  1. Sorry the role of forum singer has already been taken by Ben Goddards. Thanks anyway.
  2. Exactly Turkish, the whole 'wet fanny' thing stems from people's own sense of self-importance. As a culture few are as self important as the Americans. It is no coincidence that the list of banned words over there is as long as your arm. This country is going the same way. Have you noticed it is no longer man of the match, it is player of the match or person of the match (even on football manager). Harringay changing it's name to Haringey, changing the colours of the bins inislington from black to green (?) so as not to cause offence. Lollypop people, referee assistants not lines men or even people. In america it is even frowned on by some to say waitress or waiter, you should use the term server and never ever ever say housewife!
  3. The funny thing is, I don't think we differ too much in our opinions if we both agree with Kraken.
  4. Shhhhhh Adrian, Egg is a busy man you know. This discussion is over, he said so.
  5. To me it does not matter that it is hypo or not, the user is not the point, the situation is. I am pretty much against political correctness when used to the extreme or to suit an agenda i.e. the 'mong' discussion on the main board. How can someone who uses the term nutter, loon or crazy be so offended with the term mong so as to want others who do use it to be punished? Why should they decide what is offensive and what it not? To be honest, the hypo thing has annoyed me and other than on pm with bear, I have bitten my tongue. At the risk of being banned myself, this is how I saw it. Road saint posted a stupid thread with a very obvious answer. He got ripped for it, he started to argue with those that ripped him, then out of nowhere pulled out some sad news. Now the news was sad but it had nothing to do with the topic at hand, therefore it why was it brought up? To me it looked like an Xfactor style - be nice to me, I have had it hard. Hypo was clumsy, nothing more. His point was, if you have had such a terrible time, why are you posting about it on a discussion about the saints manager? However, he was clumsy and put it badly. The mob cried in fury, "how could someone be so insensitive" the mod warned him, he tried to justify his comment but poorly, he apologised, however was banned. I don't have any special loyalty to hypo or agree with what he said, just think he was set up for a fall and was too dumb to react properly. I am glad his ban is not permanent. For the record, I have never tossed off bearsy, this is a hideous untruth. My monkey did it and it was all above board.
  6. Fair enough but he did apologise as well before the banning. I don't believe it was a dune like comment, just clumsy. There was no need for the subject to be raised, it had nothing to do with the topic/argument and was used as a defence mechanism. It's not xfactor. Hypo was clumsy and set up for a fall. "here is sensitive subject nothing to do with what we are arguing about, watch what you say about it or you will be in trouble".
  7. That may be so Steve but I will be in Japan when this game is on and live close to Fulham. A mid week game sometime in spring would suit me much better.
  8. Would you be kind enough to let us know what he was banned for? Is being insensitive to a sensitive subject a banning offence? The way I see it, if the subject was too raw to be spoken about, it should not have been raised. Otherwise it is a minefield. Not agreeing with how hypo made his point but don't think he should have been banned for it. Also, if you thought it was a banning offence, why was he not banned straight away? He was banned after the fury of the crowd. Like a ref getting out a yellow card only for the old trafford crowd to shout 'off off off' and then change it to red.
  9. Today's what?
  10. Yeah nice try dig dog, has bear paid you to get me banned? Let's just say the joke involved the small paralympic medal winning swimmer, snow white and 6 dwarfs. Now that was out of order.
  11. Nail on the head mate! (this is in no way an insult to people who have been injured on building sites, just means I think he got his point right on the mark).
  12. Exactly my point. I don't use the word/words very much other than when talking to or quoting Turkish. However, I am against the word police and the ever tightening line of political correctness. BTW - anyone see Mitch Le tissier's joke on twitter the other day? If you want to talk about offensive, start there and work your way to the other words.
  13. "We have the funding to succeed, providing we continue to convert pledges" So, after the main load of pledges have been converted, 'we' don't have enough funding. However, if 'we' continue to get people to donate thousands again and again, there will be enough funding..... right....
  14. Egg, why don't you answer the question re: nutter/looney etc? Do we really need to start another thread about these words? Seems like a get out to me. These words are possibly offensive to some, derive from mental health problems but you still use them. Why? Also, what's all this about vocal minority? This is a discussion not an election. I was putting my point across to input to the discussion. There has not been a poll or an election as far as I am aware and at no point was I campaigning. Also, the strategy of saying the mods are not doing those job for letting the discussion run is pretty pathetic. If the mods fall for this and close the discussion, I despair. Move it to the lounge but don't close it.
  15. What about the other words, mental, loon, crazy etc? Do they not have similar origins and are therefore insulting? I don't see how one word about a mental problem can be socially acceptable for one group but the same group get offended by another word with a very similar meaning/background. People need to look at the malice in which the word was delivered and how the user meant it. If I call Bearsy a dumb idiot, I'm joking, if I am chanting it and pointing at kids leaving a school for the deaf, it is completely different.
  16. Exactly! Because I don't mind the above doesn't make it right. Same as a nutter, pyscho, mental, bed wetter, ******, whatever.
  17. He may have loved it but someone with a real psycho in the family would have found it really offensive. At the turn of the last centuary and beyond, thousands of people were left to rot and die in 'looney bins' however people still call others loons and neither party minds. As I said, I can see the point but words are just words and meanings do change - I.e - you nutter. I think self policing would be better, a please don't use that In that way. If the mods start banning words, the line will move and continue to move until we all become politically correct. If I can't call Turkish a baldy, I'm out.
  18. Did you ever chant psycho at a match or call someone a nutter or say they are mental or crazy?
  19. In all seriousness, I can see the ops point, however this in not America (thankfully) and we are not super sensative. The reason I would be against banning any word, is that they are just words and the meaning of words change in the modern venacular than in cleopatra times (tm Bearsy 2012) and if you ban one word, where do you draw the line? Let's say to start with you can no longer say: Spaz Mong Retard Dumb Looney Mental psycho Nutter Because they all have origins in mental health problems. Then what next? No sexuality based names? No bastards as it doubts people parentage? Soon bed setters will be banned as it brings back bad memories for Turkish. Before you know It, you'll be saying follically challenged instead of bald, someone will say Clyne is short and be infracted for not saying vertically challenged. That is not a world I want to live in, let's leave that to the yanks.
  20. Up there like a rat up a drain pipe.
  21. Wait... Gay mean happy right? Not in a kind of, I live in the philippines and bum ladyboys type way? I meant happy, my monkey is happy.
  22. Yeah after the world ends, very convenient, pussy!
  23. The only thing gay about me is my monkey.
  24. Or a gay monkey?
  25. I've seen people use the term 'wet fanny' on here wen describing alps or some other posters. Now wet fanny doesn't sound nice to me, not at all.
