If, and it's a big IF, if the judge did agree that they are insolvent, and if they beat us on Saturday (which they should lets face it), would we have a case of recourse, against the Goverment!!! Open to the floor;)

See...this is the thing Grrrrrrrrrr:mad:. I heard Alan Brazil say to a fishy type this morning, the he hopes the courts give them a second chance. Dohhhhhhhhh Alannnn!!!!!, this is their second chance, remember 10 years ago, when they defaulted on payments, and went into administration, many small firms lost money that day. Did Poopey learn anything, nah!!, that's why they are in court again.

SSN...HMRC reject a cash offer from Poopey...the fat lady has opened her mouth!!!

The only people who can help them on the adjournment side of things, are HMRC. They've had since October to seek adjournment, they've had since October to find new finance. they've had since last week for their 'new' owner to settle this tax bill (now around 15 mil). The paltry sum of 1.8 mil, is possibly the tax owed on their two January sales. Those moneys recieved (tax), should have gone to HMRC, they didn't........... Bye Bye Poopy

Indeed it is, and this extract below, is the main reason HMRC want blood!! The priority given to football debts explains why the Premier League withheld Ports*mouth's £7m January TV payment and some of the £5m fee from selling Younes Kaboul to Tottenham, then used the money to pay other clubs, while Pompey's £7.5m tax and VAT bill was left unpaid.HMRC's tougher stance, hitting eight clubs with winding-up petitions this season, reflects deep frustration with the *historic trail of clubs going into administration and the football-*creditors rule. While all football debts have been paid in full for the clubs who have *continued in business, since 2003 HMRC has been left with about £30m of outstanding taxes unpaid. The tax debt is directly linked to overspending on *players; huge wages carry tax at 40%, which is deducted from pay packets but not passed on to HMRC by clubs which have plunged into difficulties.

.....The Pompey manager, Avram Grant, who received a red card for approaching the referee to protest against a penalty decision, asked the high court to remember the unique role of a football club. "It's not a clear, normal business," he said. "It's not like an apartment that you buy without feelings. Here there are feelings, of players, fans, and also mine. The court needs to think it [also] belongs to 250,000 people. I think the club needs to stay alive – this is even more important than football." Yeh right, 250 more like.....where were these fans last night??.

There are plenty on e-bay, and I'm led to believe, that there might be a few more coming up for sale soon;)

Now here is a novel idea, as hinted before. Saints buy Poopey from the administrator for '99p'. Then tell Chainrai he can stick his football ground, rename them Southampton reserves or somesuch, and we will be playing with certainty, in the Championship next season, maybe even the Premier..... Yeh I know, no way that will happen;)

They have infact, said they employ 600 people.....hope it's a bloody big calculator;);) dubai_phil Full Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Getting the Killer Attack Tortoises into shape Posts: 7,263 Nothing much new in any of those press articles that hasn't been discussd on here, except for the gem that the skates are Portsmouth's 2nd largest employer with 600 over half of whom are part-time. So obviously the council isn't very big then, and nice spin chaps. My feelings - everything makes sense, HMRC would listen to the arguments and in normal circumstances would likely adjourn leaving the sword of Damocles hanging over them. However, they did that before and they got ignored. You can take the p1ss once, you can likely take it twice, but trying the same trick a third time? Needs a new angle if it's going to work

Do the papers in fact, know anything. They say 'new owner Chainrai is locked in talks', correct me if I'm wrong, he has not as yet, passed the PL F & PPT, and until that happens, will not be reconised by said body, as the new owner. This is still a smoke and mirrors exercise IMHO, and hope that HMRC do not fall for this bullsh!t, the way some fans have.
