^This. I have followed this thread avidly for some time as a lurker, but only recently been spurred into registering, and then becoming a full member, as a consequence of the unremittting stream of b*llox emanating from Skateville. They can't dodge bullets for ever, but they've dodged so many over the years that they've begun to believe their own BS as they confuse charity with obligation. They really do believe they are entitled to a permanent seat at the top table and no-one here has been able to convince them otherwise, so hopefully they are on the last of their charmed lives now. COYHMRC!

For going bust the second time in two years? Surely to goodness thats got to attract more than a 10 point penalty?

'Now, if I give you this tenner, you won't spend it on living beyond your means and greedy footballers, will you?'

I see what you did there

They've forfeited any goodwill from this end of the M27 by sticking two fingers up at everyone for years so its been a long time coming. They can't dodge bullets forever, and you can't blame us for thinking that maybe this time they've gambled their future once too often

If I've understood correctly, I think the problem is that they didn't *buy* anything, at least not outright. They had it from Chinnie on some kind of HP agreement & couldn't keep up the repayments so now Chinnie is trying to foreclose on them

Regarding Cameron's outburst in support of the skates this afternoon: https://email.number10.gov.uk/ "Dear Mr Cameron, In PMQT today (1/2/12), Penny Mordaunt urged you to direct HMRC to discuss with Portsmouth FC how best to keep the club afloat (BBC). As a taxpayer, I must say that I am appalled to see you as Prime Minister taking this position. Portsmouth FC has a long history of going bust and most recently (2010) cost the taxpayer around 40m in taxes in their last insolvency event. HMRC quite rightly issued a winding up petition to protect the taxpayer from further losses. I cannot help but feel that your unqualified and explicit endorsement of Portsmouth's long legacy of tax evasion is at best ill-advised and can only act as a bad example for other commercial entities who may wish to evade their tax responsibilities. Your sincerely, {my name}"

Don't think this has been posted yet - skate lineup for February 2012 onwards from the Echo's transfer window watch: https://twitter.com/#!/alan_ridge/status/164086727693180929/photo/1/large

Dunno about the Sh*thawks, but regarding Saints - and just for starters: Any kind of workable plan. Integrity. A large fanbase. A solvent backer. I could go on...

In my enthusiasm to explain some of the differences between we & the skates, I produced a duplicate post. This really isn't good for my blood pressure

Correct. Compare, by way of contrast, Billy Sharpe's statement: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16794210.stm "I am delighted that I am here and joining a really big club with a strong squad of players, hopefully I can be a cog in the team that helps get this huge club into the Premier League"

Maybe we should regard this as a late Christmas present
