Echo today at 1200
MARK Fry has admitted he is satisfied that Michael Fialka DOES have the money to complete a takeover.
The administrator said he had seen the Echo’s exclusive story yesterday regarding Fialka’s background and his companies’ financial positions.
“I have seen stories myself and clearly they are very a cursory look into the background of the individual concerned,” he said.
“As far as I am aware that individual is from a substantially wealthy family.
“There are other people surrounding that individual that are also involved in the Pinnacle Group.
“It is referred to as the group because that’s what it is.
'As far as I am aware' is hardly a ringing endorsement, is it?
Precisely translated it means: 'To the limited extent of my knowledge.' I take it to mean that Fry actually had no idea of Fialka's family situation - living at home, Dad a taxi driver, Mum a small shop owner.
It seems entirely possible that the 'cursory look' was a little closer to home.

Perhaps Fry can sell enough exclusivity periods to get us through the season.

So Jackson has either lied about approaching Peter Reid or tapped him up. Brilliant!
I'm starting to wonder if this club has been relegated to some sort of plot twist in a Samuel Beckett play, because it's becoming increasingly hard to believe that we could have accumulated such a prize collection as LLS, tommac, HMR, (not forgetting Lowe, Askham...etc.), without someone just making up characters so utterly monomaniacal, vain and witless.
Waitig for Jacko. Oh god, please no.

My take on this is that Tony Lynam is just another tyre kicker as too is Jackson.
Time to bring in the professionals.
Fry will squeal because he knows how little Salz is prepared to pay.
But enough is enough IMHO
Regards
Morph
Morph, I've always been interested in what you say, but I've noticed a pretty firm trend setting in: you tend to be wrong far more often than you're right.
Besides, Salz has an excellent financial pedigree of course - but isn't he a fairly precise definition of a tyre kicker? Someone who wanders round the SFC forecourt saying, in effect, 'I'm just looking - honest. But if you're desperate, I'll take this heap off your hands. Here's 50p.'
As I'm sure any car salesman will tell you, anyone who, like Lynam, strolls up and splashes out bundles of cash with no guarantee of an end sale is about as far removed from a tyrekicker as it's possible to imagine.
And it's not exactly cricket to compare Lynam with the incomparable MJ, is it?
I'm not getting at you (actually I blame trousers) - but shouldn't you try a bit harder to come off a bit less than an unquestioning cheerleader?
Salz must have a pretty badly bruised toe after all this time - IF what you say is true for once.

Which puts the tin hat on any talk of "natural justice" on either side firmly in the bin, then. Good, that was the point I was making.
The news that Pinnacle are paying the wages on Thursday is excellent.
I wonder if you'd agree to be culled. Humanely, of course. And nothing personal. It's just that there are two many damned Frys in all this - bank managers, administrators and impersonators of Howard Beale.
Or perhaps we could merge all the Frys into one super-Fry.
A mad-as-hell human torpedo of businesses and forums.
Just thought.

I think a class act and possibly one of the reason's Matty was confering with Kevin Keegan would be Denis Wise. A Saint, one who desperately wanted the managers job after Harry left. He refused to kow tow to Lowe, left and went on gained fantastic experience, not only at Swindon but at Leeds in League Oner with minus 17 points. After he has had top experience working in an executive role with the likes of Keegan. He knows a good player when he sees one. Not exactly a smooth ride but one in which he fought on against northern prejudice, and will have learned one hell of a lot.
Wise, for me, is just the former Saint that we need at this time.
To say I'd be happy if you were wrong would be an understatement. In any case, Keegan and Wise apparently loathe each other.

If this is the comedy awards, there's no contest.
Sadly it's worse than that though. MJ has the depressing capacity to be just as destructive as that dimwit tommac with his share-price ramping antics and fatuous pretence that he was Paul Allen's representative on earth.
We should settle it with a penalty shoot out between the two.

