  1. Tough for the Blades. Berge won't sign a new deal so they have little choice but to sell. Allowing players to walk on frees kills you financially. The flip side to that is they, like us, insisted on a high fee for Berge, which didn't materialise, so they brought it in on themselves, albeit they got great service for him.
  2. You're not selling him to me.
  3. Maybe we can eek out a few more quid then we managed with Hoj. He had us over a barrel then. Not sure he does this time around. Why do I feel like a move to Spurs was always the plan and somehow they get JWP for less than even West Ham are willing to pay?
  4. Isn't he one of those guys that isn't physically dominant enough to play CB and not quick or skillfull enough to play rb? I dont know enough about him.
  5. United want £40m for him, so no reason why we can't ask the same for JWP.
  6. What if the bid was £20m or £30m or £35m? Would it not be risky to turn those bids down? We have turned offers down because we know the right price. I don't agree that we 'don't need money'. If we are so rich, why did we not spend £500m last summer like Chelsea on world class talent instead of tens of millions on untried youngsters? We have to work within a budget just like everyone else. There isn't an endless pot of money provided by the owner. We need to balance the books this summer and seem to be doing that.
  7. They are. Wolves, Sheff United just two clubs linked with him. He ain't joining us in the championship.
  8. Don't agree with this. We haven't turned down reasonable bids. We have turned down insufficient bids.
  9. I'd be extremely surprised if he didn't leave.
  10. He was suggested earlier on this thread by one or two of us. One of the best players in League 1 last season. Norwich sold him for £1m this summer. Record signing for Plymouth, but seems a bargain. No idea why Norwich did that, but money is very tight, so maybe they had to.
  11. There's me thinking it was us not West Ham that went down.
  12. He was turd the season before they were relegated. Made a shed load of mistakes that he'd be crucified for on here. Personally, I think he has been massively overrated and Leicester should have upgraded a few years back. Not to say he's not better than AM, but I don't think he's coming to the championship this summer.
  13. I thought Scamacca was made for the Prem and was just the player we needed. I guess I was wrong, although he started ok and then injury wrecked his season after xmas. West Ham seem to make a habit of spending big on oversees talent that doesn't work out (they are not the only ones). Like with Downes, I thought they'd give him a second season to show he has what it takes. I'm sure Moyes is using Scamacca as an example of why signing a player like JWP makes more sense than 'gambling' on talent from another league.
  14. People underestimate what a good footballer he is. It's all in the first touch. His is first class. Grimes may well replace him and he may be considered a decent player it this level, but he isn't in the same class.
  15. Would be surprised if Ipswich spent £8m on anyone this summer. There was a story along these lines back in May. Nothing has happened. If they were going to make that kind of investment they would have done it by now.
  16. Charles was about £10m with adds ons taking it to £15m. I think £15m on the right guy is possible - assuming we have sold Adams for similar - but not sure we'll spend more than that on a player. What kind of amount will Swansea want for Grimes? I'd guess £15m would get Piroe (and it could well be less) seeing as he can walk (like Adams) for nothing.
  17. there is no link other than he played for us. The massive wages and two year contract mens he is only ever departing West Ham on loan. No championship club is affording him even if West Ham paid half the wages.
  18. was that the Luke Shaw/Lambert pen game?
  19. How long is it since we won on the first day of the season by the way?
  20. Having not seen the game it's hard for me to comment, but was the style any different to the Puel possession based game which (not trying reopen the was Puel actually good debate) bored people to tears when we failed to create chances, score goals and win games?
  21. You think we'll spend £20m on a player while in the Championship? I'd hope our scouting was better than that. Mumba going to Plymouth for example for £1m and he can play.
  22. As much as it's good to go for guys like Grimes and Piroe that know the system, I'd also like to see us branch out a bit and cream off some championship talent like him.
  23. That's exactly what is going to happen imo.
  24. Why aren't Prem sides going for him?
  25. Would be good to see him back at his best in his final season with us (I presume). Needs to be fully fit and making those lung busting runs breaking between the lines. Like to see him making more third man runs into the box. We need runners without the ball to hurt opponents and he could do that.
