Better. Giving new contracts to players not good enough for the championship doesn't seem like a good plan to me. With Baz out injured, he will either be starting or on our bench. That does not fill me with much joy. If you are happy with that, fine. It's a long summer and then a long old season. We'll circle back.
-
time is on his side, but looked ill equipped to run a midfield in the championship. He's going to have to make massive strides to be an effective holding midfielder in the Prem. he needs games. Lots of them to develop his game. A season out on loan at the right side could be the making of him.
-
Hope we can get him here. Not aa foregone conclusion. Forest couldn't sign James Garner from United when the came up and it really left a hole in their midfield Our loans will obviously be back at SMS collecting their wages all summer. I wonder, do they get Championship (reduced if it was in their contract) wages or Prem wages?

Not sure why finding two keepers would be such a nightmare. Like last time when McCarthy and Forster were on the verge of leaving, I see it as an opportunity not a problem. Lumley looked shit in that Watford game. I've seen little else of him, but fans of previous clubs have little positive to say about him. No idea why we have given him a new contract when the manager didn't even think he was as good as McCarthy. Not a ringing endorsement.

spot on and I guess Bertrand and Romeu fall into that category. The issue these days is that the Chelsea cast offs are all on £100k a week.

Decent shout that. Picking up these genuinely talented young players that haven't quite made it at the big clubs might be a good idea. i guess the only concern would be if their confidence has been savagely dented. We need to sign technically gifted players and they don't come cheap and the Man City youth team has been areal mixed bag.

Southampton 1-0 Leeds - Saints are Promoted!!

had a great time yesterday, the whole day and beyond, but have to say, watching football from row 37 of the top tier was fucking awful. Like watching from the Goodyear Blimp. Yes, you can see what is going on, but you are so detached from the game. The rows are so fucking steep i was terrified if we scored that I might emulate the Gloucester Cheese Rolling competitors. Better than not getting a ticket, obviously, but far from ideal. -
Can anyone explain why we gave Lumley a contract despite us picking McCarthy to play? Perhaps McCarthy had already made his mind up to leave and they didn't want to be left short. Perhaps McCarthy's wage demands were too high for a back up. Two ends of the spectrum. It could have been: New keeper, Baz, McCarthy, Wright It might be: Baz, Lumley, Lis, Wright

This is when I wish I had watched more football. Ramsdale ain't joining us. No chance. But signing `monster' keeper like him that exudes confidence is essential. We need better quality at left back. I still think Omar Richards might be a good option. He's back to full fitness and played games for Olympiacos toward the end of the season. He has the talent and technical ability Manning and Perraud lack. Hard to fault Fraser - he works his socks off, but he lacks that x factor (as a winger) you need at the to level. As a wing back he might be OK. Would Carvalho be a realistic signing? Or will Liverpool just bide their time with him? I'm not averse to us signing Brooks. He may have been a little up and down, but you've got to win a few games simply because a forward player performs some magic. Downes is a no brainer. Said we should sign him from Swansea. Quality player. My opinion has not changed. the little shimmy he did yesterday makes me think he can step up to the Pre no problem. Sander Berge or Ben Sheaf might be an option. We need some legs in that midfield area. Physical attributes, bite and technical ability is a tough combination to find. Aribo looked excellent yesterday, but we could do with a player that covers the ground to add to the group. Not sure we have a role for Hamer and O'Hare, but both look excellent footballers. Burnley players are worth looking at, just because they play the way we do and their wages will be in line with ours. I haven't got any idea at CF. Stewart has proved nothing so far. He might be tshe answer, he might be a league 1 player for all I know. Broja is the only guy I have seen live that has what we need. If we can find a player with his attributes, pace, power and ability on the ball then snap him up.
-
If we want to continue playing the same way, we are going to need to sign quite a few technically top notch footballers. We also need to add some pace and a little power too. Far from an easy task, but much more fun than if we'd not gone up. Imo we need to be ruthless. 'ok' in the championship is simply not good enough in the Prem.

Got to say the Leeds fans on my tube were sound. "Best of luck. Southampton always likeable and Le Tiss is a legend." -
Downes signing is key. Got to aim higher than Adams and McCarthy. Offloading the players that wanted out is also important.

Sling doors moment. Get the recruitment right over next few windows and we can go places. -

Cream crackered. Said weeks ago we'd win the play offs...and felt confident all afternoon. When it comes to the crunch games, the teams with the attacking talent are the ones to back. Brilliant to get promoted after such a shit show last season. Exciting summer ahead. -
he's 22. Plenty of time to fulfil the talent he showed at our place. It's not easy finding strikers that are effective in the Prem. I've not seen too many in the Championship that look like they could cause issues for CBs in the Prem. Sign someone from abroad and it can take a season or so for them to find their feet too. When we go up, striker will be a key signing.

I am much the same. Old enough to live with whatever outcome. However, having got a ticket for Wembley, as always I am going to be fully invested whilst at the match. To help ramp up the importance, think of Sunday as a really pivotal moment. Win and we get promoted, possibly survive next season, slowly build a team that punches above its weight, maybe gets into Europe and/or even finally wins a cup, a trillionaire buys us, spends a fortune and we become the next Man City. Lose and we stay in the championship, the side is weakened on his season, we don't make the play offs, money gets tighter and the side gets worse, we eventually have a poor season and get relegated...whilst having the suffer the Skates go the other way. Shudder. -

Adams has been injured. His absence has got nothing to do with his move. With or without Stewart we will be strong. -
Excellent. That means even more Saints fans get tickets than originally planned. Anyone on here get one? Where were they located?
-
Happy days. Are you referring to New Zealand, Wight or Portsea?

Bird in the hand ScandiSaint. Bird in the hand.

The original intention was for all tickets to be posted. Obviously, this new batch is being sold two days later, so post is not a great option. I'd follow the instructions on the Saints website - the booking system (charging you for postage) and automated email confirmation probably have not been updated (the system has shown very little flexibility for everything else, so not surprised they have used the same elements as for the original ticket sale). I would request a refund from the club for the postage. It would be fraud to take that money when there was no intention to post anything.

Personally, I'd like to see Leeds back in the Prem too. I like it when big teams and big away supports come to St Marys. It creates an atmosphere you just don't get when the likes of Fulham come to town. So, I hope they have a good season in the Championship next season and get promoted. -

He's welcome to have an opinion. Mine is that there should be a public enquiry into how this prick is employed by the BBC. 606 was a decent show back in the day. With him at the helm, I'd rather drive in silence. -
Not for me. He has always been a bit overrated IMO, but however good you think he was at his best, he was very poor in the season before Leicester City let him go. He's ageing (37) and like Perraud was not deemed good enough for OGC Nice this year, so was farmed out to Anderlecht. In the Championship, maybe, but if we go up we need someone top-notch approaching their prime.
-
I guess sponsors and staff were all eligible to X number of tickets. I think 3000 for both clubs was mentioned somewhere - not sure how accurate that figure is. Many won't have been taken. You are not allowed to sell them, so there is no point in taking them unless you have someone to give them to. Great news for those that missed out on Monday. Good luck folks.
