contrast to your thoughts, I'd say that if he has been fine with it, then he can p*ss off. I want players desperate to play, not happy to pick up a pay check.

He's a professional footballer not being picked and the guy that has his shirt ain't doing a great job. I'd be amazed if he has spent the year just smiling at his bank balance. It almost seemed like we didn't play him a lot last season to ensure he didn't get a contract extension, despite it crying out for a keeper change. How happy would you be? I agree that Macca's longer passes, especially those out wide, have been as good, if not better than Baz's. I would question his decision-making on the shorter stuff, but not sure Baz is perfect in that area either. Agree also that it's academic. Macca is off. In his eyes he will feel he has been treated pretty shabbly this season. I know money talks, so if we offer him a better deal than anyone else he might stay, but it feels like a natural parting of ways is inevitable. As for his replacement, I doubt we will sign one unless we get promoted, but if we do, then who is doing the scouting, because it hasn't exactly been great.
