  1. We did sign some players with experience including Cabellero, AMN, DCC and Aribo, but paying for a 30 year old feels out of kilter with the `strategy' they talked about.
  2. he was linked to us in the Telegraph article about Alcaraz https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/01/03/southampton-target-argentinian-talent-carlos-charly-alcaraz/
  3. hard to argue with that, but have to say that Lyanco is poor, DCC was terrible last night and if he can't get in our side you have to wonder how he performs in training, Salisu may want to depart, ABK looked like he got a nasty knee injury - I thought cruciate when I first saw it, Bednarek wont want to come back and Stephens, well...
  4. He looks a proper player to me. However, I am a sucker for fast forwards that have ball skills and can dribble (Henry Camara is still one of my favourite Saints players) - and they often don't put the ball in the back of the net enough. One thing I will say about Moffi, is I did see hi trying to make a few runs on the shoulder of defenders. His team mates never looked for him though, so he was never found. I watch Che and he stands still most of the time, which annoys me, so maybe there is something in there that could help us. I may watch one more game, but boy is it dull.
  5. If he has fallen out with the manager, then Villarreal might consider a loan with a view to a permanent move, just to get him out of the building. And that would suit us well. Whether it would suit him, I am not sure. The fact we are signing Orsic, to play on the left, which is where Jackson has played, suggests that move is just `agent' placed.
  6. So what exactly was it that first attracted you to the £3m a year job at Southampton FC?
  7. On the basis of those two games and his youtube highlights, I wouldn't be willing to stick my neck out and say he will improve us. He's a little hamstrung by the shit side he plays in, but he may have to feed off scraps here too, so if we are hoping to get a guy that makes things happen through his individual pace, power and dribbling, as Broja did for us last season, then I don't think he's the man. If we are looking for a guy that just puts the ball in the back of the net when he get a chance, then he might be, but those games certainly didn't reveal it. Personally, I think Beto, mentioned earlier on this thread, looks a better player, and one that has the ability to turn and power away from a defender (Nicholas Jackson might offer that too by the way) - which is something I'd like us to have up front. He only signed on a permanent with Udinese in the summer though, so they wont be looking to sell - and thus would make that deal tough, I suspect.
  8. I think Edozie offers something decent already on the left (he didn't last night when he came on, but he was decent at Fulham). We badly need a right winger. I thought I saw clips of him playing on the right side in the youtube videos.
  9. I've been suggesting Jackson for some time, so I am glad we are linked, but the idea that we spent £27m on him is frankly ludicrous. He is young and has potential (yeah, I know), but no way is he worth that outlay.
  10. Does Orsic usually play as an out an out winger/attacker or more or a genuine left/right midfielder?
  11. 1-0 down, not working, ABK gets injured. Perfect opportunity to move to a flat back four, but no. Sticks with it. I really want to give NJ a fair crack of the whip, but he's making it impossible.
  12. I'm so annoyed I could continue arguing with you or anyone all night, but agreeing to disagree makes the most sense. Did ABK do his cruciate? Looked a nasty slip.
  13. The Saints fans have given up. Not much to shout about mind.
  14. He had a very decent game. Maybe 7 or 8 out of ten. Shame everything else was turd.
  15. Yes. But it wasn't just once, almost every pass short or long was fucking crap. Lyanco error cost us, but DCC was even worse.
  16. Cheers. I was fuming for a while after. No less so now, but for different reasons. I've tried to stay positive, but I'm resigned to relegation. Five at the back is shit.
  17. Perhaps predictably, there wasn't much of that in the chapel end, except at half and fulltime. Not much in the way of any noise at all though. Felt somewhat out of place even shouting 'come on saints' when we won a corner. It was one fucking nil for Christ sake. Were utter shit, but at least shout. I won't be going in that end again. Only went there as forest supporting brother in law was with me. First away win in prem since 1999.
  18. He was horrendous with the ball tonight. As bad as you can be.
  19. Just back from game. How bad was Che's miss? I was at t'other end. Looked like he should have buried it with ease. As bad as a keeper howler when strikers fail to take chances. I hate five at the back. Hate it more with a holding midfielder. Lavia was poor too. Hate all these changes too. I know we didn't win at Forest, but why not start Edozie and stick with four at the back? Lyanco and Carleta-Car were like a pair of clowns, underhitting square passes all night. We played two at the back for the last fifteen minutes. Amazing. Might have worked if we had anything at all in the final third. Only highlight was Stuart Armstrong assault to stop the late Forest attack.
  20. Christmas port not completely run out yet? Win, at Goodison. Imagine that happening, this season, of all seasons.
  21. Talksport know the square route of fuck all about how our transfer negotiations are going. Not convinced Moffi is the answer by the way.
  22. Was Perraud dropped due to injury or (as I got the impression) because NJ was not happy with is display against Brighton?
  23. wish we'd offered an insultingly pitiful amount to Monaco for Carrillo.
  24. If they offered £2m, then the first thing the seller would have done was say he wanted £4m. Also, that sounds like the story about Risdale offering Seth Johnson £30k a week when he was only looking for £13k a week...and then paying £37k a week in the end.
  25. The compensation to Luton was £2.5m according to many sources, rather than £4-5m. We don't know how much we paid off Ralph. His salary was guessed at £6m, and with 18 months left we would thus be legally required (potentially) to pay him £9m. There would be no choice - unless you mean the choice was to keep him or not? Also, his contract (and potential pay off if sacked) was agreed prior to SR coming in.
