  1. @solentsport: Statement from PKF: "We can confirm that the administrators have now exchanged contracts with the PST for its purchase of #Pompey" conts >

@solentsport: (cont) “Completion is conditional only upon the Court sanctioning theft of Fratton Pk and the Football League transferring membership share"

    Fixed.

  2. Why would any sane person want to sell Lambert right now?

Not just a proven goalscorer (and has he ever missed a penalty for us?), but a talisman for our club. And an honourable person - if that means anything to some of you people!

    Nope :)

When I began researching this game, I did so expecting to confirm a suspicion that the prices are correct in making Norwich marginal favourites in a hard-to-call contest on the grounds that they're at home. However, closer inspection reveals information which I think makes the hosts worth a good bet at close to 6/4. For all the praise Southampton have received both before and since the departure of Nigel Adkins, they're won just two of their last 13 games in all competitions.

That one of those was a superb 3-1 dismissal of current Premier League title holders Manchester City explains the media admiration for a side whose overall form doesn't entitle them to be just 2/1 to win at Norwich. Of particular concern to supporters must be Saturday's defeat to QPR, but the concession of four goals to Newcastle prior to that also rates a worry and Norwich have enough about them to contain easy-on-the-eye Southampton before pouncing for three points. The Canaries have played 11 Premier League games at Carrow Road since losing 5-2 to Liverpool in September, and they've won six of them.

Yes, most came during a fine winter run but a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Everton last time could provide the platform for another. In addition, even when they've failed to win Norwich have still impressed, with narrow defeats to the likes of Chelsea and Man City plus a draw with Spurs. Put simply, over the last three months if you'd backed Norwich in games like this you'd be well in front and there's no reason not to do so at the price.

    Verdict: Norwich 2 Southampton 0

Maybe we shouldn't be favourites to win on our current form, but by that same form, I certainly wouldn't rate Norwich as having enough to contain us to nil.

  4. But surely their competitors will see this as an unfair subsidy which they don't get ??

PPs are a percentage of the total amount of revenue the Prem gets IIRC, so all the teams due PPs will be getting the extra, if true.

  5. A point V United would have kept us up on the last day.

Saying that, holding on in any of the Villa, Boro, Everton or Arsenal games would have also seen us safe.

Especially the Arsenal one, where 4 minutes of injury time was given and they scored in the 6th...

Pretty sure we would have needed the win because Pompey laid down against West Brom?

But yeah, I still get ****ed off with the ref remembering that Arsenal game even now.

  6. I think I'm missing something here...

The football creditor rules, which state that the players get first dibs in any administration, are made by and upheld by the football authorities.... So, why oh why are the football league giving their backing to a bid that is blatantly aiming to flout the very same rules that they are supposed to be upholding?

As I say, am I missing something obvious here?

Maybe it's the PST missing it?

    Really wouldn't surprise me.

It's blatantly obvious that the players made a huge mistake agreeing to any compromise at all if they wanted to see their money.

  7. So, they've promised first dibs on the August parachute payments to the council, according to the BBC.

That means they need to renegotiate with the players, no wonder the PFA isn't happy.

Guess the former players already owed money are easier to negotiate with than PCC who they're trying to get to lend them money.

  8. Premier League ‏@premierleague

Howard Webb has been appointed referee for Southampton v QPR on 02/03/13. #SOUQPR

Glad about that personally, normally calls our games right down the middle.