Once again, this puts Pinnacle in a terribly unprofessional light.
There is absolutely no reason why this needed to be a last minute issue. This should be been discussed and resolved with the FA over the last 3 weeks, if not before.
Transferring registration is hardly a surprise event that jumped out of nowhere to shock Pinnacle - they woulpd have known about this all along. The fact they ignored the issue and let it slip past their exclusivity period is not impressive.
Once again, the doubts I expressed right at the start of this "takeover" are coming to the fore. I have exactly the same feelings as I did with Mike Wilde - I continue to wish with all my heart that I am wrong this time.
This is just an appalling post. Attacking Pinnacle is one thing. Doing it by making supposition after supposition to show them in the worst light really brings your motives into serious question.
How do you KNOW that there was no reason why this became a last minute issue?
How do you KNOW that Pinnacle had not been in discussion with the FL (NOT the FA, by the way)
How do you KNOW that Pinnacle ignored the issue and 'let it slip' past their exclusivity period.
The answer to all of the above is that you don't. And yet each implicit claim to superior ITK is essential to your case that you appear to have known all along, at least in your own mind, that your 'doubts' would be realised. And all of the above are essential to your apparent belief that Pinnacle are exactly on a par with the cretinous Wilde.
Surreal.

I think it's time to take a good look at 'Lord' Mawhinney's expenses.

Thursday? Oh my God...don't they realise that will disturb the space time continuum to the point of no return?
If you travelled out into the universe fast enough, you could return the day before you left. That's probably what was meant by 'Thursday'.
HTH.

From the London Dock strike of 1889, the Southampton Dock strike of 1890, the formation of the radical BSU in 1911, the 1912 Strike beatings, the 1926 General Strike, the 1945 Dock strike, the formation of the NDLB etc etc etc through to it's abolition in the 1980's, Southampton has always been at the forefront of strikes and union activism, but not ne record of S.C.U.M. anywhere:rolleyes:
 except for some saddos inventing it in the 1990's :smt046
Add another one to the list, um - the ‘Governor Eyre incident’ of 1865. Edward Eyre was Jamaica’s colonial governor, who directed a massacre against an uprising among the island’s peasants. Hundreds were killed and the survivors flogged. Defenders of his idiocy argued that black peasants were like British workers and required similar treatment.
Shortly afterwards, Eyre was attending a banquet in his honour in Southampton - a city known then as the 'gateway to the empire'. But the dinner broke up in chaos because of a vast rally by Southampton’s dockworkers, among others, and led by the 'Jamaica Committee' (formed by the John Stuart Mill). It was at that time the largest public gathering in the city’s history.
The Daily Telegraph, revealingly, moaned that ‘there are a good many negroes in Southampton, who have the taste of their tribe for any disturbance that appears safe and who are probably imbued with the conviction that it is the proper thing to hoot and yell at a number of gentlemen going to a dinner party.’ Of course, the ‘negroes’ were the very English and very white Southampton dock and factory workers, who won the day.
Eyre never set foot in Southampton again.
Here endeth the history lesson.

LOL, how long have been away dd?
We are pretty **** nowadays (have been for some time), and really do have to ditch this 'big club' delusion, we really do. Having said all that, I do like proper cup competitions and if we can get to Wembley in any competition or the play-offs I will cream my jeans.
Quite agree. And the first thing we have to do is downgrade this forum. It's still Championship quality, with occasional bursts of Premiership class. What we need is a real League One forum, where we gaze with wonderment at a fixture list that has us matched against the mighty Milton Keynes Dons, and get all tingly about a trip to the football factory that is Brentford.
If only there was a way to make it more crap on here.
Or not. I'm sticking with my delusions.

Have to agree. Sometimes I think some of these posters need to take a step back from the keyboard and really read these posts. Surely then they will realise what utter tosh this thread has turned into.
Could you please direct me to a tosh-free thread? Tosh is what we do best.

That's an easy one
He isn't a successful businessman!
Fifteen Love.
Bit of a soft point though. Nineteen just lobbed that one up to you. Maybe being useless is infectious.

