The point was that and this goes for 'cover' for Lallana as well is that signing players as good or better than we have in these positions are likely going to have to come from the CCC, how easy is it going to be to persuade a player of the quality we need to not only drop down a league but also not be guarenteed a start? I want players that are here because they want to play for Southampton FC and want to be part of the project and are here the the long haul, not because we offered them an extra couple of grand a week. I would question the motives of any player who turned down a move to a club that is in a better position than us. By that i dont mean in the CCC, but like Bailey, who chose Middlesborough over us as it is quite obvious he has a better chance of premier league football quicker with them than us.

LGTC, Boro are to the CCC what we are to L1, favourites to go up. Bailey is 26, next year he could and will be playing premier league football assuming everything goes to plan for boro. If he joined us he would have to wait a MINIMUM of 2 years for PL football, Realsitically he has 4 years left at the top of his game so will want to play at as a high a level possible. Any player worth their salt would chose them over us otherwise the only reason they would have come here is for the money, thats assuming your theory that we offer everyone stupid money to come here. It would be different if Bailey was 20 and had his career ahead of him, but he is half way through it already. It is nothing to do with how much the chairman is worth, wage demands, it is simply the fact that at the moment CCC favourites Middlesborough are a more attractive proposition to join the L1 Southampton and the same goes for any player in his position, people need to get realistic.

Of course it does. You can never have to strong a squad, too good a team, always be looking to improve. But the panic on here because he haven't signed players of the standard we think we should have in the positions we think we need yet is ridiculous. Middlesbrough are one of the favourites to go up, Bailey could be playing PL football in a year, with us he'd have to wait two years absolute minimum, he is 26 now, probably only got another 4 years left at the very top of his game, if i were him i know where i would go. I absolutely agree but all people bang on about is 'cover' and that is the point, finding a player better or as good as Hammond and MS, both IMO capable of and have played at a higher level, to drop down a league is not going to be easy. People seem to think players are queuing up to get here, but we failed with bids for Danns & Bailey, people need a dose of reality, we are league one club a big league one club with bit of cash yes, but top quality players are not falling over themselves to join us, so improving on what we have is not going to be as easy as it is on CM10.

I am not saying he is not a good player, he is class at this level but do you really think it is going to be easy to pesuade a player of a similar ability to come here and not be guarenteed a start? He a CCC standard player at the moment, what CCC player would not only drop down a league but then also not be told they are even guarenteed to be one of th first names on the team sheet?

You started panicking the day the window opened.

You said he is figuring regularly and scored four or five goals and was consistantly delivering at a higher level, when in fact he has scored two goals, one of which was against a reserve team back four, which we know for a fact it was as it was our reserve team back four! That is not consistantly delivering at a higher level however you dress it up. As for my analogy of MLT v Puncheon of course they are worlds apart in terms of ability one is a League one player (that is where we are dont forget) and one was one of the best players this country has every produced. My point being that Puncheon has that same type of ability, albeit at a much lower level and he has proved this in the past, i think it was the Charlton game where he was crap yet he set up the goal out of nothing and we won 1-0. I think you need a player in the side who is a little bit different and offers that, even if you sometimes they are a 5/10, other times they will be a 9/10,

We dont have a gaping hole in our midfield, we have two very good central midfield players, with an average league one player as cover and a right back in Butterfield who can fill in there as need be like Lloyd James did, exactly the same cover as last season. Outwide we have two very good wide players with cover in Mills, a decent player, Dickson, a good player, OC, a decent prospect and Holmes, if and its a big if, he can stay fit, is also a decent player at this level. The evidence is that we were rumoured to bid for Bailey from Charlton, had a former premier league player on trial which for whatever reason didn't work out and Pardew has said he wants to bring in 3 players, stuff is going on just because the club aren't announcing every player they are interested in like some do, doesn't mean nothing is going on.
