  1. And if he continues to break the rules? This is his second ban remember.

With all due respect Hypo - I can't be assed to reply, but see jawillwills post 334 - I think it probably sums it up.

Edit: Oh right - you already have. Guess that didn't work either.... sigh.

  2. Didn't he score the first ever Saints goal at St Mary's too, in the Espanyol game?

Nahh - Kevin Davies did, Uwe got the 2nd and the 3rd...!

Edit: Actually technically speaking Davies got the 5th and Rosler the 6th and 7th - we were 4 nil down at that point.... ffs...!!

  3.

I'd suggest a poll on whether Deppo's ban is warranted or draconian, but I fear it might well just be locked very quickly.

It is both. He broke the rules - a ban is warranted, simple. Life ban - draconian - it's an internet message board ffs.

Ban him til the start of the season and get him back on here - this board needs Deppo(s).

  4. Guy, over fifty, love music, bought up on (influenced by), Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Manfred Mann, Slade, ELO, Clapton, Sabbath, Floyd, Eagles. Basic perception of todays music is that it generally sux. Have no time for the so called 'talent' that is X Factor or BGT. Women who take their clothes off or exploit their sexuality in order to sell music p i s s me off. If you can sing, sing. If I wanted to see a naked lady I would've visited a strip joint. Where are all the Alison Moyets / Lisa Stansfields of the female music scene?

Me and music, intermediate guitar player - Yamaha FG730S acoustic, Epiphone Les Paul Custom Plus and Squire Fender Telecaster (signed by Gordon Haskell (google him if you don't know)), Marshall MG30 DFX practice amp with Digitech GNX 3 guitar processer.

There's lots of crap about today musically, but it was the same in my day as well (Boney fukin M...!). Gotta say though - really love James Morrison, took his music to the streets and did it the hard way. Voice to absolutely die for - real class, seems a top bloke as well.

Thats my 10p's worth in a nutshell - could chew the fat all day about music - but the subject is just so vast, got to do some work today!

  5. Dear Lord how to these people manage to even type?

106.At 13:20 8th Jun 2011, The _Real_Truth wrote: southampton built a new stadium on the back of them going into administration and are again doing into debt. At the current rate it will only be a matter of time before they do the same again.

He is right though, apparently it is only a matter of time before we build (yet another) new stadum... ;)

  6. Deppo.

Just recently Deppo has p i s sed me off a little – so I just scrolled on past. Saw his avatar coming a mile off and just ignored it. Who knows though, perhaps that is just me – grumpy old man, wrong side of fifty just wanting to read the important bits.

In the past, said poster, has made me raise a wry smile, smirk, chuckle, laugh out loud, bellow, and choke on my carrot cake. (T w a t). Deppos input is rarely safe – personally I think he knows it and does weigh it up before posting – sometimes perhaps he gets it wrong, but that is what makes him interesting. He is the guy that tries to make light of the situation, normally with a ‘throw away’ – problem is, some take it far too seriously.

I should also point out as well – that although many of his posts were loaded with sarcasm, many also carried a very valid (if sometimes alternative) viewpoint, perhaps for some this was just a little too subtle.

I have no doubt that he p i s sed a few off, as I said, I had tired of him recently – but there is absolutely no way I would have kicked him out. I know that the £5.0 subscription fee is knack all in real terms, but Deppo is worth at least a quid of that annual subscription. When you consider all the other posters and services provided by this forum – what I’m saying is that Deppo is (was) ‘Box Office’.

I’m pretty sure that I would have gone back to reading, enjoying and laughing at Deppo – I always thought that he could say an awful lot with not many words – quite clever really.

As to the policing of the forum, that’s up to the guys that run this site. There is no way I would say a bad word about them, they do a great job and we are the benefactors of their efforts. That said – they have got this (badly, in my opinion) wrong.

Why anybody would be intimidated enough to make any sort of serious complaint against a poster for the general input that is contained on most threads is beyond me. Why would you get so wound up about it – scroll on by. I recently left neutral feedback for an Ebay seller and he threatened to sue me for libel. It left me feeling intimidated for a while, but I laughed and moved on – not heard from him since.