But it does appear to be based on fact i.e. that Pinnacle did not stump up the full £500K as requested. It was also not denied by Tony Lynam.
Pinnacle have never claimed that they paid £500,000 up front. Nor has Fry. Only some sloppy reporting by the Daily Echo gave the impression that they did.
-
BTW, don't forget the bleedin obvious when asking the why? question.....
Our nickname is what exactly?
And that has it's links and origns from where exactly?
Perhaps if we dropped the nickname we would be more successful
smiley winkey ironic thingy;)
True enough, Phil - although saints are common in Sufi Islam. (In fact, they're a defining feature of Sufism). Unfortunately, the oil happened to be under the feet of a narrow, unpopular sect founded by a violent misogynist, whose followers were driven out of Mecca, Medina and the Arabian Peninsula by the Ottomans, and who were put back into power by Lawrence of Arabia.
Perhaps if we kept our nickname we'd avoid being taken over by the descendants of these charmers!
Always look on the bright side...

Would someone mind summarizing the past 600+ posts with a simple answer to the original question?
Thanks awfully.
And by the way, why the mystery in the first place? Seems odd to me that we know the identities of the multi-billionaires bidding for that termite heap down the road and others, and yet we're still here playing a guessing game with contracts all but signed.

Doesn't matter I love the really big tits the really big mature ones who love using emoticons especially.
Strange. I had you down as more of an ar$e man - our very own Sacha Baron Canteen, landing upside down on the forum.
-
Superb! There are certainly some tits on view with plenty of verbal thrown in.
I'm not here.

Not elevent and a totally different scenario - that was a question of ethics - Ron may have promised not to reveal any detail and promises should be hoored - I also cant believe MJ would have gotten very far realistically' date=' and that Ron is probably wrong i this case, but If you knew Ron, you would not questiopn his integrity.[/quote']
I’m sorry, I don’t understand.
You’re saying that the promise you made to Wilde, when you were one of the magnificent three, was that you would keep the contents of your conversation completely confidential. This is the same Wilde who, according to you, went to the other two amigos and told them SOS wanted him as chairman.
Yet despite Wilde’s telling you (by your own account) an out-and-out lie, you still felt honour-bound to keep absolutely secret the extraordinary piece of news that he was about to shack up with Lowe.
All this, despite another promise that you, as part of SOS, made to other forum members that you would report back what was said at the meetings with the three amigos and would keep everyone up to date on progress, if any.
I can’t be the only one at the time who thought that if you had just said something at the time, the howls of protest might have dissuaded Wilde from taking the decision that eventually wrecked the club.
Now I wouldn’t bring up this ancient history were it not for the fact that what’s at issue here, following Weston’s post, is the self-selection of know-alls who take it upon themselves to let it be known that they know something and we don’t - but that they will keep it to themselves.
I just don’t see how that’s ‘irrelevant’.
-
I think in this situation the idenity of the new owner is far more important than the new manager who as always will need to manage up as well as down. The quality and the reputation of our new man (woman) will set the tone for the long term future of the club followed by the manager and then the players.
Sounds like you've just experienced a Damascene conversion - because by the same token, the quality of the OLD chairman also set the tone for the long term future of the club. Hence we're where we are. Presumably then you'll now happily accept that Lowe had 'double relegation and ruin' stamped through him like Brighton rock.
Welcome to the dark side (and sorry to bring up what now seems ancient history).

