Good job has scored twice at Everton for Saints - for a minute I thought you meant on his full Prem debut in August 2012, but he also scored there in December 2013. So basically we should sell him to Everton.

You can be too lightweight despite being aggressive. Getting leaned off the ball a lot and getting upset and whacking someone are two bad things, he's got both. Gaston works fairly hard, but he isn't quick or strong enough to get away from players and he's rarely successful running with the ball, which he does all the time. He seems to take too long to see options and his first touch when facing away from goal almost always leads to him losing the ball - mainly because he always does the same thing and it rarely works. I think his build is against him - he's relatively tall and slight, so he doesn't have the low centre of gravity to make knocking him off the ball more difficult, nor the benefit of having strength from his size to hold people off either. I think the only way he's going to succeed in the Prem is to bulk up and work on playing with his back to goal a bit more. He's usually ok with a bit of time and space, though even then some of his through balls lack conviction or accuracy.

Juanmi has been here 2 months and barely been on the pitch, Gaston is in his 3rd year and has a pile of Prem matches under his belt and is about one step further on. I know which of them I'd expect to be a successful Premier League player in 2 years' time.

Carragher's "no disrespect to Southampton but Liverpool should be beating them" before kick-off had me just a tad annoyed, given that they only came above us last season due to Kevin Friend's refusal to give us obvious penalties. Liverpool actually look worse under Klopp than they did under Rodgers at the moment, they look knackered.

I hope so, or Liverpool should have had a penalty for Fonte on Benteke in injury time...
-
Nope, but we did concede, which reduces the likelihood of a defender getting MotM.
-
There was some debate about whether Bertrand should have been doing that himself. Without watching again to see if there was an overlapping runner which would have excused Bertrand completely, I wouldn't like to say.

Hardly a surprise that in matches where we were playing with only one first choice defender and one first choice DM from the previous season that we'd look disorganised at the back - Cedric was completely exposed by the midfield just as the rest of the defence was. I was more surprised that it didn't happen last season than that it did this. Bertrand getting fit, signing Van Dijk and Romeu, Wanyama coming back, and JWP starting to look like he deserves to start have all helped us get back some of the stability. If Cedric could go a couple of weeks without smashing his head open (three times and counting so far this season) that might not be a bad thing either.
-
We'll start with Stekelenburg if he's fit, which is no reflection on Gazzaniga other than "he isn't as good as Stekelenburg".

Music after goals is pointless. Music walking onto the pitch at least helps with global branding and timekeeping for worldwide broadcasts, but they could still do without all that palaver and handshake nonsense without negatively affecting the "matchday experience" in any way.
-
Not to mention Vlaar for them... to resolve that he signed Richards, who no-one in the Prem has touched with a bargepole because they all know he can't take instruction.

With the Rodriguez/Long injuries and Mane's suspension we're going to have to rely on Pelle playing again unless we pick one of the U21s. Gaston's played himself into contention, but I think Juanmi for Rodriguez from my original choice seems most likely. --------Stekelenburg Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand -------Wanyama Clasie Ward-Prowse Davis Juanmi ---------------Pelle

Didn't think there was much difference either half, set up to play on the counter and only had one decent spell of passing with any kind of penetration in the whole game. Which was fine, it wasn't what we were trying to do. Liverpool have more to worry about than we do after that, they don't look like scoring more than one a game ever.
-
They probably drew them all 1-1.
-
If he hadn't missed the sitter and we hadn't conceded from a cross he'd have been comfortably the best performer - as it was he was just in the upper half with 13 others.
-
I thought Clasie did pretty well as well, got a lot of touches in traffic, showed strength to hold people off, got around closing down and played a couple of decent passes forward too. Much better than last week.
-
Our first free kick was in the 18th minute for offside, the second in the 20th for a foul on Mane.
-
It wasn't already in, but it might have gone in without Mane's finish.
-
Coutinho was about 50% more effective than he was.
-
Did well to take his chance, which he only got due to injury to Long and Rodriguez, but I think we're more likely to start with Juanmi than Ramirez in the hole on Wednesday. Made me laugh when the commentator said he'd been out for a long time with injury. Er, not this season he hasn't.
-
He's an absolute joke - 10 minutes at Spurs inheriting someone else's team, refuses all kinds of offers that were all above his level thanks to a ridiculous sense of self-importance, inherits a side which Paul Lambert had made absolutely awfully negative and which literally ANYONE could have improved just by letting them not defend every second of every match with 11 men, and took him 6 months to make them actually worse at winning matches. We'd have stuffed them with Sherwood in charge, and assuming they don't appoint someone before Wednesday we'll beat them comfortably without him. Even if they get someone in we should still have enough for them.
-
I thought Pelle did pretty well with some crappy service today and without the support he usually has. Looked a little bit jaded but not as much as Liverpool's entire team.
-
I thought he was a load of toss.
-
They were about 65-35% in the first half hour and we set up to absorb and play on the counter, so doesn't surprise me at all.
