Interesting piece by Paul fletcher on the bbc. A kind of a state of the season so far. He has this to say about saints

I asked in a blog at the start of the season whether anybody could stop Southampton. I guess I had not factored in the Saints themselves. The unexpected sacking of manager Alan Pardew at the end of August, days after they thrashed Bristol Rovers 4-0, undoubtedly resulted in a destabilising period for the club. They are currently two points off the play-offs but I still believe they have the ammunition to do some serious damage.

We've suffered some massive setbacks to our promotion campaign, no doubt. It's handy then that no other team has found any true form, and no other team has the backing we do in the January transfer window.

We may be off track at the moment but I can still see us demonstrating some automatic promotion winning form after January.

Let's hope it plans out nicely from now on.

Well I thought it was quite encouraging the three lower leagues all look very close this season this of course means we're still in with a chance if we can put a good run together. The only problem with such a close league though is a couple of bad results can see a team slip down the league in an alarming manner. Should be a fun ride in the second half of the season.

He makes out that the 4-0 win over Rovers was the story of the season up until that point - when that is far from the truth.

We were pretty uninspriring before and stumbled to a 4-0 win somehow, unfortunately we have been pretty uninspiring since, albeit that Adkins has managed to get us picking up points regardless of looking numb infront of goal.

We need someone on scoring form and soon or else we will be left behind.
