Having to play our 3rd choice keeper is only slightly better than having to field a lanky defender who fancies his talent in goal IMO. At this moment, Gazza is our best option and we have to deal with it. We really should get off his back and let him develop.

However, rather than dwell on the lack of squad depth, I acknowledge that it is early days back in the top flight, and the issue will have been recognised, and will be dealt with when the opportunities arise. We have not risen this far, this quickly without paying attention to detail and addressing issues like these as they become clear.

Lack of confidence from the stand-ins, I would say.

On the brighter side, I see nothing to suggest that when the first team gets back together, they will have lost their core team control. The remaining fit players are, for the most part keeping their skills intact during this spell. Our return to a fully fit team would see us complaining about our final third again more than our woeful recent defence. I honestly believe that we will get back to what we were before the injuries. (Edit: I mean form-wise not in terms of league position)
