  1. Not really, gets him some game time.

If Cedric is staying, he'll be first choice with a smattering of Valery.

Doubt that, I think Valery has done plenty enough to start the season as first choice.

  2. Feck this is boring reading. What does it matter to Saints future prospects what 2 clubs (1 in the championship) spent last season?

It doesn't, it's just people state things that are just outright wrong on here quite often like "wolves outspent fulham" and I think it clogs up conversation. Will stop discussing it now though as I think I have made my point.

  3. Jiménez and Dendoncker were both loans with a commitment to buy. Similar to Ings. Fulham had no agreements like this.

+ I said "bought" not loans. You've listed 7 Fulham loans in your 15

++ I said "last summer" and you've included players fulham got in January.

So as I said and stand by... Wolves "bought" more and spent more than fulham

Point is buying loads and spending lots doesn't guarantee failure or success.

    Hope this isn't too complicated

Ok firstly loaned players still count as players that need integrating into the team, so when discussing bringing loads of players in loaning should absolutely count. Secondly, I didn't just include players Fulham brought in in Jan, I also included wolves. Fulham brought in 3 players in Jan, whereas Wolves brought in two. This doesn't change the fact that Wolves brought in many less players over the course of the season. Furthermore, Fulham spent only 1.8m on Babel and the other two were free in January. Wolves however spent 18.45m on Otto as well as a loan. Therefore, if we exclude January you just get even more wrong (stats for january signings - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/46728559).

Finally how can you possibly say Wolves spent more than Fulham. Even if you ignore all loans, ignore January (which, as I have said, weakens your argument rather than strengthens it) how in any way have Wolves spent more? That is just factually wrong.

  4. Might be easier if you list the players signed by both and price they paid? As you seem to have some complicated inclusion/exclusion policy

  5. Or doing a Wolves?

Wolves bought more players and spent more than fulham last summer. But they don't get used as an example as they did well?

Nonsense, Wolves brought in 10 players and spent £90m over the course of the 2018/19 season and Fulham brought in 15 players and spent £105m. Wolves also brought in £8m to Fulhams £4m (note for the purposes of this I am ignoring Afobe for wolves as they signed him for 10m and sold him for 12m in the same window). I don't know what the point is of just making up easily checkable facts.

  6. Leipzig want £27m for Upamecano.

Sell Forster, Austin and McCarthy, get him in

That's actually in all seriousness proper cheap. If that's true and RH has sway still over convincing the player to come here we should smash that. Fits our model perfectly.

  7. Lookman close to Leipzig move.
Shame we didn't manage to sign him but 22.5m seems like insane money for a player who couldn't start ahead of Theo Walcott. Still, seems talented so gotta wish him the best. May mean Augustin going the other way which is a shame as I am still really hoping we put something together for him at the last minute and have Ings, Adams, augustin, and obafemi as our forwards.

  8. Not happening. We will be lucky to get one and that is probably reliant on shifting one or two that we have already.
Doubt this. We will definitely get one. If we shift Hoedt and Yosh we will probably get two but the second will be more a young up and coming back up.

  9. I think you need to go back to school and work on your maths!

Your bottom 5 form as you put it would, over the whole season last year, have put us on 50 points and 8th place. Hardly bottom 5.

Would have put us on 49.4 points, Watford finished 11th with 50 pts so would have had us 12th. The season before we would have finished 8th with 50 points, just above Everton. Either way, you are right, 1.3 points a match is somewhere in the 13th-7th region, very comfortably midtable, pushing europe, no where near relegation.

  10. If you are right then it seems Cedric Soares passed whatever test was set in Ralph's mind which can only be a good thing. Surely 'though Stevens cannot be, yet he played? What's your reading of his situation?

I'm hoping he is in last chance saloon but maybe we rate him. He is able to play at RB as well and isn't on huge wages, maybe he is being kept as an option in case we can't sign another RB or CB as a 4th choice utility player.

  11. Just pointing out to you that it is impossible to infer anything from yesterday's team selections for the end of session kick-about.
Disagree entirely. Just because we didn't use a strongest team doesn't mean it was just a kick about. Looked more to me like an assessment of the skills of fringe players to see who gets really pushed over the summer and who gets sold/sent back to the youth teams. The fact Hoedt didn't get a run out probably implies he isn't in Ralph's plans as he has already made his mind up. FF and Mccarthy probably still have a chance to compete for the back up role therefore having both of them start was the obvious option.

  12. Our Ops Director, a Hull fan, mentioned we are still favourites to sign Jarrod Bowen. I suggested that with Adams, Ings, Djenepo and Redmond, we wouldn't have space.

However, link from the Hull paper over the weekend is posted for you to assess.

    https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/southampton-odds-jarrod-bowen-signing-3065082

Call me super negative but I think djenepo may be more a one for the future who comes on as a sub. He has been dropped to the bench in a pretty low quality Mali side. I don't think he's a bad signing but I don't see him starting straight away. I think a front 4222 with bowen redmond ings and Adams could be very exciting, with JWP Armstrong and djenepo competing for places.

