Give it to Ron Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 Does it really matter at professional level? I have often thought that we chose to kick the wrong way so that in the second half the away team kick towards their own fans - sort of suck the ball up our end. No facts or figures to back this up but wondered what everyone else thought? With Swansea selling their allocation will this give them more impetus second half? saint_bert Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 There must be something in it Liverpool second half shoot to the Kop Man United- Stretford end Newcastle-Gallowgate So it must surely have some psycilogical effect?
Huffton Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 They like to kick towards us in the Chapel in the second half as by then were usually all asleep and we need a goal to wake us up. Seriously does it make much difference? These are proffesional footballers, I'm sure they are far too concentrated on the game to even notice what the crowd are singing, never mind where its coming from... We seem to have at least one of these threads a week, usually just turns into an 'i'm a better fan than you' type of thing. Boringggggg

Boringggggg You sleep in the Chapel as well....I bet you dont get as many tartan blankets and thermos flasks as us uber fans in the Kingsland. thefuriousb Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 At present very few sides bring anywhere near enough to "suck the ball in the net". also, the home fans in the Northam rarely stretch to covering the whole goal, so likewise would not do a similar job if we kicked that way. Saying all this, there is ntohing stopping fans sucking the ball in 3 times in the first half, making the second one academic. Its not like we kick to the Chapel in both halves. Give it to Ron Posted 28 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 January, 2009 The usual factors are the wind or sun in the keepers eye but dont think either are a factor at SMS so wondered why we always seem to defend the Northam second half

Ponty Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 There's no advantage to kicking towards the noisier Northam as the away fans share the same end. That's pretty obvious.
Huffton Posted 28 January, 2009 Share Posted 28 January, 2009 On a more serious note, I think its more of a tradition form the days at the Dell. We always used to kick towards the Archers first half if we won the toss, which I'm pretty sure meant the sun was in the oppositions faces more than ours. With the Chapel being the 'home end' like the Milton was it has just stuck.
OldNick Posted 29 January, 2009 Share Posted 29 January, 2009 it is typical saints.Giving the advantage to the opposition that they kick to thier fans second half which gives them a boost. Perhaps it would have been better if the no4rtham did move to the chapel and then we would have Kop like end for the team to play to. Rupert close the Northam and get us up the Chapel so we can then have a proper home section that sings.
