I still think the biggest mistake SR has made was letting him go.

I think we need more than a pretty decent Championship side to finish in the top 2. We only managed 4th last time and that was with Adams, Bednarek, Walker Peters and Brooks. Downs was a big player for us that season but has had a poor season, patchy health to say the least and a falling out which saw him looking for a transfer. I think we are several players short of competing for top 2. In particular, creative midfielders, good wingers and a reliable goalkeeper.

I think it's going to be very entertaining watching Russell's progress at Rangers. I just feel sorry for the Rangers fans. Somehow, I can't see them being quite as reserved as the Saints fans in their criticism of Englishman Martin.

Nobody thinks that, obviously. But, it would have bbeen more useful to see young promising players such as Robinson, Wellington and Edwards starting the last warm up match, ahead of the likes of Fraser, Manning and Bree.

To be fair, I thought he looked better than Manning in his few cameos last season before he was inexplicably dropped.

Fans are more knowledgeable than you make out. The frustration is that in this window we are leaving it very late to fix some glaring deficiencies ( goalkeeper, winger, creative midfielder). If we just needed one player then most fans would be more relaxed. The other frustration is that by bringing players in earlier they can be integrated before the season gets underway.

And on the wing

I don't think it's that simple. At the moment I feel we need to buy a number 1 goalkeeper, a creative midfielder and a winger who can beat players and deliver a decent cross, regardless of what happens to Dibling and Fernandes.
