A newsflash for the budding Marxist shop stewards out there. Companies are not democracies and they are only accountable to the lawmakers and their shareholders. You want a vote, buy some shares. Buy a season ticket and you have to abide by the T & C's...
there are no shares?
-
Exactly.
As long as we win, play well. Are not being ripped off, can get a decent pie/beer at half time, go to Wembley now and then who gives a **** what the chairmans personality is like?
what if he starts burying agitators under the pitch like pinochet?
-
I know what, lets form a Trust so we can have a say in how the club is run, if we buy enough shares......
...................oh.

yes..nice over there..I run to and from there when it is nice...trouble is, the bridge would wind me up...but then, it is cornwall..
torpoint is also over the water but that is basically one big marriage patch for the navy and serves the training base HMS Raleigh...stay away unless you are a naval family or inbred..
as said, generally, plymouth is a bit of a dump...thousands of (mostly) Navy and Marines in the city of about 250k. some of the locals are very odd and generally stupid...not the best for shopping...howver, there is much more to do than exeter, it is a cracking night out (much better than southampton) and you are right on the border with cornwall which is a fantastic part of the world...it is about 3 hour drive to southampton...
I would also point out that although areas of plymouth are ugly, a walk through the Barbican and along the Hoe waterfront is much more beautiful than anything Portsmouth, Southampton and even Exeter have to offer

What would be the purpose of placing "restrictions", whatever they may be, on landlord ownership? The buy to let market has been shocking for the last 2 years and anyone trying to buy a property with a view to a short term let to make some cash is in for a suprise, not least because very few lenders will give the average punter a mortgage for a b-t-l now as it is. No-one is fighting over becoming a landlord at the moment, the only way to get cheap property is through the auctions, for which you really need ready cash at your disposal.
There is a shortage of affordable housing for first time buyers and the rental market and this is something the Housing Associations were addressing, but their funding has been cut and their output will diminish quite a bit in about 2 years time, so I don't expect the situation to get better anytime soon.
restrictions - see previous posts
Maybe there should have been restrictions 10 years ago... I dunno
Whats an HMO?

But could we greet him like this?
Would they have greeted him like that if they knew he was going to score 4 in 24 games?

So you reckon I am the only one on here who leaves out "imo", "I think", "I believe", etc., do you ?
Sorry, it rings hollow.
The reason for me being singled out is that I refuse to pretend everything is peachy, that there is a realistic "usual Saints outcome" to everything, and because I wont unequivocally gush at the feet of that altar-of-worship-personified, Alan Pardew.
I think he is a good manager that could get us promoted, but I have concerns about how he goes about some things. Its not the "guns blazing" approach that I wanted to see in our first Lowe-free excuse-free season. I dont see anything wrong with my attitude at all.
Back to Vassell. I think that he could get a CCC spot at least, and can command more wages than I think we would pay, so I dont think he will come here.
you are really back on form at the moment, lol
As for Vassell - I say past it.

who dat?

Stanley is right though. You cant import 800,000 people at the same time as house building levels are at a record low and not expect it to create shortages and drive prices up. Housing in the UK is far too expensive and mostly **** poor quality. If house prices fell slowly or stagnated for thirty years that would be a damn fine thing imo - and the only ways to do that is to reduce the population or increase house building dramatically.
or stop people fighting over becoming buy to let landlords by placing restrictions...
of course if our economy plummets and with the planned cuts, we will have no immigrants and fewer students, so property prices and rents may plummet i guess? negative equity anyone?

My thread earlier highlighted the point that Southampton is the most expensive city in the UK in which to rent versus average wages.
http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?24012-Southampton-most-expensive-city-to-rent
The author thinks its because of demand caused by about 40,000 students
Id add another 10,000+ Polish
So the problem is much more from students than immigration?
Either way the biggest problem is the greedy poperty developers/buy to let army who have battled to own as many houses as possible thus pushing up prices.
Friend of a friend owns about 100 houses. How can that be right when most local young families cant get on the ladder? No wonder Southampton has one of the largest waiting lists for Council Housing.
I think individuals/companies should have a strict limit on how many properties they can own. Perhaps three max - one for main residence, one for investment, one for holiday.

My pension is in the private sector.
40/60ths. Final Salary (average final 12 months) option to go at 60. Non contributory. Added 5 years service if redundancy (incl voluntary) after 50. Also if I die wife gets 2/3rds of my pension.
Not suprisingly I took voluntary redundancy at 51 after 33.5 years service. 5 years added. so 38.5/60ths. No further reduction for fact I was getting it from 51.
Since I went in Dec 2003 the firm have started to take contributions from salary of 5%, then did away with 5 year added service, then Government extended earliest it could be taken to 55 and now they are closing the scheme to existing members.
How lucky I was to get an opportunity to go when I did. Don't need to work again.
I dont know, all this public sector gravy train, they should be more like the private sector....oh.
