Osvaldo and Ramirez were both hailed as signings that showed we were finally punching with some weight. Result: appalling failure and big disappointment. Most on here were underwhelmed with Mané and so-so with Wanyama, yet when they leave we're selling stars. VVD and Forster were great signings. Yes, we've had the odd flop, but most have developed into solid players or better - Bertrand for example. In most cases there is little correlation between the cost of a player and potential and i believe the majority of clubs are not able to recognise potential, or not prepared or able to see players grow, so they are drawn into throwing stupid money at the names being pushed hardest by agents on the basis of reputation or playing for a "big" club, even though the evidence doesn't hold up. My guess is that our final signings on this window will, as before, be totally off everyone's radar, not expensive, but hopefully will include a Mané or VVD. Players brought in already don't underwhelm me. They clearly have potential and i can't wait to see it develop. It's the Saints way, and long may it continue. Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
