You are using Wednesday to support your argument, yet a few posts ago you were saying we are only 5 points off second with two games in hand, you cant have it both ways. If you use the points to games ratio Huddersfield would be second and guess what, we were well beaten there in a dire away performance, i know i was there. One point and no goals for against the top two is not so impressive. In fact our only other goals against any team 6 were penalties.
-
Of course the other way of looking at it is of the 3 league games we played in Jan, 2 were away, one against the team with the best home record last season and we were unbeaten winning one and drawing two. Do you think this current side would go to Millwall and get a point?
-
Err, you did.
-
Probably not but if anyone questions your language you can say you have as an excuse.
-
Indeed, i dont recall people complaining about it when we were beating Leeds, Huddersfield, Charlton and Norwich.
-
Promotion would be brilliant, but expected. Given the strength of the division this season i expect progress to be promotion and more points that last year. TBH if we get promoted with less points i wont care. But the fact will be that as a team we have not performed as well as least season, because we have less won less games, lost more and have fewer points in a weaker league.
-
I thought it was quite obvious. People keep banging the drum that we are progressing, but the facts dont back this up. This time last season we had more points in a tougher league.

I bet you £1m the answer wouldn't have been watching Saints play this lot in League one! They were a nice family that lot, proper friendly and down to earth, that girl must be legal by now!! Yep, i dont think they quite saw the funny side of my day report! I wonder if the family stilll post on their forum? Might go on later and have a look, steal a march on you for the girl!!

I am going to this one. New Years day 2004 myself and a few mates were at a loose end so decided to do Aldershot v D&R in a vauxhall conference game, Saints were 4th in the PL at the time. Almost 7 year to the day i'll be watching us play in a league match. Unreal.
-
It isn't flawed, it's a like for like comparision of this season or last. If i'm not much mistaken our season started against Plymouth in August, not in September when Nigel Adkins took over.
-
F*ck yeah, okay i made a mistake, deflected free kick wasn't it. He didn't play against plymouth though.
-
Might that be because Rickie Lambert didn't play against Plymouth or Orient prehaps?
-
Oh right so Pardews hoof to Lambert tactics didn't give us championship winning form between January and May? And the hoof to Lambert created no chances at all when we didn't win? Really, what about the at the stats of Oldham at home for example, under your theory it would show 0 attempts at goal, not 19 according to the BBC website.
-
Well the FACT is that we had more points than this time last season, depsite the fact that last season we had no pre season and were building a team and a squad during the season rather than before it. So do you not agree that Leeds and Norwich 2nd and 5th in the championship respectiveand Millwall, midtable in the NPC are better sides than Sheffield Wednesday, Peterborough and Plymouth? If you do, then if the best three teams are no longer in the league and replaced by 3 teams clearly not as good, then the league is not as strong as it was last season, right or wrong?
-
Sorry, but i dont hear Alex Fergusson at the start of every season saying that he hopes Chelsea aren't as good this year, that he hopes his team play well, he hope this that and the other. Of course he doesn't, obviously there are no guarentees at any club but Man Utd have been Englands most successful club over the last 20 years because they plan to win every competition they play in, based on what Man Utd do their players their team, their performance, not hoping the others fail. Our plan seems to be hoping we dramatically improve and hoping the others dont or go backwards. And before you start saying comparing us to Man Utd is ludicrious, i am not comparing the clubs but i am comparing the strategy.
-
and below Bournemouth, Colchester and Exeter who 4 years ago were a non league club.
-
You do make me laugh you c***, thats why i campaigned for your return.
-
All bit hopeful though isnt it Jamie? Hoping teams dont keep up their level of performance, hoping we improve, hope we sign players to improve, hope Lambert comes good, when there is nothing to suggest any of this will happen. Hope is what you cling to when you have nothing else. Also dont forget teams like Carlise and Bournemouth will make use of the loan window too.

We are on 28 played 19, 1.47 a game, over a season over a course of a season that is 67 points.
-
only an idiot would claim this league is as strong as last season.
-
We are also 10th and dont forget, all the teams around us and above us have two games in hand on second as well.
-
Okay mate, It is a fact that we played two top six championship sides as two of our 19 games last year, and also Millwall, now a mid table championship side and the top 3 sides in league one last season. The league is withour question weaker now than it was last season.
-
I agree with what you say Jamie, but the simple fact is that people with the red and white tinted glasses on claim we are progressing etc when the facts PROVE we are not. We are not going to go up if we keep performing as we have been this season. A season where our chairman has described promotion as essential. I for one am getting a bit tired with all this talk about visions and planning etc, we need to stop thinking about the premier league, champions league and the bizarre claims from some that we can be as big as liverpool and concentrate on getting out of this sh*t league.
-
Well, this time last year we had just lost away at Leeds who are now second in the championship and a couple of months prior had drawn at home against now 5th in the championship Norwich when at the same time this year we had just beaten 19th place Notts County so you could argue that we have had easier games this season.
