saint_bert Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 The last time the Anti-Lowe protests happened, how were they arranged? Were they just spare of the moment things? Or were they organised on the internet on websites like the old forum? Not that im considering starting one of course, just interested

1576 Posted 27 October, 2008 Share Posted 27 October, 2008 It depends what you mean by the last time! If you mean this one http://www.sthu.co.uk/ then it took up quite a lot of time and to be fair not a lot happened apart from the fly-by. Three of us had the idea about people who were not going to re-new season tickets all joining forces to show the club what they would be missing out on. It was mainly put about on the old Saints Forever and Ugly Inside sites to see what kind of interest there was. Then there was an idea of the fly-by and we tried to see if it was something people would be prepared to contribute to. To our surprise an exiled Saints fan Rob (posts on here as Offix) contacted us to say he was prepared to pay for the whole thing so it sort of took off from there (pun intended). We then spent a fair amount of time talking to the press (local and national) as well as giving out leaflets at I think 3 games (was especially entertaining at 2 of them Cardiff and Millwall) Did it make any difference? your guess is as good as mine. At the time maybe it helped Wilde make up his mind that enough people cared about the club that he may have some support. As it turns out Lowe went that summer and the whole thing just sort of fizzled out. At the time the three of us were motivated enough to do it now 2 of us are not going one still does and the day Lowe goes is the day I'll return as I'm sure will others. The website still works if your interested, the pics are still there http://www.sthu.co.uk/

I suspect that quite a lot of the people who were vocally anti-Lowe in that time will now have stopped going. Best of luck though.

I shall sing the songs et al if and when they start but I simply do not have the time, know how or backing to start any kind of boycott/protest

I shall sing the songs et al if and when they start but I simply do not have the time, know how or backing to start any kind of boycott/protest It would either have to be a fairly dramatic protest, e.g. pitch invasions etc, but we don't tend to do that sort of thing, or a mass stayaway. Chanting at games won't achieve a lot, just an excuse to blame the "lunatic fringe". It is more likely that a continued drop in crowds will be effective eventually, but with 9,000 season ticket holders, it will be a while before the drop is that notable. We'll probably still get crowds of 13,000 - 14,000 as we stumble to League 1, doubt it will register that much with Lowe. Next season's ST renewals should be a lot lower.
