The league is such a poor standard. It's not the same intensity as the Premier League. Lens are a well drilled side, with a couple of better players (Openda & Fofana, who have already left for big fees) and Samba was incredible in goal. If he made Ligue 1 team of the season, it says a lot about their league. I'm very surprised to see Transfermrket value him at €22m as well.
-
I follow Lens, they've been my "French team" since the late 90s when I had one of their hideous shirts as a kid. I watched around 10 of their games last season and he does a job at CB for them and he may have improved since being with us, but he's still very average. He was made to look better by their defensive record, which was mainly because Brice Samba is a very good goalie. ABK is better than him.

Mine arrived today.

Think Lavia will be a Liverpool player by the weekend. Fabinho's been unveiled at Al Ittihad, Henderson also gone, I wouldn't be surprised to hear some news tomorrow. Gone quiet on Salisu, I thought he had his medical at Monaco today?
-
Shame if he leaves IMO. He's a liability at Premier League level, but he'd be more than capable in the Championship. I'd let Lyanco, Stephens and Salisu go before him. Saying that, he doesn't fit with Martins "ball playing CB" mantra, but neither do the rest of our CB's.
-
I'm all for it. We obviously had to move on this deal as he had many admirers. Low cost, low risk. As others have pointed out, we still need some experience brought into the squad and I think we will once Lavia, JWP, Sulemana etc leave.
-
Not that I like Chelsea, but it would be funny if they hijacked the deal. Judging by Liverpool fans on Twitter, Lavia signed about 4 days ago. I forgot how much I genuinely dislike that lot until now.
-
I believe the stand behind the goal has pretty much sold out. It's still a "temporary" stand with no roof. The club have started selling two blocks on the side which does have a roof.

For me, the goalkeeper the main position that you don't take any risks with. This is the one position that we should scout differently to every other. We shouldn't be looking to scout goalies with the intent to make money with future transfers (i.e young with potential). We should scout experienced goalkeepers that will stay with us for a few years, who also have good shot stopping stats at our current level or above. This (along with many others) was a massive mistake by Sport Republic last season. Throwing a 20 year old into being a starting Premier League goalie, with no real experience above League 1 was catastrophic. I really hope he can come good this season, but there's already been two shockers against Goztepe and Reading, which puts a lot of doubts in people's minds, and rightly so.

Great fee for someone with 1 year left who clearly doesn't want to be here. Really had high hopes for Sali when he arrived, but he hasn't lived upto expectations.
-
Why couldn't they have found out he was shit after he signed?
-
Probably thinking Rasmus and Henrik can't even organise a pre season friendly let alone something which resembles a team.
-
A tad annoyed about the game being moved at such short notice to a third division sides ground that resembles an athletics stadium! Still looking forward to going over, 5 star all inclusive hotel for 3 nights isn't too shabby.
-
Great start to the window. He ticks every box and was an absolute no brainer. Knows Martins system and has a wealth of Championship experience. I hope he's a sign of things to come. Que many risky signings..

Going by Twitter, Lis is close to joining Goztepe.

I think there's positives and negatives regarding Jose coming back. The positives are he's a former fans favourite, experienced and a leader on the pitch. Also he'd be great off the pitch mentoring the less experienced players we have. You can tell from numerous interviews he's done over the last few years that he still has a great love for the club. The negatives are he's 39 with question marks over his current level in terms of ability, pace and overall defending. If he was to come back as a 3rd or 4th CB option with a view to coaching in the future, I wouldn't be against it.

Göztepe friendly has been pushed back a whole 15 minutes to 20:15pm KO their time, as its meant to be 35°c at kick off. Can see it getting pushed back to midnight if the temperatures online are accurate. I'm going over for it, can't wait.

Southampton fans from Salisbury and Basingstoke
Sfcphilc replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
Who actually cares where our supporters live? I know people that live in Basingstoke who go to more games than friends in Southampton. I'm technically an "out of city folk" as I moved from Totton to Salisbury 3 years ago. Suppose I'm a lesser fan now I've moved away 😢 -
If Tino goes for £15m I riot. Has to be at least £25m to even start conversations.
-
Wish they'd also do a version without sponsor. I think people would pay an extra £5 for a shirt without one.
-
I don't have the nostalgia that many have surrounding this shirt, as I wasn't born at the time! But I may purchase this shirt. I think it's a love/hate design. I like that they've used red in the sponsors logo so it blends in more than usual.

Need to tie Dom down to a new contract asap. He'll get his chances next season. Hopefully he doesn't make the same mistake as many academy players and join a top 6 club, only to be loaned out to the French second division and be sold after 3 years.
-
I think (and hope) he will come good next season. Obviously being thrown in as starting keeper in the Premier League at the age of 20 was too much, too soon for him. I still think there's alot of potential there and against less clinical strikers in the Championship his performances should improve. Also with a new GK coach incoming it might freshen our goalies up.
