None of the players like the Kookaburra ball!
Update on bowling.
- Baker has a knee injury and there is some hope he will be fit again next week
- Wheal has a heel injury and not available at present.
- Turner is out for the season with a stress fracture.
- Barker is available after this game.
Do you know why Barker isn't playing?

I presume Labour have done the calculations and found it will benefit them!

Another thing, on the scheduling this year... we finish the group stage the quarter-finals are A WEEK before Finals Day in September. Utterly ridiculous, and likely means empty seats at Edgbaston in the four competing teams' allocations.
No worries. Finals Day will be the 4 southern teams as usual .

Well done and a deserved test call up for Liam Dawson, lets hope he gets picked for the last 2 matches. [ Plus Austrailia tour as well ].
Great for Liam but bad news for Hants. Is Organ good enough to be leading spin bowler? At least he will have Barker's footprints to bowl into.

Looking for advice if anyone can help.
I was made redundant in May and in preparation set up a company to work freelance in April. I have a potential contract but am falling foul of IR35 (independent company assessment not CEST).
Do any Saints fans have any expertise in this area and are willing to provide advice? Even around umbrella companies if that is what I need to do. Thanks.
I asked the question to perplexity (ai) and this is what it replied.

BBC starts a special live text feed to cover Mulder beating Lara's test record and he declared before doing so.

Going to be a tough ask against Somerset today.
Especially as Chris Lynn is out injured (he didn't field yesterday). A bit rusty as he hadn't played since January.

Small world. My first job was as a paperboy for the newsagent in Hollybank. They used to smoke like chimneys in the back room.
Back to my first record. I was young. I fancied the singer like mad. She was also an actress. But the song is a bit cheesy and embarrassing so you should be so lucky if I’m going to tell you!
In my defence, I bought it more for the cover than the actual song.
First CD album I bought was Dire Straits, Brother In Arms. Have been lucky to meet Mark Knopfler and also his family on a few occasions. All lovely people.
I'm suspecting Kylie Minogue.

This is going to be a draw.
Right result in the end after making it hard for themselves. After being in a very difficult place the last three batsmen fought well to save the game.

Of course the narrative should be questioned. Following the science has lead to disasters too. Im sure people who questioned the thalidomide drug back in the 60s were called conspiracy theorists. There have been 100s of drugs that have been withdrawn that were first deemed to be safe. Not to mention following the science with our diets told us to cut out meat and eggs and eat processed crap which has directly lead to the obesity epidemic we now have.
Thalidomide has been repurposed as a treatment for certain types of cancer (obviously great precaution when giving it to women of child bearing age).

When are the two SAs off for the international ? Assume after these 3 games Thu-Sun. Not really sure what our plan B will be then as the batting already looks very weak for the blast.
good news on the additional Indian batter for the championship - may be needed to stay up.
They have got two more games. Sunday's game is already championship.
The next four championship games will be played with the Kookaburra ball. Any one know if that is advantageous for Hants or not?
-
Hants have signed Indian white ball specialist Tilak Varma for the next four championship games.
One wonders why they haven't signed him for the T20 as well. Perhaps that will come later.

Cracking bowling tonight. Were chugging along fine with the bat too, until the rain came. Currie has come on loans.
Currie had a very good first season in T20(as did Turner) in 2021 being in the top 3 on bowling average and strike rate . Perhaps unknown bowlers can surprise the batters. The following seasons weren't so good but hopefully now he can do well.

Indeed excellent bowling by Currie.
I see that the two South African batters are called up for their series against Zimbabwe, end of juin I think.
Will that leave us 2 batters short for the T20?
They would be available for the knockout matches I think. Hants looking to recruit 2 batters for July

Agree that we’re alright for all-rounders. Barker is coming back next month, Kelly is highly rated for the future and there’s always Organ for a spin option.
A top order batsman has to be a priority, if we can persuade Brevis to get in on the County team, that’d be frickin’ sweet awesome.
This is how his signing was announced:
Hampshire have signed South Africa batter Dewald Brevis to play in their Vitality T20 Blast campaign. Brevis, 21, will also be available for Hamphire's two County Championship fixtures during the break in the Blast.
