Give it to Ron Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 has just been released from coaching Liverpool academy after a 'restructure' we could do far worse by re-employing him as he did an excellent job here before. Well that is if we have a club in the FL next year.
Nadia Sllim Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 He was good but the club needs a whole new coaching/scouting set up and hopefully one that will stay in place together for a few years. We need to go forward from now on. Henderson perhaps might be worth keeping. Who are Keegans team? Could we see Chris Mcmenemy back at SMS? Saint Nobby Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 I'd love to see Malcolm Elias back at Southampton - I'd love it - I'd really love it! Seriously, he did a great job with us and I'm sure he could again. I had the opportunity to watch him in action a few times at Staplewood and I was very impressed with the way he spoke to the nippers.
Lets B Avenue Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 The chances of getting kids of Theo's ilk signing for a Division 3 club are remote. Re-employing Malcolm Elias should be top on Pinnacle's list of things to do.

This could well assist the "5year plan" as we wont be playing his new signings this or next year because that worked so well didn't it. But by his mere presence and signs of the clubs revival could well be an attraction.

Lets B Avenue Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 Well if it did, then surely it needs to coincide with the hoped-for revival. I'm sorry Mike, do you not want him back for some reason?

Mr Nice Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 The Academy started to go backwards when we where relegated as we then lost our PL status. Saints are now fighting it out with Reading and Cardiff academys to get players. Going down another league has made that even worse.

I'm sorry Mike, do you not want him back for some reason? nothing against him personally, just think it is over simplfying the issue regarding the academy. i just doubt we will attract any better young players until the club as a whole is on the way up. i am a main committee member for one of the biggest football (non league) clubs in hampshire and at present our youth players are as likely to be tapped up by the skates and reading as they are saints. parents always believe their sons are better than what they are and will gamble on them making it at a premiership club if the offer is there, the saints have a lot of catching up to do at grass roots level after the cuts in the community department after relgation from the premiership
Lets B Avenue Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 Agreed. But surely Pinnacle are not just throwing money at the 1st team and by re-building the academy, starting with the return of the most successful head of recruitment we have had in recent years, would be part of that. In answer to StJay, they were here together and Prost left shortly after Elias went to Liverpool.
Edward Tattsyrup Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 The academy started going backwards when Huw, Georges & Malcolm left. They were never replaced with comparable quality. I believe that Huw is now at Fulham as Academy Director, it would not surprise me to see Malcom join him. Chances of coming back to Southampton imo are zero (unfortunately)

Wildgoose Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 As soon as I saw Liverpool were releasing Elias I had the same thought about him coming back. Would be excellent, but is he 'too good' for us now we are League 1?

saint_ed Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 Malcolm was one of the best things to happen to Saints in the last few years.
Edward Tattsyrup Posted 20 June, 2009 Share Posted 20 June, 2009 Guys, seriously, Saints would be bottom of Malcolm's list, we have to move on. We are now a league one club, the chances of attracting major talent is almost zero. Remember, I think it was Malcolm & Huw who enticed Theo from Swindon. We are in the same league now, we arenot a major player on the academy scene anymore. To me the future of Saints academy are guys like Dave Puckett, the guy bleeds Red & White. I cant think of anybody more appropriate to step up to the senoir academy role than Dave. However, maybe I am biased, I think Dave is as much Saints as Tiss. Different level granted. Well that is if we have a club in the FL next year. IMHO Malcolm Ellias and Huw Jennings were responsible for the success of the likes of Theo,Gareth Bale,Drew,Adam and a few others. Huw and Malcolm both left I think roughly the same time. Huw ended up at the F.A.
