chrisobee Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 Hants team : MJ Lumb, JHK Adams, JM Vince, SM Ervine, CC Benham, LA Dawson, AD Mascarenhas*, TG Burrowsâ , H Riazuddin, Imran Tahir, DA Griffiths  Gloucs won toss and are batting, currently 164/5 off 36 overs.
chrisobee Posted 25 August, 2009 Author Posted 25 August, 2009 Just realised it is live on Sky Sports ! Tuned in just in time to see Griffiths take his 3rd wicket, 3/22 off 6.1 overs. Good stuff.
chrisobee Posted 25 August, 2009 Author Posted 25 August, 2009 184/8 off 40 overs. Excellent figures for Griffiths especially as he was bowling at the death, 4/29 off 8 overs.
chrisobee Posted 25 August, 2009 Author Posted 25 August, 2009 Hants 185/7, Adams in great form with 79 off 91 balls. Ervine 37 off 39 and Dimi 28 not out off 20 balls made sure we got home with 17 balls to spare
Leicestersaint Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 I watched it on Sky and thought generally we did very well. Griffiths bowling was superb and our fielding was pretty good. Lumb, Benham and dawson all gave their wickets away rather too easily but Adams and the others did well. We could do very well in this competition if we put our minds to it.

Last year of the Pro 40 so would be nice to win it though I'd rather we stayed in CC1 !
Leicestersaint Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 i went i drank too much did we win? we did - does it all come flooding back?!
keithd Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 seem to recall something about Dimi steadying a wobbly middle order...hitting a four or two...a six thrown in i spent £30. i got in for nothing and i took 8 cans in. WTF was i doing?....admitedly i only had 3 of the cans, but can't believe i still managed to spend that much on beer. oh a £7 burger too....
bungle Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Saw a bit on TV before the Saints game. Griffiths doesn't usually bowl in one day games does he? But an excellent performance from him. I am going along tomorrow and Friday.

But an excellent performance from him. I am going along tomorrow and Friday. Well I think with this being the last Pro 40 tourney, at least for now, it's a good chance to give younger players experience. I think now though Griffiths will stay in the team and may even get selected for the 4 day games.
stevegrant Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Apparently Dawson will replace Carberry at the top of the order against Somerset...
Weston Saint Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Apparently Dawson will replace Carberry at the top of the order against Somerset...That is what I heard last night as well. Also spoke to Nick Pothas. He should be back tomorrow but if the groin goes again that will be it for the season

Weston Saint Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Well he will need to do better than last night in the Pro40! I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and asked if next season he was going to develop into a batsman who could bowl or a bowler who could bat. He said definately a batsman. He opened against the University earlier in the season. Looks like they are going to open him to step up his development.

I think now though Griffiths will stay in the team and may even get selected for the 4 day games. http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/stunning-performance-from-griffiths/ After a good season in Hampshireâs Second XI, David Griffithsâ selection for the Pro40 team to play Gloucestershire Gladiators proved a sound move for the Hawks as he came away with a 4 wicket haul and a Man of the Match Award. At speeds touching 89 miles per hour he bowled first Kadeer Ali for 8 and then castled Alex Gidman for two with a beautiful yorker. In his death spell his skill with the yorker came into play again as he trapped Steve Adshead lbw and then clean bowled key Gloucestershire batsman Chris Taylor for 44 to effectively wrap up the visitorsâ chances of posting a really competitive score. Speaking after the game, captain Dimi Mascarenhas was full of praise for Griffithsâ performance. âJust brilliantâ he told me. âHeâs come into the Championship side and done exceptionally well. Heâs bowled with good pace in good areas and weâre very pleased with him. And today â just awesome. Those first couple of wickets, and then to bowl brilliantly at the death. Heâs one to watch for the future, thatâs for sure.â When accepting his Man of the Match Award, Griffiths gave much of the credit to the Hampshire coaching team, and to Mascarenhas, saying he was just doing what his captain told him to. This made Dimi laugh. âWell obviously Iâve got a bit more experience than him, but just because I tell him to do something doesnât mean he can automatically do it! He runs in and he knows where to put the ball and thatâs exactly what heâs doing. Everyone says âbowl a yorkerâ but itâs not an easy thing to do, and he did it brilliantly. Iâm sure after that performance heâs cemented his place for the next game.â And what did the man himself have to say about it all? âChalky [Giles White]âs given me the opportunity, with Corky not being here, and Iâve taken it and put another thought in Chalkyâs mind that I can play in all forms of cricket. The first wicket was great because it sets the tone for the whole innings, but I enjoyed all four of them. I try to play like that every game, but it doesnât always come off. All the bowlers bowled well to keep them to 184 and Jimmy finished it off with an unbelievable batting display.â Griffiths was just one of a handful of young players in the winning side. âTheyâre there because theyâre good enoughâ Dimi said. âWeâre not just going to give anyone a game, they have to earn it. Those guys definitely deserve it, and anyway, theyâve proved it.â So where now in the Pro40 for the team as a whole? âWeâve just got to keep winning. Somerset havenât lost yet and we have to play them, so if we beat Somerset and beat everybody else weâll win the trophy.â I comment that he makes it sound very easy. âItâs definitely not that easyâ Dimi laughs. âYou know cricket!â
