  1. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-eye-transfer-paulo-dybala-4531046#rlabs=2 Never heard of him myself but once called the new Aguero. Available on the cheap as contract expired in the summer.
  2. I want to go to bed!
  3. Indeed. What could be more appropriate?
  4. A little googling shows that the Septic Isle has a Morrisons, ASDA and Sainsbury.
  5. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/28/football-transfer-rumours The Sun reports that Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is lining up a £10m bid for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, with the Dutch manager having apparently surveyed his current options up front and decided that what he really needs is somebody who isn’t quite as good as them.
  6. I'd prefer they go out at the first round to Eastleigh. Much funnier for us and less money for them.
  7. 2-1 Shrewsbury. Another bad day at the office!
  8. Have to agree with this as Portsmouth Council have statutory housing targets like every other local authority and it's the obvious answer as it would be a whole load of housing or apartments at one go, including affordable housing, which saves the Council messing around with lots of other smaller housing sites that will all meet with various levels of local objection even if it is allocated housing land under the Local Development Plan. The issue for Robinson is that he would have to re-apply for new planning permission as there's no way he could attempt to vary the existing permission for a superstore for new housing. And that costs him money that he owes to his lenders. Even if a new outline housing application for the site was put together by Robinson and fast tracked by the Council planners, it's still another 18 months away at least due to the legal requirement for more public consultation etc. That'll hurt Robbo big time!
  9. WTF? The latest from Jordan Cross, Neil Allen's acolyte. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/basketcase-days-are-gone-so-embrace-stability-1-6372635 Lee Clark made the call to Andy Awford on Sunday. The Birmingham boss, who was sacked 24 hours later, knew his fate was coming at St Andrews. But he still found time to call his old pal, whose friendship, which stretches back to their England under-21 days, endures. Awford had been plunged into what he himself described as ‘a difficult couple of days’ in the wake of the low watermark of the season at Bury. Being buffeted by the winds along Southsea seafront in some last-ditch Great South Run training, allowed the Pompey boss the thinking time he needed in the wake of the Gigg Lane collapse. It prompted some of the most significant surgery on his team in a season which has, rightly or wrongly, become associated with match-to-match change. The faces contorted with anger who aimed their flak in the Pompey boss’ direction in the wake of Saturday’s defeat, were noted. It followed the smattering of boos which peppered an overall mooted response from home fans in the face of the draw with Mansfield. We are told there is no such thing as a must-win game, unless it’s a defining fixture. That’s exactly what the Stevenage clash felt like for a man going into his biggest game of the season, if not his time in the Fratton Park hotseat. The average tenure for a manager in the Premier League now is less than two years, such is the crazy world of football. Pressure for instant results and success create that stark raving bonkers pressure-cooker environment. Tuesday’s meeting with Graham Westley’s side arrived seven months after Awford came into the job – and in his team’s 14th league game. The axe fell on Guy Whittingham after 16 league fixtures with Richie Barker seen as the man to improve things. He made it to 20. So the managerial turnaround hasn’t reflected the stability Pompey are now beginning to enjoy. The hysterical catcalls from some supporters to results contributes to the heat rising. Some older Pompey fans put it down to the generation who grew up watching Premier League football growing agitated. Others would simply point to a poor run of results. Whatever the contributing factors, the angst has been palpable. The tirade Awford launched at the fourth official on Tuesday night, in the wake of a nip-and-tuck decision over Borough keeper Chris Day handling outside the area, said it all. And, just as the apprehension was felt on Tuesday, so was the relief in the aftermath of victory. This was about as typical an advert for League Two football as you will ever get. Pretty is was not. But if ever a three points were more important than the spectacle for Awford, this was the time. Mrs Awford tells her hubby his biggest strength is his biggest weakness: His confidence. There’s a difference between confidence and arrogance, though. Awford isn’t too arrogant to change things when needed. Not all his predecessors can say the same thing. A back-to-basics approach was borne out of a desire to ensure players were left in no uncertain terms about their duties. It worked. It’s clear enough this is still a Pompey team in search of its identity, in a league where inconsistency is the one constant. After a run of seven managers in five years, this club is no longer the ‘basket-case’ that stat was used to reinforce, though. Clark’s former employers at St Andrews seem keen on that moniker these days. It’s stability, in all areas, we need to embrace around these parts.
