  1. Nothing to do with precedents.

The law states that if a secure creditor puts the business into administration any winding up order is stayed. HMRC accept Chainrai is a secure creditor. Therefore the stay will be put in place. They may not be happy (and nor should they) but throwing more money at a forgone conclusion is a waste of taxpayers money.

    Spot on.

This wasn't a great battle for survival which they won and HMRC lost.

They are just back to where they started from, in admin, relegated and facing a very very uncertain future. There are a dozen CCC clubs that represent better value and potential for someone looking to invest in a Football Club. They've just lost the only attractive thing about themselves, their Premier league status.

Take away James, Belhadj,Ohara,Piquonne, and Yebda and they're very very ordinary. It's tough enough to get back up, with a decent side. We'll be back in the Preimership before they will, I'm convinced of that.

  2. every persons vote should be representative ,get your mindset around that.

its got nothing to do with your paranoid dreaming.

i did not hear you moan in 1983 when a majority of the country voted against the tories when it gave them a landslide.

your just a follower of a party who wantsno change ever.

thank god cameron wants shot of dinosaurs in the party

I want change. As an Englishman I want the same devolution settlement that Brown's constituants have.

Funny how PR rears its ugly head, whenever it looks like we're going to get a Tory administration.

  3.

every vote should count and be representative.

Oh yes a fairer system, like the one used in the European Parliament and gave us Nick Griffin.

We have a constituency based system, it has served us well for hundreds of years.

The system we have in this Country means that the Tory party needs to win more votes to gain power than the Labour party, and yet there's silence over that. If it was the other way round all the bleeding hearts would be getting their knickers in a right twist.

If you want to start tinkering with the electoral system, why don't you start with an English parliament? The Scots have one, The Welsh have one, what's the difference. Well we all know what the difference is, England is Tory, so the left leaning establishment and media cant have that.

Why do the people who go on about fairness in the electoral system, never bring up this blatant discrimination?

The English people should have the same system as the rest of the UK.

If Maggie had set up devolution for England and not Scotland there would have been riots.

  4. Socialists will never form a Government in the Country ever again. It is a discredited ideology reliving the student debates of the 60's and 70's. The Country has moved on and the Labour party has abandoned clause 4.

You'll find people like Straw, Brown and Prescott abondaded their beliefs in a grab for power. There is no way that the Labour Party of the past 100 years would have elected Tony Blair as it's leader based on its ideology. He was elected to appeal to the electorate and he was nearer to Thatcher than Foot or Benn.

Government is now basically an administrators job, the big ideological debates of previous years have gone, the European project has rendered a lot of what parties want to do irrelevant. It's now a case of who sells their watered down Tory policies the best.

  5. The Iraq War was voted for in the Commons with Tory support. Most of the dissent came from the left wing of the Labour Party.

Even now, you don't hear anything from Cameron opposing the war in Afghanistan.

The British people had an election after the invasion and returned Blair for another term. That suggests that either more people backed it, than is made out,or they didn't think it was a big deal.

As for Foot and the KGB, it's already pretty much established that another hero of the left Jack Jones was in their pay as well.

Thank God Mrs Thatcher routed these loonys and along with Reagan made the world a safer place.

  6. i,m not a socialist and if you want to kiss maggies ass thats up to you blair won 3 elections and was the longest premier in history ,so what ,

history has already forgotten about them.

they don,t compare to churchill or attlie for acheivements such has fighting facism and nhs.

Blair was not the longest serving Prime Minister in history, you just made that up.

History has not forgotton about Thatcher either, you made that up as well.

Her legacy will live on for many years after her death. The fact that the Labour party had to reinvent it's self as a left of centre Tory party is down to the fact that she changed Britain for the better. It is unthinkable that we would own a car company, an airline and the phone company. Unthinkable that people had to go cap in hand to a Building Society Manager, after saving with them for years, to get a mortgage. And unthinkable that the unions could grind the Country to a halt, with secondary picketting and strikes called without a ballot. This is a completely different Country than the one pre 1979, and that is down to Mrs Thatcher and her policies.

  7. it seems since the 60,s to the present day we have had no giants has leaders.

wilson and thatcher were small fry compared to those great leaders.

What a load of old pony.

Before Thatcher, Heath Wilson and Callaghan had made Britain the Sick Man of Europe. Thatcher won 3 election victories and made Britain a home owning, share owning, enterprise country and she is respected the world over. She set the Country free from the Socialist dogma and lily livered wet Tory's that had caused the Country to grind to a halt. The rich were taxed at 82% and the poor at 33%, and the Country was held to ransom by the unions.

It is only the bitter left wing and left leaning establishment of this Country, that decry her achievements. She was a great Leader, and even now Brown wanted to be seen inviting her to number 10. To compare her to Wilson (with his corrupt lavender list) is quite simply an insult.

  8. Lol at this quote in the 606 debate box in this article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/8555595.stm

Do you want to tell him or should I?

Whilst most are clueless muppets there are one or two with a bit of sense.

This was one of the best posts I've read from them.

