We are living with them. Just. Pretty high praise when you look at their attacking options.

Press the Clock icon.

Ok with it now, but definitely a backward step.

Around 10/20 successful FBI cases are entrapment. "Hey wow, we've just caught a terrorist (that we radicalised and encouraged)" Got to keep those budget levels up.

Thought you would like that. For me, it is one of the most thoughtful expressions I've seen on the issue.

This conversation just happened:- "Mum!! I'm getting offered out by Jamie on SaintsWeb. Jamie! The one who used to post as thedelldays, now posts as Batman and pretended to be called Brett. The one everyone thinks is a chef, like Steven Seagal in Under Siege, only gingerer. Spends all his time forming incomplete sentences and provoking people. He says there will be consequences if I provoke him back some more." "No I don't know if he means fisticuffs. I don't even think he knows what he's saying half the fúcking time. It's very confusing for the rest of us. What should I do? He might have a utility belt now!" Jamie, on the advice of my mum I have been instructed to apologise for my pinpoint píss-taking. Sorry for the pinpoint píss-taking. I trust that this transcript shows what a big wuss I am, phoning my mum, etc. Check my shame.

If you stop trying to limit my freedom of expression, you shall have a treat

Hypo, you have Muslim friends and associates. Would you ever dream of depicting Mohammed in a way that you knew they would find offensive in order to show it to them? If so, would your justification be that it was vital that the depiction existed? There are all kinds of ways one can use freedom of expression to be critical of Islam. You do not have to go for the holiest of holies, repeatedly. I agree with Smirking. It was ill-advised and in my view, ostentatiously provocative. The French knew this too, which is presumably why they had police bodyguards assigned to them.

How do you think other exclusives are found? Bunch of journalists under a starting pistol that sprint to the story? Exclusives are all about information changing hands. Cahoots are part of the landscape. I'm not a supporter of the BBC at the mo. I don't think it helps.
-
I understand "scoop" to mean "exclusive" in the journalistic context. Which outlet broke this story first?
-
Yes, the BBC could have gone lower. They could have spent licence payers' cash flying a team out to extradition-free Barbados to door-step Cliff at his residence there. They did not do that. Be thankful.

Private sector management in the NHS is more efficient and effective.

I worked for Ordnance Survey. Job satisfaction wise, was brilliant. Hasn't really been bettered. Seeing stuff you've worked on out in the wild in map form, doing interesting things with vast sets of geographical data, maps and did I mention maps? Everyone who works at OS gets geeky about maps. It's the law. Anyway, all the pay grades were tied to the civil service structure, so you didn't even have to go contracting to get a big rise. A market-rate gig in the private sector was a bump for nearly everyone that left. A lot of people left. Some, including myself, even came back as contractors for certain projects. I still love the OS now, but I can't help feeling that if the government were realistic about salary levels they would avoid the huge and volatile costs of the temporary labour market across all its institutions. As I heard a GM remark on signing yet another six month contract for an already long-term contractor, "who are we kidding?". -

Same for all contractors. The deal is supposed to be that you swap job security for a higher rate of pay. However, in many industries, my own included, shortages can be so acute that the job security part is never really threatened. The other thing is the theoretical headcount trick that accountants like to play. They're like:- "Hey wow. Our permanent headcount is really low. Check out our low wage bill!" "What about all them contractors? They cost loads." "Them? Oh we can get rid of them tomorrow if we want to." They rarely want to. As you say, a scandal. -
Your posts remind me of the time my dog tried to play Trivial Pursuit. She was diverting, knocking the game board about, etc. She still ended up six slices short of a pie when all was said and done, though.

I suspect Batman was being sarcastic, but I'm glad you've riffed on this. Again, I don't condone what has happened, but you'd have to be thick to not understand why this has happened. Charlie Hebdo was engaging in button pushing of the highest order, and after reading about Siné being fired for suggesting that Sarkozy's son would profit from marrying a Jewish heiress, I think that the notion that Charlie Hebdo was fearlessly and indiscriminately bristling at every taboo is a load of crap. Siné was fired from Charlie Hebdo for his cartoon and faced charges in France. To re-iterate, no condonement - but at the same time - the issue cannot be framed as the inflexibility of Islam vs The West's boundless capacity for free speech on any subject, ever. The latter does not exist.

It's merely an observation of your posting style, provided through the medium of outmoded cartoons. I dunno if you remember the Godzilla cartoon, but every week some huge monster would turn up, cause a bit of hassle. Eventually Godzilla (Bletchzilla) would rise from the depths and sort it all out. Now, I'm sure that if you track down and watch the episode in question you'll determine what exactly is going on, but you'll only get the Godzilla version. This is Bletchzilla, different timeline and universe, so.... .... I'd imagine this particular pose is more akin to a WWE "sleeper hold". Bletchzilla is gently trying to put his foe down, using non-lethal means. Sleep, Soursaurus, sleep. Pervert.

Ta. Speaking for myself, I work from 8am to around 10pm each day. It is not a solid 14 hours, but my American clients love that I'm always available.

Guess which one you are.
