cellone Posted 5 September, 2017 Author Posted 5 September, 2017 An Agent's View: Has Power in Premier League Swung from Players to Clubs? An interesting article and talks about VvD as well as others. Also mentions the balance between clubs and players and this summer has put it on more of an even keel.
Colinjb Posted 5 September, 2017 Posted 5 September, 2017 Surprised no-one has commented on this, was a good read. The deregulation in the industry really has made it a free-for-all.

Interesting to see the outside perspective on us from within the game - but we will certainly have altered that perception this summer. Agents will no longer be able to convince the players that they can just ****** all over the clubs and do what they like. (with Saints at least). can only be a good thing for us. reading this makes it clear to me that if we had have sold him, players and agents would just keep doing this to us again and again, so kudos to the club for standing firm.
cellone Posted 5 September, 2017 Author Posted 5 September, 2017 It does seem as though Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool (albeit on both sides for the latter) have rocked the boat. The dealing of January and next summer will tell us if indeed there is a constant shift. I think a shift in balance towards an even scale is vital for the future. Whether that is possible with the amount of fingers in each pie is something we will see.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 6 September, 2017 Posted 6 September, 2017 It could be that this is a temporary thing as the market is still adjusting to the influx of new TV money. At the moment transfer fees are inflated but player wages are still similar to what they were. Once contracts start getting renewed at inflated levels, clubs will have less in the bank to feel they can keep hold of unhappy players