"I wish with all my heart that Pompey were not in this mess financially. We have been shamed by the goings on. I will always support them on the pitch but its true what people are saying. We bought the cup with money we didn't, and aren't likely to, have. I went on record the other day, saying that clubs shouldn't be allowed to borrow at all! As it stands now, were this the case, we would be still in the 2nd tier, and to be honest, I would be a lot happier. We might have been in the premiership on merit, who knows, but at least I could have the Pompey and proud feelings I used to know."

I maybe going soft, but I feel sorry for this guy.

  9. There used to be the joke about the Russian whose electricity broke down and needed fixing. The State Electricity company told him that they could come out and see him on the fifteenth of June three years later. He looked at his diary and said sorry, I've got the Gas man coming that day.

Would you prefer the old Socialist system from the former Soviet Union? The point is, although there are some hiccups sometimes, the free market capitalist system is the best way to run business and industry. As soon as you get nationalisation and subsidies, the scope increases for bureacratic costs to rise, overmanning and profligacy to increase.

I hope that in your everyday life, you appreciate that with everything you buy, you have a choice. That you can also drop those suppliers who do not give you good service. If they fail because they do not offer competitive prices or good service, would you wish them to stay in business and continue to use their services? I don't think so.

    Spot on.

How long did it used to take to get a phone line installed?

Foot wanted to renationalise everything that MT set free. He wanted to follow an agenda way to the left of the Callaghan Gov. A Gov, that let's not forget, needed bailing out by the IMF. The basic rate of tax was 33% and the top rate was 83% pre Thatcher. Rates that are unthinkable nowadays and anyone suggusting them would never get voted for by the British people.

Did those tax rates give us better services?

Did they redistrubute wealth to the poorest?

Did nationlised industries bring more wealth to the Country?

Of course not, the country was on it's knees, the sick man of Europe.

But then that's Labour Gov's for you. You'll also end up paying more tax, and they'll always run out of money.Always have done, and always will do.

  10. It's obviously to do with league positions. For many years most saints supporters weren't too bothered about them, whereas their numpties had total hatred for us.

I used to find it funny that they hated us so much and a bit wierd. I remember a night out with my cousin and all his QPR supporting mates in ealing a few years back. One of them had brought his Skate mate along, and as the night wore on, he got more and more leary with me. He was trying to get into some banter, but I really couldn't have cared less. The QPR guys found it a bit odd, this obsession he seemed to have with us, but the more I couldn't care, the more leary he got. It ended up with us being seperated as we came to blows. The general feeling in the pub, was that he was totally out of order and "I've never seen him like that before" (he was living nearby, so was known by most of the punters). He made a complete fool of himself and his mate couldn't apoligise to the rest of us enough. I really did feel sorry for him and wondered how someone could be so bitter. When I remember how foolish he looked, I would hate to see our supporters being like that. However, we have got a few and they're growing. The thing that wound him up the most, was that I didn't take his Club or this rivalery as serious as he did.His hatred boiled over, beacuse I couldn't care less about his Club and didn't consider them our equals (remember at the time, I had yet to see them finish above us in my lifetime)

The more we sing about them, the more it looks like we're jealous of them.

  11.

Interestingly half listening to Talksport this morning with Mark Saggers & Micky Quinn - Quinn is just being his usual Pompey supporting self - they've got a journalist on (think he might be from the Guardian) who has just mentioned the suspicion that Arkadi Gaydemak might be behind it all. Both the hosts ignored it, but thats the first time I've heard Arkai being mentioned like that!!

Quinn is a bloody joker, all this "what a great story" and "unbelievable" about them reaching the semi's. Christ sake they only beat Cov (somehow) a 3rd flight outfit (after being outplayed), Sunderland who are on an awful run (at Fratton) and Brum, again at home, with a dodgey decision.

The way this is being spun, anyone would think they're matching Herefored in '74 or Chesterfield in '97. I seem to recall watford were deep in the mire when we played them in the '03 semi, and they were near the bottom of the Championship. What about Wycombe or the afor mentioned Chesterfield.

Did you also hear Quinn's dig at Fulham, how they "let people in for free to fill their ground". In the next breath, he's fawning over the Blue Few.

It's clowns like Quinn and lazy journo's, that fuel the myth of the "worlds best supporters". The facts are all there to see, attendances are published each week.

Poorsmouth in the Semi Final of the FA Cup, is the non story of the season.

  12. The only thing that cheers me up is the thought that they'll mess it up in the end, and it'll hurt more (I thought that in 08, and look how that ended up).

Chelsea, Spurs and Villa will murder them at Wembley, but knowing their luck they'll get Reading.

  13. I was younger when the poll tax thing happened..I remember all the protests..

isnt council tax another version of the poll tax..?

A Poll tax is a per head flat tax.

The Tory manifesto included a pledge to abolish the rates and replace it with a fairer Community charge. Personally, I thought it was a fairer system. There are many elderly people living in big houses, who have less disposable income than others in smaller cheaper property. To judge someones ability to pay on the value of their house is a very crude way of collecting taxes.

