Shea was also wanted by Championship also rans Birmingham and Millwall: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/29/southampton-looking-to-add-brek-shea-on-loan/? Got to hope we haven't gone from Townsend to this guy. Also quite hilarious now that some turned their nose up at the idea of Townsend, we are now looking at someone who failed to score in 8 games on loan at Barnsley next season. If, of course, this is true. But would think US Goal might have some decent links to US Players.
-
In terms of quality of course. I meant more that of all our signings, only Gardos looks like someone the scouts have picked up. The others were either obvious or known and recommended by Koeman.
-
Obviously no Lovren style dossier here. Of all our signings, only Gardos seems like a win for the scouting team.
-
He probably didn't feature Tuesday because we didn't him to have made an app for us as then he might not be able to move. End of the day, loads of signings have to wait before they make lots of appearances. From the sounds of things he couldn't speak any English, as didn't do any kind of interview when he signed. Just think it seemed like a panic signing, at that point we needed a signing to appease fans after Chambers had been sold, and we were offered Taider by Inter, probably didn't do much due diligence on him and ended up signing someone who didn't really want to be here. He was hesitant according to the Italian press, just like Osvaldo was.
-
May not be the case but this deal did have the hallmarks of a make weight in the Osvaldo deal, in that the deals were separate but we were obviously offered Taider and Schelotto when we probably wouldn't have been interested in either if we didn't conveniently happen to be in discussions with Inter at the same time. I would think we won't bother replacing him, and if we don't it kind of shows it was an impulse deal. If any of our other signings suddenly left we would HAVE to replace them. Not the case here, which suggests it wasn't a priority but just something that came up. Inter were obviously keen to push him out the door, and reports suggested he wasn't overly keen at first. Doesn't' sound like one of the ones Reed said in May/June that we had been watching for ages and the player was gagging to come here. However it's dressed up the planning and execution of the window has been very poor.
-
West Ham look like getting Song and Micah Richards.
-
So we have 6 new signings and 6 players have left I think so with three days to go we are level numbers wise but quite significantly down quality wise.
-
Very odd. Clearly not much due diligence done with this one.
-
Going back to Italy. Very strange.
-
Any comparison you could make in terms of style, with another PL player?
-
Is he a run at players type winger like a Townsend type, or someone with good delivery?
-
Clasie has signed a new deal at Feyenoord so he won't be moving.
-
Not sure, Tadic aside, that we have much anymore.

This would suggest otherwise... Sky Sports understands unsettled Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano is desperate to secure a move to West Ham. The 29-year-old reportedly had a training ground bust up with Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa and is keen to exit the club. And Amalfitano is prepared to go on strike to ensure he returns to the Premier League with the Hammers before the closure of the transfer window at the end of this month. Amalfitano, who has one international cap for France, was on loan in England with West Brom last season. During his time at The Hawthorns, Amalfitano scored four goals in 28 appearances for Albion. Amalfitano started his career in France with Sedan and spent three years at Lorient before moving to Marseille in 2011.
-
Geoff Cameron or Andy Wilkinson probably more our level than Richards.
-
Someone like Amalfitano on loan would be miles, miles better than Shea.
-
He is too good a player for a club the size of Saints to lose this easily. Very strange decision. Was also interesting that Koeman has mentioned about "the club" deciding on his future rather than Koeman himself. In the programme, Fonte said Saints had been trying to get him to sign a deal since January, yet Cork hasnt seemingly been offered one. Maybe its more a club decision than Koemans? If so, thats never a good idea.

Hugo Shecketer - player liaison officer?
Saint Charlie replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Who will this lad's de Pedro be? -
He is just a Father commenting on his Son's situation. He might come across like a wally, but quite likely that he knows more about the situation than we do, and probably is echoing the way Jack feels. Not saying he is handling it very well, but his Dad is nothing to do with the club so he can do/say what he wants, as can we on here. Could not blame Cork for wanting to leave, the treatment of him is baffling and a little disrespectful for someone who has done a great job here and never been a minute's trouble.
-
Its a fair point though.
-
Was his only PL goal I think, or he may have scored one more. Has zero goals or assists this season for Norwich also. Compared to Shea he is brilliant, but in reality is ok. Mind you, Schelotto would have been great compared to Shea. Hopefully that one is a made up rumour.
-
Saints are a club that gives young players a chance if they are good enough... Rowe was dropped from the U21s towards the end of the last season. The PL isnt the place to go out on a limb to play youth players who arent up to the standard.
-
Will be West Ham. I think they are about the only club that deal with the likes of Silkman. Besides, I don't think we are looking for another CB. We want two players, wide man and right back cover I would assume. Alderweireld would have been ideal as can play RB and CB but he is going to Sunderland it seems.
-
Spurs won't deal with us for Townsend, although if they signed another wide player then maybe. Agree re Redmond, no end product but still can be a threat, and maybe we could improve him? End of the day, we need someone out wide, and seeing as we have brought in nearly 90m and spent about 40-50, we could surely afford to buy someone.
-
I don't understand? If we have bid for Townsend we obviously think we can pay his wages which are allegedly about 40k a week. So why would wages generally be a problem? We could easily afford to sign some players if we are willing to pay that sort of cash, and players like Long, Forster, Pelle, Tadic wouldnt be on peanuts.
