  1. a men. I read a post asking where Bournemouths money comes from. It comes from not wasting it on Carillo and £100k-a-week-Austin etc.
  2. there's not been a lot to shout about other than Bertie in recent seasons, who is absolutely top class by the way and I have repeatedly told anyone that would listen after questioning his signing due to a poor loan spell at Villa. I did suggest Redmond on a HCDAJFU before anyone had ever heard of him and he's a player I enjoy watching. Anyone that can beat a man all hands up should be appreciated even if the end product is suspect, which includes Boufal. I like Ings, even if it was a poor signing IMO. Oh and Valery. He looks like he will be a proper player. . There a long list of players I am not a big fan of, shortened slightly by the departure of Targett, so I can understand why my positive comments may have got lost amongst them
  3. it pays to break transfer records first, because as soon as you do the market shifts and you end up spending fortunes on players that aren't the best around. Buy VVD now and he'd be worth £150m never mind £70m. All of which doesn't help us as we have none to sell (that anyone wants) but holes to fill, that will now cost us a fortune.
  4. Personally I'm not all that impressed by him. He is pretty slow and average in the air. His distribution and ability on the ball is not all that. He's committed and willing to chuck himself in front of things, which is great and his positional play isn't too bad, but because we've played five at the back so often he's hardly ever been exposed. Until we have two top quality CBs and midfielders in front pf them we will continue to ship goals or have to play five at the back, which limits our ability to dominate midfields.
  5. Whenever I have seen him, which isn't a lot to be fair, I actually didn't think he was that bad. Nice touch, reasonably composed and a decent passer. He didn't seem to have much of an engine. I am trying to think of the games he started, Newcastle or City at home and he faded badly after only about 50 minutes. He's certainly not a pacey winger, with tricks and crosses. He's not an all action dominating midfielder either. I guess the question is, what is he? A luxury? The difficult situation he came into hasn't helped him to be fair. That Hughes side was woeful. Obviously he was part of it, but if you have a side that is playing well its a lot easier to settle in and show what you can do. He's another that hasn't had a huge run of games, although Hughes gave him plenty of opportunities. Ralph clearly doesn't rate him, so that's the end of that.
  6. he played bloody well there too.
  7. A little gutted he joined those ****s. John was a bit of a legend at Donny. I've watched him a fair bit over the last few years and he's a decent player at that level and I thought a championship club would sign him this summer. Ran the skates ragged a few times, so no surprise they have bought him. Hopefully he will be be as effective as he was at Millwall. Losing Lowe will hurt them. He was a bit if gem.
  8. agreed. He is a little injury prone, but United have something like 7 CBs so not exactly short of cover should it be required. Maguire is massively overrated.
  9. disappointing, but utterly predictable. The only way to shift these guys is to pay a big chunk of their wages, like City did with Adebayor. Extremely painful to do that, but players wont leave for lower wages, and other clubs (without the riches of the Premier TV deals) are not going to match the wages. If we have three or four senior pros that can't even be part of the 25 player squad, then we may as well pay half or maybe even more of their wages. Better than paying 100%. I am guessing interested teams are waiting until last minute to squeeze every last penny from us.
  10. Tremendous underrated player, already with lots of Premiership and Spanish top flight experience, just coming into his prime and now interesting the likes of Ajax and AC Milan.
  11. widely reported that he refused to warm up during the game against Chelsea. Hughes went spare after the game and made him train with the kids.
  12. the bookies had him on a list, not sure the club did.
  13. if you believe the Mirror then he is on £10k a week at Saints. Birmingham paid him £18k a week, plus a £1.2m loan fee to Saints. Red****s Birmingham also paid £200k fee to the agent to broker the deal. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/birmingham-eye-watering-striker-loan-11060633 if you believe the Daily Mail then he is on £22k a week at Saints. Birmingham paid him £30k a week, plus a £1m+ loan fee to Saints. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4816874/Southampton-ace-Sam-Gallagher-pay-rise-Birmingham-loan.html if you believe HITC then he is on £24k a week https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/07/15/report-southamptons-sam-gallagher-wanted-by-sheffield-united-and/ if you believe Sportrac he earns £40k a week https://www.spotrac.com/epl/southampton-f.c/payroll/
  14. half decent left back cover. Better than Targett anyway.
  15. preferred the days when we were shouting "scummer" at Darren Anderton myself.
  16. love his athleticism and ability with the ball, but his decision-making (on occasion - sometimes it is the team not offering something and him trying to do too much) and positional play undermines these positives to such a degree that you wonder if he will ever make it in the Premiership. There is an absolute diamond in there, but how do you overcome the negatives? Coaching? He's 25, so you'd have to wonder if he will ever change his style. Perhaps a different position such as a more forward role? I hate seeing raw talent go to waste. Him and Boufal have it in abundance, and they can unlock a defence by beating a man all ends up. But the team needs to work as a unit and flair players, which both are, needs to be slotted into a side in such a way that their weaknesses dont effect the team.
  17. yeah, strange he has been so quiet

    Che Adams

Blues fans think £15m fee is a steal by the way. Not totally unsurprising, but they know a player when they see one (well, the bluenoses I know anyway).
  19. never liked him as a player, too slow, too weak, too passive and lacked a real football brain IMO. If we want to do better and win more games we simply need better players than Targett. We need to stop `settling' for OK and start signing players that the top six want. Onwards and upwards...hopefully.

    Che Adams

I posted as such several weeks ago. Jutkiewicz did the legwork and had a decent season. Adams on his own in a tougher league is a lot of new ground. I'm with you, a side that cant pass City et al off the park could do with a plan B route 1 option. Adams wont win more headers than Austin, which was **** all. Looking forward to a new option up front though. He's an Austin with a a bit more pace, though not lightening by any means. Hope he shines. Glad to see us looking at the lower leagues. There is talent there.
  21. it is genuine. The one in the club shop window looks exactly like this...it probably is the one in the club shop window.
  22. what a result for Saints that would be. Targett is not the answer at fullback. There are worse players, but if you want to beat the top sides you have to aim higher. Lets use it to get some pace and power
  23. Palace weaker, no doubt about it. Good for us.
  24. first season maybe not, but he'd hope to stay longer and not being able to revamp will give him some breathing space as expectations will be low. Maybe he has the talent there already anyway?
  25. imagine him up against Targett.
