Hareth Posted 9 January, 2010 Share Posted 9 January, 2010 Hey everyone, thought I'd take this opportunity to see what you guys think of my band, 'Spiral Asylum'. So far the only full time members are myself and my bassist/co-songwriter Ross (who does rhythm guitar on a few of the tracks too, and lead vocals on 'The Tragic Tale ...'). We recorded our debut EP last summer in Manchester, its called 'Kings & Fools' and just recently finished recording a few demo and live tracks (hence, not exactly studio quality) in Dubai. We're going to start gigging and touring next year around the UK when we're in the same city and we have a full time drummer and another guitarist to play rhythm live. You can hear the tracks at the following URLs (note that the first three are only demo quality and the last 6 are the ones we did in the studio): MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/spiralasylum Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Spiral-Asylum/118991279778?ref=ts The myspace has lyrics up if anyone's interested (although the format they present them in is admittedly a little off-putting) and additional information is up there, as well as on Facebook (should also have the tunes up on youtube soon, with a view of making a music video fairly soon). Any feedback is appreciated, even constructive criticism. Cheers!

hamster Posted 9 January, 2010 Share Posted 9 January, 2010 I do like 'The Tragic tale of Arthur Dale', a jaunty little number. Will you be playing in Southampton?
Hareth Posted 10 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2010 I do like 'The Tragic tale of Arthur Dale', a jaunty little number. Will you be playing in Southampton? Ideally we'd be doing gigs weekly or every fornight in the north (one offs down south) and a few intensive tours, and I'd love to include Southampton. I should be playing some acoustic sets before then though around the south, im based in Oxford at the moment.
hamster Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Ah Oxford, have you played the Wheatsheaf yet? Great pub.
Hareth Posted 10 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2010 No i havent really done much around yet, haven't felt comfortable with my acoustic repertoire until now - should have a set of about 8 originals and maybe 3/4 covers ready by the end of the month - I looked it up on myspace tho looks like a great venue. Do you know of many other good ones? I was originally hoping to form a heavy blues cover band (sort of like the early led zep tunes) but it didnt really materialise yet so I may as well just do it on my own! I got my tips from the forum when I was up there for a weekend and couldn't find much info on the net. I see that you've been a member on here for a while so you may already know that we have in our midst a handful of musicians, some apparently quite good. Only my opinion of course, but I think the local scene in Southampton is pretty impressive but further afield (ie Oxford, Salisbury, Reading etc) I'd post a query on here. Good luck with it all and if you ever need a roady for your tour of Japan count me in as long as I don;t have to eat dolphin, whale yes, dolphun no way jose.
Verbal Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 I liked The Deputy - very 'Ventures' sounding - and Revolution Song (which is really good but could do with some tightening up here and there, i think) sounds like it could only come of Manchester. If you're up that way and looking to get a video made later this year I know some people who might be able to help you out.

Hey really glad with your reply man, oasis and the stone roses are a huge influences of ours. I'd agree with the tightening up, we had little time in the studio to get all 6 tracks done (5 days) but we wanted to make a start at least get those tracks down! We're hoping that it'll get a bit looser/more natural once we get in a full time drummer (but Angelos, our session drummer was really fantastic seeing as we only rehearsed 3 times with him before he went in and laid down the drums). I'll definately be in touch though since we've decided to base the band in Manchester or the surrounding area as of next year. We're thinking of commissioning someone to do a really well animated video for the first release but it'd be ideal to have someone get some live/live-action footage of us. Cheers again! And a tour of Japan would be immense (a whale of a time... ho ho). Reminds me, haha I remember someone telling me that they were in Japan and were offered this glass of a thick white goo at a restaurant. Once they'd finished it, they asked 'what was that? it wasn't very nice' - it turned out to be a whale's love juice! I really don't know who thought that recipe would be a good idea.
