Leicestersaint Posted 19 August, 2008 Share Posted 19 August, 2008 How is the weather looking - any chance of some play today? It is blowing a gale in Leicester!
NI76 Posted 19 August, 2008 Share Posted 19 August, 2008 Drove past Rose Bowl about half an hour ago. Skies were very grey and there was light drizzle. Prospects for much, if any, play not looking good but fingers crossed it improves as we just seem to have hit a bit of form.
Leicestersaint Posted 19 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 19 August, 2008 The forecast looks poor for today - it might brighten a bit later on in the afternoon - let's hope so!
manji Posted 19 August, 2008 Share Posted 19 August, 2008 Pitch inspection at 12.30.I think I may risk it and mosey over there tomorrow...........
Leicestersaint Posted 19 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 19 August, 2008 Play now scheduled for1.30 pm. The forecast for Wednesday looks good. We need to win this match to increase our chances of staying up - the chances look a lot better than they did 5 weeks ago.
NI76 Posted 19 August, 2008 Share Posted 19 August, 2008 Anyone know why Brown not playing? He's been our best batsmen in the championship this year and last so surely can't have been dropped? Also find is strange that Ervine has been left out of the recent one-dayers but is back for this game. Would have thought he was far more suited to one day games as opposed to the championship. Leicestersaint Posted 20 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 20 August, 2008 Looking for a good score from Dawson - a very good prospect - he's got to ten so far!
stevegrant Posted 20 August, 2008 Share Posted 20 August, 2008 Lumb gone for 107. 226/6 from 91.1 overs. Can we get another 74 runs to give us 3 batting points? Ervine looks in surprisingly good nick, currently unbeaten on 40, and Mascarenhas has just joined him at the crease.
Leicestersaint Posted 20 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 20 August, 2008 316 all out - not too bad.
corsacar saint Posted 20 August, 2008 Share Posted 20 August, 2008 Just been up, at last Lumb has come to the party. Ervine and Mascharenas also batted well. Very impressed by Liam Dawson, he looks to have a wonderful temperment.[ I am sure he is a future England player].

Leicestersaint Posted 21 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 21 August, 2008 Well we're letting them get away - the bowling must be dreadful or is it lots more dropped catches?
georgeismyname Posted 21 August, 2008 Share Posted 21 August, 2008 Does anyone know why Dimi didn't bowl himself after lunch today? He was either injured or stupid IMO. He was our most accurate and economical bowler (as always) and I feel he would have been our best bet to open with the new ball with Tomo. Balcs was shocking today. Leicestersaint Posted 22 August, 2008 Author Share Posted 22 August, 2008 They are now over 100 ahead - we could lose this if we're not careful.
stevegrant Posted 22 August, 2008 Share Posted 22 August, 2008 They are now over 100 ahead - we could lose this if we're not careful. Not much danger of that, to be honest, particularly if Ian Blackwell and the number 9 are hanging around for a 100-run partnership. We've got 11 overs to take 2 wickets to get us the third bowling point and then it'll be played out as a comfortable draw IMO.

stevegrant Posted 22 August, 2008 Share Posted 22 August, 2008 Match drawn. We'd got to 196/1, with Carberry and Lumb unbeaten on 88 and 83 respectively. 10 points for us, 12 for Somerset. A couple of other games going on in division 1, but they've got an extra day to play. However, the first innings have been completed in both so we know the bonus point scores already, which leaves the table looking like this: 1. Somerset 12 146 2. Nottinghamshire 12 137 3. Durham 11 136 4. Lancashire 11.5 126 5. Sussex 11.5 121 6. Hampshire 13 121 7. Yorkshire 12 116 8. Kent 11.5 119 9. Surrey 11.5 102 Barring a lot of rain tomorrow, Kent will beat Lancashire, and Surrey will probably draw with Sussex, which would put Kent onto 133, Lancashire unchanged on 126, Surrey on 106 and Sussex on 125. We play Durham next week, but the key game starts on 9th September at the Oval against Surrey. Interestingly, Surrey only have a day's break before that game, as they have a game against Kent starting on the 4th.