I was not going to post any more until the "pinnacle" bid was signed sealed and delivered as I am happy with what they have to offer so far BUT this vendetta against Marc Jackson is totally unfair.
I and a few others know more than we are prepared to say. We know what went on, we know the money men and we know the reasons it has not happened so far for the "Jackson" Group. A lot of the issues are why some on the "Pinnacle" investors dropped out.
Many who know what it is all about are very supportive of Pinnacle. But we also know many of the issues.
I will take a back seat again and "Pinnacle" have our best wishes and support.
All we want is Saints to support in Div 1 next season.
Unless you know all the facts, shut up and just support the future of SFC
I suppose this shouldn't bother me, but it does.
You're saying that you and a few others know what 'really' happened; that those being critical of MJ can't possibly have known what happened; we should all shut up, including yourself (but not on this occasion); and you're not going to tell the many critics of MJ why they're wrong.
It makes me nervous. I remember all too well the tickings off initially issued by you and others to posters who criticised tommac. And look how that ended up. I also recall a certain trio on here who were told in advance by Wilde last year that he was going to get into bed with Lowe - but who thought it better to keep that to themselves.
A little (often partial) knowledge really is a dangerous thing.
Personally I prefer the leaks and misdirection of ITKs to the tut-tutting of ITKBINGTTYs.

Living near Brentford, this one.
To compare the present Saints team with the one that I saw play here pre- season two years ago
KJ's last game, I think, and one of Hammill's first. That wasn't a pretty match.

Like I pointed out many times.....
Everyone keeps going back to it being an MJ consortium and forgetting the other name.
Still, now it's all over I'm sure MJ'll be on Telly and the rest explaining why he planned to shut the Northam so he could build the petting zoo there and how we would have been playing like Arsenal in L1 so that it keeps everyone happy!
Oh and for anyone who is lucky enough to play golf or bump into MLT in Sainsbury's ask him off the record how easy it was for him and Tony and how highly he regards some of the people that sat across the table during their negotiations... I'd guess he won't say a word, but he may roll his eyebrows
Sometimes, a Poodle isn't very good as an Attack Dog, you find you need a Rottweiler on a leash
Phil,
I think you and your critics – or MJ’s to be more precise – are slightly talking past one another.
The small matter of trust is at the heart of this. It’s a rare and precious commodity, especially where Saints is concerned.
I know you’ve been on nodding terms with MJ for a while now, shared drinks in all the best dives in Dubai, and have got to know someone who perhaps doesn’t conform to the cartoon figure that MJ became through his previous dabblings around the boardrooms of Southampton and Bournemouth.
In both those previous instances, MJ’s involvement was at best distracting – and at worst, made us look like a football club with all the panache and ambition of Southern League (Maidstone Division) triers.
I don’t doubt for a second that MJ had the best of intentions, and together with Green and others, worked his socks off to try and rescue the club. As you and a few others have rightly pointed out, we internet warriors hardly have the high moral ground on this, sitting comfortably behind our keyboards and hoping for some unnamed, loaded saviour to hove in over the horizon.
But that’s not really the issue.
Suppose MJ/Green et al had a bid that was higher than Pinnacle/MLT’s. Leaving aside Fry for the moment, whom do you think the majority on here and among Saints fans generally would prefer?
Even with the fantastic track records and commitment to Saints of Terry Paine and Mick Channon, no one since Ted Bates himself has earned the degree of trust that MLT has – in fact, I’d challenge you to find any player anywhere who’d surpass MLT’s combination of breathtaking talent and one-club loyalty.
It’s not just that no one can compete with that – it’s that people have been genuinely fearful that MJ would somehow trip up the MLT-supported bid. And frankly it’s a fear with a good grounding in past failures and bloopers.
MJ may be an all-round good egg. He may even be a reformed character, having learned his lesson from staring at his blazing fingers. But you can’t just walk away from your past mistakes as if they never happened. MJ could never have the degree of trust enjoyed by MLT. As far as trust is concerned they don’t even exist on the same planet.
And this is not just about the recent past. Imagine a ‘sliding doors’ world in which you could skip between a universe in which MJ’/Green’s bid won, and the real one. What would happen when things get sticky – a few bad performances, a struggling manager, etc? Who will get the more time to put things right? Who, in other words, would be the best bet for building the club in the way that Ted Bates did all those years ago?
FWIW, I appreciate all the work that MJ and others put into this, but I’m glad he didn’t win.
By the way, I'm curious to hear your take on the Fry problem at some point...

I think you missed my point. As for the money (which I didn't comment on), we'll see.
