  1. AA vs the football authorities? I know who my money would be on....
  2. ^My money is on this I fear CSI were paying Chanrai installments, effectively buying Poertsmouth Football Club on hire purchase (?) If I were to buy a car on hire purchase then right up until I pay my last installment the car is still owned by the company I bought it from, isn't it? I don't "own" it as such before then? With AA coming back into the frame this has got all the hallmarks of another "getting away with it" chapter in PFC's recent history...
  3. Agree, this is technically different to SLH vs SFC You'd have thought so. All "the club" has to do to avoid going into administration is prove that it is a 'going concern' in its own right....simple as that....
  4. I don't think parents' main gripe is about the "inconvenience" to them, indeed it will actually make my day a whole lot easier tomorrow as I will be working at home rather than traipsing up into London as per usual. The main gripe (as I see it) is that it affects the children's education. Parents are forever being preached to about not taking kids out of school during term time for holidays etc but, all of a sudden it's OK to do it when the boot is on the other foot. Ok, "It's only one day" I hear you say....but I would get the same inquisition if I took my child out for one day or two weeks. It's either "OK" to disrupt the children's education or it's not. Surely?
  5. I may be missing something somewhere but you must have a rough ideas to know that it's a "significant minority"? Unless you're going on anecdotal evidence rather than stangible stats? (not saying that is an invalid stance to take) To me, a "significant minority" of anything would be at least in teh double figures percentage wise.
  6. "The Club" isn't in adminstration though....yet....
  7. Don't forget to keep the receipt...
  8. Ask him to highlight the potential "conflict of interests" with the Administrator perhaps...?
  9. Isn't there some kind of 'vested interest' company law that prevents the an administrator administrating a company that took over the company they previously administered? Doesn't sound right at all to me....but, there again, since when has the adminstration industry ever been subject to any regulation whatsoever?
  10. How small (roughly)? 1%? 2%? 5%? 10%?
  11. I guess what I was trying to get at (somewhat provocatively just for once) is whether the size of public pension schemes ultimately depend on (in part) a bouyant banking system. As such, and stretching the credibility of my logic somewhat (if indeed there was any credibility in the first place) for striking public sector workers to be calling for swinging tax grabs on the banks to fill the various gaps that exist in our economy is ultimately self defeating. Just a thought.

  13. Is the school staying open as a result? (just for those classes whose teachers are in) My son's school is closing completely because they can't provide a "safe environment" for the children.
  14. I think I've asked this question many moons ago, but can't remember the answer.... Does "the state" invest a percentage of public section pension fund(s) in private investment schemes? If they do, doesn't that bring us full circle?
  15. There is a timeline cushion for these current reforms.....anyone within 10 years of retirement will stay on existing terms. One of the compromises that gets conveniently swept under the carpet when 'justifying' strike action.
  16. Why does the school let them get away with it? I thought schools were supposed to be bastions and champions of disciplined behaviour?
  17. Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I would agree, that unemployed parents dropping off children without getting them ready for school properly isn't right. (Andy's statement that led me to question the "creche" remark was a rather sweeping statement, hence seekign clarification). So, what we can conclude is that all decent parents don't use schools as a "creche"? p.s. out of interest, does your wife's school actually offer an 8am - 5pm drop-off / pick-up service or are these bad parents taking the michael on the time front too (regardless of how well looked after their children are)?
  18. Phew. I thought I was alone.
  19. I don't understand what you mean. Example perhaps?
  20. Tories? Itching for a fight with the unions? What an equally ridiculous notion... ;-)
  21. Unions? Itching for a fight? What a ridiculous notion...
  22. The very same Fred Goodwin that was revered and knighted by the union funded Labour Party...? I must have missed the strikes and protests on the streets that week... Sigh
