One person totally left field and I only say this as I have just finished his autobiography is Duncan Ferguson. He worked under some top managers at Everton (including Ancellotti and Koeman) and they were very positive in his coaching/man management. Did well when he was caretaker manager for Everton and also at Inverness under really difficult financial circumstances.
It seems to be our best managers have been the ones who were top footballers when they were playing - Bally, Strachan, Hoddle, Koeman, Poch so I wonder if Viera, Carrick or Gerrard would be a good shout and could work.
I’m convinced apart from up front (which I’m sure will be addressed in Jan) and possibly GK we have a squad that many managers would love to work with. It just needs that one manager with the charisma, personality and confidence to get them going. It’s not a bad job and surely anyone confident in their ability would believe they can get a tune out of the players and get into top 6 - there are enough points to play for.
Needs more time but as others have said we have seen this many times before with managers not up to it and we have left them in place too long before getting rid. Minimum of 5 points in next 3 games or he will be on very thin ice.
Sunderland doing everything in this game that we failed to do last year. Defending well, incisive forward passing, taking their chance when it came. They have a decent chance of staying up I think.
Good managers can get their teams organised and playing in a style they want even in a few training sessions (think Pochettino , even Martin) so what the hell have we been doing all this time?
Really like WS and want him to do well but the league performances so far have been basically insipid. Lose today and the pressure is on big time I think.