And so Deppo is banned, banned for life, never, ever to return – and who is the loser here. I am, and all those others here who support him. I come to read certain threads, certain opinion, and yes, certain sarcasm too. I come to be entertained by the ‘crowd’ that is in tonight – hopefully Deppo, Turkish, Benjii, TDD and the rest of the crowd will be there. Because if they are there, then the forum experience will be interesting, appealing, aggressive, dangerous and worthwhile.

At the risk of offending anyone – I will sign off with what I believe could've been a Deppoism.

Murderers and rapists don’t get locked up for life – why should Deppo?

  7. I think we'd prefer the 'long term project' scenario just for a few months at least :?

The Twitter thing is a wierd one. Either they're just playing it softly softly or maybe they're going to be very, very private for whatever reason, or they don't want to raise expectations too highly? Dunno, all I know is that I just want some stability of ownership and I'm not holding my breath on that count.

    6 points? That's just greedy :D

To be honest, long term is the only way to build and sustain a football club these days unless of course you get the sugar daddy of all daddies...! Look at Manure, they didn't become great over night - took a lot of time and investment, remember 'boring, boring Arsenal', never thought I'd enjoy watching them...!

Problem is though - that everybody wants success right now. It all depends how long an owner is willing to wait and how much they are willing to 'invest' - we have 3 years to get to the premiership - will be interesting to see what happens if we don't make it.

But at least our 5 year plan has some realism about it, will your new owners have similar expectations, or will they want it now?

As for the 6 points - thats not greed - that's just realistic. ;)

  8. Genuinely don't know whether to feel happy or not. My first reaction when I heard it was a couple of Ruskies was "Oh no, not again" bearing in mind Russia's wild west type business community. The only crumb of comfort is that they appear to have interests in a number of sports businesses around the world. But whether they're legit or not, no idea. I'd rather we had a UK owner, but at the same time we're lucky to still exist at all, so beggars can't be choosers.

As far as investment goes, I think it'll be tight. They've already said they're looking to run it as a business, so I don't think they're going to be throwing millions Steve Cotterills way. Suspect it'll be more loans and freebies and a long struggle next season.

In all fairness, you're some way ahead of us now having got the stadium in place. Long term we'd have been better off rebuilding FP really instead of signing a load of players on big wages we could only afford with Gaydamak's input.....

Just googled Antonav's name, and he is described as a business genius (only young as well, 35ish???) in one article and a money launderer in another (although it also states that he was cleared of the latter accusations) - so you'll probably find it's somewhere in between I guess. Most successful business people probably have a few skelatons here and there - so could go either way.

As for personal wealth, one article quoted 200m which is hardly mind blowing in football terms, but better than an owner who wants to keep his wallet firmly in his pocket. I think that you had better hope that he sees this as a long term project, because with your current infrastructure it is very difficult to see how the business is going to show a profit, either short or medium term.

Strange quote on twitter saying that the new owners would not be making any announcement for a couple of weeks yet - perhaps they are looking to make sweeping changes to the management, staff and ground. Either way, whatever happens, I would just like to thank you for the 6 points.

  9. I think you should look back through this thread. To quote an old Red Dwarf line, according to most on here we were going to be "deader than Corduroy".

Didn't happen did it? A 9 point deduction and relegation from the Premier league and er, that's it. All the wild, wild predictions of the death of Pompey and half of evil Portsea island ending up in jail were just pipe dreams driven by utter hatred.

What happened to us goes on in professional football all the time- the most we can all do is try to learn the lessons so that it doesn't happen again.

The longer you all persist in the fleeting belief that divine retribution is still just moments away, the harder you'll find it to move on when reality finally dawns.

The trouble is you've all whipped each other up into such a frenzy of jealous outrage that many of you now can't let go.