  13. Probably wants a new start professionally as well as personally due to the break up. Don't blame him to be honest, a fresh start is often good to get life back on track. Also the problem is as a box to box midfielder he is too good to be on the bench for a mid table prem side but also isn't as good as Hoj or jwp. Owing to this, best for all parties would be to sell and replace with a pure DM destroyer to challenge Romeu and play next to Hoj/JWP

  14. My earlier post regarding Forster was entirely justified and I stand by it.

You make think I’m a bellend or whatever but when I see people in companies in France going through the motions because they have job security and no motivation whatsoever in their job, I understand why companies try the dirtiest tricks by the book to try and move them on.

In life you want people with ambition who try and set themselves goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them, that s what I would look for if I was recruiting someone.

I myself go and see a psychologist because I wanna improve confidence in myself and try to be better in every aspect of life.

So in a way I do have mental issues, but do I sit around and keep myself in a cushty job where pay allows me to live confortably? No

I’m starting a new job in September with similar pay, a hard one which may give me loads of sleepless nights because of the pressure, do I back down from a challenge? No because I have the ambition of reaching my goals in life even though I know my mind might not allow me to but at least I wanna try because by doing thisjob it will open a lot of doors for me.

In Forster’s case, if reports are correct about mental issues, well if moving somewhere else makes him a nervous wreck, at least try, knowing that if he succeeds then his career is back on track. Because sitting at Saints and doing nothing but train all year is going to do nothing for his career. His fat bank account might get fatter but that s it.

And if I was an employer and saw somebody doing nothing at work, not wanting to take on new projects, I would seriously question the value of that person for my company. In england job security is non existent compared to contracts in football or job security in France so people have to perform.

But when you have someone not contributing, with the highest pay at the club, mental issue or not, I would try all the tricks to make him move on.

What impression does that give to the other players who perform but are paid less ? Not great for the atmosphere.

There is encouraging a man to move because he is not contributing or harming the "atmosphere", which is fine, maybe pay him off or something, and then there is bullying and "making his life a living hell". No one is arguing its a good situation, the reason we all think you are a first class w@nker is because you think that the situation warrants tormenting a mentally ill man. What if he killed himself? You be the guy to look his family in the eye and say "sorry guys, but he was earning a lot of money from a team I like and making the other players a bit sad". A mans life, happiness, and well-being come before football, it's just a game. Sort your priorities out.

  15. Back on topic, I see Adam Blackmore has tweeted that the next priorities are CB, RB/RWB (I think but it could have just been full-back) and possibly a number 10. The number 10 seems unlikely to me but would provide a few options. Anyone got any ideas who might fit the bill?

Oh, and apparently we're still the bookies favourite to sign Bowen from Hull - again I'm not sure we will given he's predominantly a winger. He's in the last year of his contract and fits the age profile (although not exactly pacy). Personally think he's a great player whenever I've seen him play. Price-wise Cardiff offered 12M for him in January so you'd think that would be around the right price to get him if we are interested.

I think Augustin can play as a second striker /10, maybe we are still in for him. I haven't seen him linked to anyone else in weeks.

  16. Make his life a living hell, tell him he is not welcome to the club anymore, leak stories to the media about him ready to sit out his contract and do nothing. That will turn fans against him, making him a hated figure on social media and in the street when he goes.

That s how you go about things to force somebody out.

The guy is the highest paid player at the club, does **** all, probably realizes he does’t have the level to compete in the PL anymore.

If you have some self esteem, even if you are paid less to go somewhere else, you will still go to proove yourself or other people that you can still play at a certain level.

Jesus, you sound like a horrendous person. We know he has mental health problems and you want us to bully him and make him feel isolated and hated just to free a bit of space on a wage bill. It makes me upset people like you exist.

  17. Whilst I love RB I'm inclined to agree england is not a feasible goal. We should be bringing through younger players and Chilwell is too good not to start.

  18. Tottenham sign Ndombele from Lyon. Does that make Big Vic available (albeit not falling within our under 24s only profile)?
Spoke to my spurs supporting mate about this, he says we don't want him. Apparently his injuries are so bad he is considering retirement and is playing in constant pain. Has been criticised a lot at afcon too. Shame because he was a great player when fit.

  19. Gunn

    Valery - Bednarek - NEW - Bertrand

    Hojbjerg - NEW

    Redmond - Djenepo

    Ings - Adams

Don’t personally rate Ings but this would be an alright looking team to start the season with. Need a proper DM next to PEH though.

I think its more likely Redmond starts in the front two.

Personally I think we go with

    Gunn

    Valery Bednarek NEW Bertrand

    Hoj Romeu

    JWP Djenepo/Boufal

    Adams Redmond

Don't know why everyone is so keen to drop JWP he has been excellent this season.

    Another option is

    Gunn

    Valery Bednarek NEW Bertrand

    Lemina Romeu Hoj

    JWP Adams Redmond
