Johannes Spors (and many other Southampton backroom staff) follow me on Twitter, so perhaps my football opinions aren't as daft as you think!

Much like here, Twitter isn't the real world, ergo it doesn't really matter what people think of you on there... ;)

I actually don’t think it’s that so much. I’ve no idea how he’ll fit but I don’t think you push out a captain if you’re a new manager unless there is a real cause to do so, and not being quite good enough isn’t that.

    Yeah, good point 👍

I think completely unreasonable to position a manager that we've appointed before the season is out as a "second choice". If this was the end of July, after we had been pursuing other targets, maybe. But not now.

    Fair point 👍

(as I say, I'm just reading between the lines, which means there's every likelihood that my hypothesis is incorrect... which won't be the first time! :) )

Can’t see Stephens going anywhere this summer and anyone expecting so should probably start preparing for that eventuality now.

Was just about to post that my hunch is that Stephens is a Will Still kinda player (heart on sleeve etc). So, yep, I'd be surprised if Stephens goes...

Genuine question - do we know that Still was the second choice?

No, I don't think we do know... I'm just reading between the lines.

    Interesting comment on Rohl here:

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl was previously linked with the Saints job, but the compensation package to move to a club within the same division was thought to be too expensive.

i think he also wants a top league job as quoted elsewhere but interesting if we did chose Still due to compensation values.

If I was a cynic, I'd now be banging on about how we've gone for the cheaper option rather than holding out for our first choice. But, as I'm first and foremost a pragmatist, on balance I think I'd prefer getting our second choice onboard in a timely manner versus a protracted negotiation for our first choice. So count me into the Will Still optimist club.

The post you've quoted was more of an opinion of why we chose Still over Rohl - I believe that the compensation required for Rohl (amount and complexity) was a factor.

I quoted the other post because that's when I found out we had offered the job to Still.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully I can add more snippets of information when I get it 😉

Cheers sir. We have been a tad light on genuine ITKers over the last few years so any genuine insights are of course welcome :) 👍

P.s. if you can let us know which prolific striker we're going to sign before we do so then your place in the Saintsweb ITK hall of fame is all but guaranteed ;)

Some may be hard to shift. Even if they have 40% wage reductions from PL level wages like we had last relegation, their wages will still be big for any club that would want them.

Would loaning them out and subsidising their wages be an option?

  9. Can I have 5th November and Fabrice29 in the "well there's a surprise - he's not as good as Martin, is he?" sweepstake? ;)

I hope we don't focus on players for set styles, let's just buy 'good players' with some physicality about them. Put them together on the pitch in their natural positions and things will happen.

I'm bored with signing project players tbh.

    Here is your answer @trousers

I'm not bothered by people on this forum finding me annoying. Even those on here that I find annoying. It has no impact on my life outside this forum.

Thanks for confirming my hunch that you're probably not an 'annoying twat' in real life... ;)

Heard in the week that we’ve been having a close look at Patterson the Sunderland keeper as a possible replacement for Ramsdale. On today’s showing in the play off final, assuming Sunderland get beat, I hope that is the case.

Think we can forget that now.

Might that depend on whether Sunderland see him as a Premier League level keeper or not? In theory, them going up could make it more likely we'll sign him, rather than less... (McCarthy is a decent championship keeper, but not really good enough for the PL, for example)

(Caveat: I've no idea how good he is so I could be talking bollocks, just for a change :) )

The way he worded it while it's not a direct question like “Is that really a great accomplishment?”, it functions as one by implying doubt.

Please promise me you'll never stop making me chuckle MLG :)
