The basic five stages in relation to bereavement are Denial (They can’t be dead), Anger (I can’t believe they're dead), Bargaining (If only I had stayed they might not have died), Depression (What is the point of carrying on?) and finally Acceptance (I’ve lost them but can move on). I sense that the skates are working their way through this sequence at different rates: some of the brighter ones have reached the final stage already but many of the dimmer ones remain at the first two
