Agree with this. Odd to spend such a chunk of our budget on him.
-
We’ve got an option on him according to Alfie House. Clearly Glasner doesn’t fancy him.
-
Jack Stephens started the League Cup Semi and Final back in the day…
-
Quite but the cynic in me can’t help but feel that if this lad was really close to being PL quality, they wouldn’t have all of these guys in front of him and continue to be spending huge sums on players that will push him further down the pecking order.
-
This is a pretty fair assessment but my issue is that, at the time we signed Schlotterbeck, Alfie House had clearly been briefed that he wasn’t the THB replacement. It’s a frustrating to have left such a crucial replacement so late (although not fully the club’s fault) and then get burned and have to settle for someone who clearly wasn’t near our top choice.
-
3 is not experienced, 13 is still not experienced which is clearly the point that was being made which you’ve just ignored for the sake of being pedantic.
-
Also they play 3 at the back, so he must be a fair way down the pecking order despite what all these Forest fans seem to be saying about him.
-
We are incredibly reliant on Larin staying fit and firing all season. If we have to go a long stretch relying on Mubama (and whoever is left on the bench) we will be in trouble considering we are unquestionably weaker at the back without THB and have also lost his goal threat.
-
3 or 13 it’s still the same point: We are replacing arguably the best CB in the division with someone with less than half a season of first team experience. It’s a big gamble for a club with ambition of automatic promotion.
-
Let’s be honest, if he was “absolute quality” he’d already be starting for Forest wouldn’t he? They are a mid table side…
-
Bit of a silly question, if he’s good no one will care. Think most are concerned that we will be considerably worse going from THB to a 20 year old from Forest. I suspect we will be starting Wood most of the season with this lad on the bench.
-
Exactly, it may be that our top targets were over ambitious but surely there are other options rather than a 20 year old youth prospect….
-
Having more than a handful of first team appearances is a start…
-
Whether anyone had heard of them or not is irrelevant. The other two options had significantly more experience and pedigree, I think that’s fairly obvious. One of them was a full international that played at the World Cup and another had a full season at a top flight team in Spain. Either of them sounded a fairly good bet to replace our best player. Both clear upgrades on Wood and Stephens. A young lad that’s played a handful of games for a team that were pretty crap last year isn’t quite the same thing. It’s a huge risk to throw a young lad in against Kieffer Moore and the likes. The downside is that we are back to starting one of Wood or Stephens and in an upside scenario it’s a straight loan and so goes back to Forest… it’s not hard to see why folks are underwhelmed here, we are selling our best player and loaning a youth prospect from a mid table PL team as a replacement…
-
We’ve clearly lost out on a number of targets this summer in my view. We clearly wanted Lankshear before the price went too high (will be a mistake to have not paid up in my view) and clearly we’ve been aiming for these defenders only to be priced out once the selling clubs knew we had £25m in our pockets… We’ve taken two pretty big risks in Mubama and now Abbott. On the plus side, we should hopefully have some flexibility if we are promoted this year having spent quite modestly.
-
Come on. We’re about to sell our best player and the replacement is a 20 year old on loan from a lower mid table PL club. He might turn out to be decent, but surely wasn’t the Club’s first choice. As others have said, we’ve banked the best part of £60m this summer and the replacements for those two players will reportedly have cost less than £1m. Does suggest our finances aren’t amazing.
-
Yikes that is disappointing. We’ve surely known THB was gonna go all window….
-
I think we will end up getting the Norwegian CB. I think at this time in the window it’s not really worth following the minute by minute tweets as things change quickly and what’s being reported probably isn’t current information. I can’t see us letting THB leave and not replacing him.
-
Great result. When are big players are firing we can beat anyone. Glad to hear Schlotterbeck had a good game, good feeling about him.

Fellows! Finally!

Azaz!

Larin!

I don’t get our pre season at all. Weak opposition and don’t look fit as a result. Weird.
-
We are miles off It this season, absolutely miles.

The problem is the team is significantly weaker than it was at that time. We don't have THB in the team as he is unsettled/being sold, we don't have a Charles replacement to come off the bench and inject energy and, injury prone or not, Stewart was a big, physical striker that caused Premier League defences problems when he wanted to. We've replaced him with (yet) another Man City youth player who, whilst he has qualities, isn't anywhere near the same level as a fit and firing Stewart.
