He might find the Brighton project too good to turn down, and change his mind. Had Chelsea come calling,that might also have changed his mind on retiring. Although with their managerial turn over, his retirement date might well have been the same as getting sacked from there, anyway. 🙂

I think all parties are going to do well out of this one. As DM said, we wouldn't have got him without the set buy back fee. It's still a good profit for us. You never know, CIty may not want to exercise it (although it would seem daft not to, it is early days). It will also show any player who feels they are of a similar talent, that Southampton is a place where they will make a breakthrough into the premier league. No bad thing.