  10. Aldi, Lidl and Waitrose don't operate superstores.
  11. Morrisons objected to the Tesco as they have a store nearby. There is also an ASDA and a Sainsburys on the Septic Isle. Nobody else builds big box supermarkets so I think Robinson could have very limited options.
  12. Drennan - hero to zero in the comments section. Only a couple of weeks ago the News was talking up his international call up (to Rep Ire U21s). http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/striker-bids-pompey-farewell-1-6371198
  13. No 'warriors' or 'heroes' reported yet by the News but it's only a matter of time. I expect at least three more articles on the stirring Stevenage victory at Fortress Fratton. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/awford-lauds-players-after-big-result-1-6371194
  14. Total dinosaur.
  15. Sad to see. Great actress.
  16. Another pundit with something against Saints, Crooks tipped us to go down at the start of the season and has been grudging on BBC Final Score ever since. This week he managed to select Tadic as the only Saint whilst selecting three Everton defenders and Liverpool's Skrtel in defence. He also picked Matic and Fabregas of Chelsea in midfield. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29681650 Presumably he is basing this on the fact that Sunderland were rubbish but they were only rubbish once we had dominated them, right? So while Everton played well and didn't concede against Villa, Villa are a team who have only scored four goals all season - the Premiership's lowest! Where's the logic? Liverpool let in two goals against QPR in a messy game yet Skrtel is picked. Where's the logic? Chelsea had a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace yet Crooks picks two Chelsea central midfielders over any of Saints central midfielders despite the fact that we took the Sunderland midfield apart. Where's the logic? I have to say that Crooks is a shocking pundit anyway and it makes me mad that he gets paid with my BBC licence money to be so poor and narrow minded. Rant over!
  17. Awford is getting shown up big stylee Tbf I don't mind the man but it's clear that he's an amateur fumbling around like the rest of them involved in the set up.
  18. More changes for their game tomorrow apparently. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/awford-targets-team-changes-for-pompey-1-6366486 As we know from Awford's comments a couple of weeks ago they're due to "give somebody a tonking."
  19. Just checked the threads and I can't find Alpine Saint. Has he had a coronary? Do we need to alert the Austrian emergency services?
  20. 0-0 - bore draw 1-0 - sneaky win 2-0 - comfortable win 3-0 - excellent win 4-0 - thrashing 5-0 6-0 7-0 8-0 Fill in the gaps.
  21. Awford might be the current manager but just look at his eyes in this post match interview... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-boss-needs-to-lift-troops-1-6365906
  22. Some guy on the News comments: Forward Defensive 9:13 PM on 18/10/2014 No surprise we lost today. Away to the strongest side in the league in my opinion. Got them before the season to win the division at 8/1. But we need 442 or 433 on Tuesday with a fast tempo. Fans are getting restless and I can understand why. * With the best will in the world how would you judge Bury to be the L2 2015 winners before the 2014-2015 season started? I smell nonsense there from that fan! * The problem with 442 or 433 at a fast tempo ignores the basic issues that their squad is actually a mediocre L2 squad, no matter how Neil Allen dresses it up. * The ranks are getting restless. A mix of Pompey are too big to be in L2 anyway and Andy Awford might not be the man after all. Will Champagne Iain pull the trigger again?
  23. Assuming they got to the 3rd round of the FA Cup which looks unlikely, I would prefer that we had a match against the Skates at Fratton to deny them a larger yield of the 50/50 gate money and to thrash them there anyway. Not going to happen though.
  24. Superb. Had to laugh at the sulking buddha Garth Crooks afterwards on BBC. So very grudging.
  25. Luvverley