You'd be better off inviting us for a beer when we play each other next season, rather than wishing we were dead. You might then realise that we're just as human as you with the same day to day worries and pressures and that the only difference is that we support different football teams.

    Or am I being naive?

Have to say that I agree with some of the points you raise, a couple of serious questions for you:

Are you now happy with your new owners, do you know anything of their background?

What level of investment, if any, do you think they will be bringing to the club?

    Thanks.

  10. That's the third time they have been taken over in this thread and it still provides much hilarity. Trust me on this, there is still some humour to be had.

I think you are missing the point - we can sit here and take the **** all we want, but come next season if we don't have the bragging rights it will mean nothing. Real rivalry is played out by the players on the pitch not by a bunch of chest beating cyborwarriers on a message board.

  11. I know loads of **** (or at least I pretend I do). About everything.

I won't tell you though becuase I am an insufferable onanist and really love whacking off over replies on here.

Fifty fukin three, and I had to google that - geeze what a fukin' sheltered life I've led...!

  12. Lighten up, its the pompey takeover thread.

Indeed it is, and today pompey have been taken over, so perhaps it's now time to draw this to a close.

There has been much posturing and urine extracting here - much of it, total bullshyte. Come next season we are back on par with them and the only pleasure I want is in the shape of 6 points.

Like it or not, PFC are here to stay - they've been taken over - let's move on and let the real rivalry begin.

  13. Personally I dont find him funny, but neither is Little Britain or Jo Brand (in my opinion). I like Larry David, yet my Mrs thinks he's terrible. So comedy is all a matter of opinion.

So what if he took the **** out of a certain area, had he said Portsmouth I'm sure that would have been ok.

There is a comedian around the pubs in Poole, Sidney Harbour whose whole act is taking the ****, particulary out of Turlin Moor ( a housing estate in Poole), I know the guy and off stage he's a really nice fella. He doesn't believe the things he says, it's just an act.

I'm sure Osman is the same. Until you meet him and get to know him, you cant really make personal comments about him, just judge his act (because that's all it is).

Saved me the time - couldn't have put it better myself.

  14. Ahhhhh Gibraltar - my company asked me to go there a couple of years ago on business, never been before, so was really looking forward to it. Was recommended a hotel by a 'friend/work colleague', took one look at the feedback it was getting and sort of changed my mind. This is recent and was typically what people were saying a couple of year ago:

"Gibraltar as a whole has a fatigued, dated ambiance. It feels like its slightly apologetic for its existence -- and for the grimly commercial Main Street, which could be Shopping Mall Anytown. The Bristol Hotel exemplifies everything that has been left to go to seed in Gib. The room styles are 1950s Margate, the beds hard and lumpy and tobacco smells linger. And the breakfasts -- even a 1950s seaside landlady would be ashamed. Sliced white bread, processed cheese, processed ham, instant coffee, reconstituted orange juice, stodgy rolls, cold hard boiled eggs, cheapo packaged jam, marmalade and butter. And the service -- perfunctory at best, downright rude at worst."

    And there's more....

"Gibraltar in general is not a place I would ever visit again. For an island it seems singularly lacking in sea. It is virtually invisible from any part of the main town. There are no pretty areas to sit in - even the Botanic gardens are disappointing. The traffic is horrendous. You may as well book a room in the middle of Brands Hatch on race day. It just goes on and on day and night. Noisy, smelly and dirty. Everything apart from booze and cigarettes is far more expensive than the uk. Over £10 for a very indifferent omelette and a cup of instant coffee. Benidorm would seem like the height of luxury compared to this. Take my tip - stay at home and save your money. I wish I had!"

Suffice to say, I made my excuses and got the company to send somebody else...! Not one that I will be trying to experience anytime soon either.

  15. Jones got sacked for getting Cardiff close to promotion but not winning the play-offs, so logically, whoever Cardiff appoint as manager should expect to be sacked next year if the team does not win promotion. All or nothing, so how attractive does that make the job?

Absolutely, except of course you have used the word 'logically' with a football related issue - are you mad? ;)
