We seem to be doing more now in the community than for the last ten years. Is that just modern PR? Maybe. But I just don't get this idea that we're not a community-facing/thinking club. Didn't we kick off some massive fundraising thing only a week or two back?

Look, the first biot is great - well done Nicky. But this thing about all these ex exmployees. Who are they? Where are they? The only person I don't see at SMS now who I used to see is Pardew. Otherwise, the same fit bird gives me my tickets, the same spotty oik or cute chubby chick pours my pint and the same steward is stood on the steps. Now, I know I am not privvy to the entire staff but... Do we actually have any HARD evidence of this ethnic cleansing at SMS???

It's interesting that Torres scored many more goals in La Liga than the Spanish Second Division?? "Atlético were promoted to La Liga at the end of the 2001–02 season, although Torres did not perform well in the season, as he netted only six times in 36 appearances in the Segunda División.[12] Torres' first season in La Liga, 2002–03, was better, however, as he scored 13 goals in 29 appearances, with Atlético finishing in 11th place.[12][11] In the 2003–04 season, his second in La Liga, Torres made further strides, scoring 19 league goals in 35 appearances..."

In your view. I totally disagree. I would be stunned if he would have made it past November. If you offered me the choice on July 1st this year to start with Lambert or Torres up front, I would have picked Rickie. He is a proven, league-topping goal-scorer in this league - twice. Torres made 22 league appearences in the league for Liverpool last year, 24 the year before... And as for, we can't have this 'hypothetical' argument, it wasn't me who first said Torres would score loads of goals in League Fecking One was it!?!!
-
But who would I have rather had up front last season and who WOULD have scored more goals? Richard Lambert.
-
From day one when I first made this argument I said I had no doubt Torres was a better striker - it would be bonkers to say otherwise. But who would I have rather had up front last season and who WOULD have scored more goals? Richard Lambert. What I see is people sheepishly now accepting this is true based on Torres' record, known mindset and the realities of League One and now running for cover claiming he could have single handedly saved Gillingham from relegation... LOL!
-
I cannot conceive that you cannot see this argument? Lambert - played in all weathers, battled on, all grounds and bullied (yes brutally sometimes) his way to 31? goals. You seriously believe that Fernando Torres would have scored that many goals playing upfront in a 4-5-1 for Southampton against Wycombe? Brentford? Carlisle... You do not believe he would been injured? Found the going a bit tough? Bottled it after a few rank trips to Hartlepool?? Tell you what then, why not go buy the fastest racehorse you can find and enter it into the Grand National. After all, it will win.
-
Right. Let's say last season Torres was playing for Gillingham. Would he have scored more than Lambert's 31 goals??
-
All of which bar the pace also describe Lallana.
-
Ok so Torres makes one of his darting runs, plays the ball to Chaplow, moves at pace to where he expects the return, sets himself up for a volley and then... Chaplow has laid the ball square to someone else because Torres is on a different plane to everyone else, which means he quickly gets ****ed off, quickly realises he is way too good for League One and that's the end of that... I guess if it's as simple as the best footballers in the world being able to excel in any game at every level, Torres would be top scorer in the Blue Square and playing for my local pub side irrespective of the players around him? Isn't it more about horses for courses?
-
I think you could easily see Messi and Lallana as similar players could you not? Skilful, thoughtful, intelliegent players who covet the ball and use it well. Certainly Lallana is more similar to Messi than any other players at that level.
-
Where has anyone ever said Lambert is a better footballer than Torres? Do let me know...
-
Let me explain this for the hard of thinking in topical terms... Which is quicker? A 2.0 200 bhp rear wheel drive car or a 80bhp front wheel drive 1.4? Tonight, the latter because I have had to leave the former at the office as I couldn't get it down a road unless sideways. Is it the lesser car? Of course it's fecking not - but is it suited to snow? Not fecking likely.
-
No it's nothing like that. Messi and Lallana are very similar and Messi simply loves to play football. Torres is not a bad footballer. But he simply would not turn up in this division. If you can't see that, hello Stevie Wonder...
-
Right. Think about it. How many games do you really think Fernando Torres would be motivated to play in against League One opposition? Huddersfield? Carlisle maybe? Oh no, hang on, he'd score a hatrick at Hartlepool and then celebrate with a fish supper at Harry Ramsden while lamenting he wished his mother could make battered cod rather than a half-decent Paella stuffed with mussels and chorizo...
-
Correct - look at how bad he is for Liverpool when it rains. Imagine him at Griffin Park. I would be amazed if he got off the team bus.
-
Not really. Are you seriously suggesting Lambert would be a better bet than Rooney?
-
Nope but both would score more goals at this level than Torres.
-
Amen to that.

I love fans who get excited about the prospect of Manchester United at home. Here is a message for them. F U C K Off and watch United then, and buy a house in St Albans with all their other fans. I pay to watch Southampton.

We used to have Brett Ormerod... Bring it on baby!!

Has he really been banned? If so why? And is it not what my forefathers died for - freedom?

Is our squad strong enough to last till January?
Legod Third Coming replied to Dazza82's topic in The Saints
I thought his missed free header on Tuesday was one of the worst misses I have seen from a striker of his quality in a long long time... That's not fitness, that's confidence or something else mental. -
I think Brighton demonstrate that you can play badly and get a result if you're a decent team and that, because they have won games they SHOULD have won, they can now afford a wobble, whereas we can't. I'd like to see us put poor teams to the sword that our resources should. The last ten games, while offering good stats, tells only half the story. Look at our last five away games where a team of our stature and resources should really be achieving better results. I don't hold Adkins up as wholly responsible for this (ie it's not a criticism yet) but soon we have to start being a genuinely dominant force. Holding up recent results doesn't really give me the confidence it should because while we hammered a poor Tranmere and Peterborough, we can't win away which we will need to do to win the league. Watching us, I see a team that's doing ok but not as well as I would expect given the resources and players available. It could be the system, the tactics, the approach, I don't know but it's not clicking yet for me. I can't see a player on the park who inidividually wouldn't walk into any other League One team but we're not having the barnstormer I would have predicted regardless of manager. Think about it: Davis - best shot-stopper in the league Fonte - best centre back? Jaidi - easily good enough for this league Richardson - voted Charlton player of the season. arguably best right back in the league Harding/Dickson - easily two of the best left backs in the league Morgan - good enough for French U21 (from League One) Chaplow - championship standard Chamberlain - we'll see Lallana - probably the most skillful player in the league Hammond - leaving my opinion aside, still walks into any other league one side I'm pretty sure Lambert - best striker in the league last yeat Barnard - second best... Really, this is like taking the old Liverpool team of the 70s and dropping them into the Championship. If they didn't win that league at a canter you'd wonder what was going on. I'm wondering if we're really struggling as a club to adopt a winning/dominating mentality...
-
Er, have I criticised Adkins or just said that WE as a team should be dominating this league? We should be dominating this league if YOU were managing it ffs!