  14. Bit unfair to pick on you as you're only repeating received wisdom, but the 1983 Labour Party still received 8.4m votes at that year's general election, that can be compared to the 8.3m Hague got in 2001 or the 8.7m Howard got in 2005. But we don't say that the British people rejected Tory ideas, they don't seem to mind the warmed up and more professionally presented version that Cameron's offering now.

In fact, given that his leadership had been crippled before it got started with the formation of the SDP he didn't really do that badly.

"Bit unfair to pick on you as you're only repeating received wisdom", received from whom? I voted in '83 and took an interest in politics. I saw for myself what happened.

They polled 11.5 million in '79 and that was after the Callaghan years, a massive drop in 4 years, they also polled below 30% of the vote in '83.

Had the Labour party kept to Foot's ideals of Clause 4, withdrawal from Europe, abandoning the United Kingdom's nuclear deterrent (during the cold war), abolishing the house of lords, and an end to council house sales, they would have never formed a Gov again. His beliefs were rejected by the British people, that's why the Party did a complete about turn on nearly all of them.

The reason for the SDP was because the policies of Foot, Benn and other loons drove moderate men like David Owen and Bill Rodgers away from the party.

The comparison with Hague and Howard does not stand up, because although a watered down version, DC's manifesto will not differer that much.

Foot and Benn were not eccentric, harmless idealists but dangerous men in powerful positions. Men who if they had their way would have changed the UK fundamentally beyond recognition.

I find it strange that Mrs Thatcher, who had the same conviction about her beliefs as Foot, but was proved to be right, is hated by the left wing establishment, and yet Foot, who was wrong time and time again, praised for sticking by his ideals long after they were discredited.

  15. Whilst it's always sad when someone passes, I find all these tributes to Foot and his beliefs a bit OTT.

He was wrong about most of the issues he stood for, and I dread to think where the Country would be, if we turned to his ideas in the 70's/80's instead of Maggie's. I believe he was a founding member of CND, a dangerous and in my opinion, discredited organisation.

The fact of the matter was the 1983 Labour manifesto, reflected Foot's beliefs. I can not recall another election where a manifesto so reflected the leader's core beliefs. To recap the Labour party suffered it's worse drubbing since 1918, as the British people rejected Foot's ideas. The lean towards the left of him and Benn, nearly destroyed the Labour Party, and it was only when they moved as far away from Foots ideals as possible, that they were able to be be elected once more.If they had followed the Foot/Benn path, they would be a tiny party, representing a few Labour heartlands now.

Yes, he was an honest politian, who stood by his beliefs and was unwilling to water them down or change them to gain popularity. However, he was wrong time and time again (Just like Tony Benn). The Benn/Foot ideas for Britain would have left us a basket case and thankfully the British people rejected them.

  16. I went with my mate of 30 years whose from Huddersfield originally. He said our performance was the best he's seen for years, and he follows them regulary.

In 30 years of friendship, we've managed to get to 2 games together, the first one was a one man thrashing at The Dell, when Matty got all 4 and then again last night. We couldn't make the away game, as his daughter was married that weekend. He is a good luck omen, and I'm trying to persuade him to come to the Leeds game with me.

  17. Is it just me or is the Paul Hart story another bit of journalism from someone with no grasp of the facts?

Surely Hart is right up the front of the queue now as a football debt? Last week he had little hope, now like Sol he's guaranteed payment, unless they never kick a ball again...

Exactly.....He was on Sky's "Goals on Sunday" and he said that going into admin, had made his position stronger in terms of receiving what he was owed.

  18.

Given the suspicions outlined above and the fact that two of Pompey's three owners this season 'passed' the FAPL's 'Fit and Proper Persons' test, then the grounds for an appeal look reasonable at the very least.

You had 2 choices last week, admin (and the -9 that goes with it), or taking your chances in court today. You choose admin, and now seem to be complaining about the consiquences of that decision. From Grant, down to your supporters, you lot seem to think the rules dont apply to you.

The rules were in place when you decided not to pay the taxman.

  19. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5977133,00.html

"The rest of it has been a bonus given by (former owner) Sacha Gaydamak every year. That's in recognition of me keeping the club going for him by selling players"

In basic English, a cut of any transfer profit.

Weeks ago a journo was on Sky saying that HR and Storrie-Teller were getting a cut of each and every transfer. He said it was unheard of for the CEO to get this ( Used to be common for the Manager) and was a conflict of interest.

How any Skates still back Storrie is beyond me.

  20. These things are way too complicated for me, but I can't see how this helps them.

How does this help them pay off HMRC or pay the wages this month? It's not like the £10mil is a cash injection, they weren't paying off any of the £10mil anyway.

Any reduction in the debt, will just be offset by the reductions in the assets.

All I can see that's happened is Chaneri has placed the ground out of reach of the liquadator, get's £1mil a year for 15 years if they find a buyer, or can devolop if they dont.

Could it be that by doing this they also get the Directors off the "trading whilst insolvent hook?

  21. Also explains that despite our debts a year ago, Rupert was scrupulously ensuring that dues to HMRC were paid on time.

The minute Barclays failed to honour a cheque, Lowe placed us in admin, he said to do otherwise risked Trading whilst insolvent.
