  1. In fairness, he was talking about the past.
  2. Originally, in the past. But if you think this country is anything like it was 100 years ago, 200 years ago and further back, then you are stupider than I supposedly am! We have changed and moved on.
  3. Why do you always have to bring out the age card? You have absolutely no idea what I do with my life and what I have experienced or not experienced. I am aware that our History is a Christian one and that many of practices originally came from that Religion. But the question was, are we STILL that Christian country? Do our citizens still believe in a Christian God and practice Christianity in their everyday lives? Is God still important to the majority of people as it was in the past? The answer, evidence suggests is no.
  4. Because of our History. Let's take another look in 50 years and then a 100, though I suppose we'll all be dead by then. I predict one by one, these little practices will die just like the traditional Christmas has died and been replaced by some sort of consumer-fest/familytime.
  5. That's the point, for an atheist or non-Christian believer, what is the point of swearing on the Bible except symbolic! It doesn't really mean anything in itself. If I was in court, I'd tell the truth because A. I believe in the justice system and B. It's the law, not because of the Bible.
  6. Because we once were a Christian country. Today, it is largely symbolic. Our law isn't upheld by God.
  7. History is one thing, and of course our History is a Christian one, but today most people simply aren't that Christian. They don't read the Bible, abide by what the Bible says and they don't attend church or even see God as a large part of their life. To be Christian is to try to emulate and be like Christ. No way do we in our country try to that. And I object to the idea of 'Christian values' as Christianity does not have a monopoly on certain values. There are just values, and some Modern Christians decide to adopt these values as their own. For sure though, we don't follow Christianity that closely in this country. For example, we don't stone adulterers... even if our past was Christian, it doesn't really matter to most people in their everyday lives anymore. I'm not saying as a whole, we are an atheist country, we are just very apathetic to it all.
  8. Because people live the church weddings, not because they are religious, but for the romantic feel of it. A lot of it is just tradition. Also, Christmas's date was set because of a compromise between it and paganism. A lot of our religious stuff comes from that compromise, which I think was Constantines idea? Someone with a bit more knowledge of it all will be able to fill in the gaps. In short, religions have been stealing other religions ideas and dates for ages. Many people celebrating Christmas today let it have nothing to do with Christ... it's just the date to have family over and exchange gifts. Why not another day? Because it evolved out of the traditional religious Christmas.
  9. A lot of girls who are 16 yearish have boyfriends in their 20's which I find odd at times. I don't really know how I feel about it(not really my business!), but I guess once they get beyond a certain age(i.e 18 when they are an adult), it's up to them.
  10. Yes, but I don't think all of those people are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas day. I think Christmas is largely secular these days for many. And I don't think the amount of people Christened and married in churches shows that we are religious. I was christened, more out of tradition, but it is happening less and less these days... and more and more are opting for non-church marriages as well, but many who aren't religious get married in churches anyway because they like the backdrop because of how it'll look in photos etc That's what is happening in my generation anyways.
  11. I'm 19, on a gap year so no Easter holidays for me, just work. Not that I ever looked forward to it for christian reasons, more just time off college! Going to Uni next year. I hope you can know address my points without playing the age card.
  12. My local hospital is cutting millions in 'efficiency savings'. A lot of it is welcome, and most is just great money saving or will just result in hospitals becoming more specialised so you'll just have to travel further for treatment which will provide difficulty for many. Much that isn't like that is affecting waiting times and decisions over how much of what can be done and when. This is all well documented though! Though, in my opinion, it is about time we sat down and worked out what we want and need the NHS to do. Reform of a kind I guess, but not these reforms.
  13. Having it on Christmas Day is quite convenient.
  14. We aren't a Christian country anymore. We are overwhelmingly apathetic to religion on the whole(note that I'm not claiming we are an atheist country) and the more interesting stats of that survey show that, the stats showing how many people actually consider God to be an important part of their life. The Christmas argument is bogus as well. Everyone I know celebrates in a let's have a good old meal, drink lots and see family as well as of course the exchanging of gifts. Jesus's birth is neither mentioned, nor important anymore to a lot of families. Obviously, to many it still is and that is fair enough. But it's meaning has evolved for many beyond Christ and for a lot of people, it's just family time now. I also do know Muslims who treat it simarly; I expect due to the national holidays surrounding it.
  15. Well, I sent them a very brief and quick email in the contact us bit, though I think that just goes to Saintsfc... but we'll just have to wait and see what they say. ''Dear Club Player, At the beginning of this season, the price per month of club player was risen. The rise was justified along with the promise that the quality of highlights videos would be increased. However, since this time, there has been no rise in the quality of the videos on club player from the 1MB it has always been. Are there any plans to raise video quality to the level promised to customers(HD) at the time of the price rise? If so, when do you plan to implement this upgrade, and if not why has this promise failed to materialise? Yours Sincerely, ***********''
  16. Tbh, I wouldn't even know how to go about it properly. And I've deleted the original email as well I suspect. Edit: I guess I could send them a quick email enquiring as to where it is.
  17. They did, they sent out an email if I remember correct saying they are upping it by 30p or whatever a month, but that for this 30p we would get HD video and they needed the extra cash to support this upgrade. Obviously total bull****.
  18. That has annoyed me a bit too!
  19. It's reliability is pretty crap. Sometimes, videos inexplicably don't work for a while, and live commentary can be dogey as well. I keep up with it though because it eventually does work, the highlights are pretty good and getting the commentary from the away matches I don't attend is nice too.
  20. Well, you know, I do live in a liberal household...
  21. I think Cameron is a very weak Prime Minister, and I think the Conservatives could do a lot better than him. William Hague, is just one of the many(was leader at the wrong time really)who would be much better in my opinion, not that I agree with him at all on most things.
  22. I love watching the last bit of the proms each year. Even if I do think it is all a bit silly, it's all fun and the music is great stuff.
  23. I love Jerusalem. The music is good.
  24. What's your favourite Hymn, Turkish?
  25. Been there once, don't remember it being particularly special. But the surrounding country is beautiful.
