Losing your memory...

Just something to run past some of the more informative on here.....and looking for advice, perhaps ther are persons of similar ilk on here.

Iv'e just started a new job,in a industry that i am well versed in,i was asked to go back to a previous employer because they thought fairly highly of me....so i have returned.

Problem is, my memory of how to do things and the new routine is completely bypassing me.

I am struggling to retain information and recall what used to be second nature to me.

Simple instruction, as getting phone numbers, and remembering things that were common practice are becoming more difficult to retain.

I had been in the industry at a high level, and for some years, before taking a sabatical and exploring a new vocation,......I am truly struggling at the basics, imo. My employer may not see that as the case....but i think i can perform at a better level,i know i am underperforming.

I'm 45 now and i wonder if that has a effect on it.

It is so frustrating.Knowing how capable i was...but now i feel a fraction of what my capabilities are.

I have to write things down, just to remember.

If it's any consolation when my company three times in four years switched aircraft I had previously flown at the base I was at, I found it quite difficult to switch between types despite the familiarity, but after a shortish period I was very comfortable again. I was in late thirties early forties at the time. Subsequently I retired and after three years was tempted back part time and at 63 had no problem converting to a tricky aircraft I had never flown before.

If you are struggling take advice from a specialist. It could be that the old familiarity and comfort zone is yet to kick in.
