While I think it's a mistake and wonder what they saw in his CV that appealed so much that noone else in the top tier could see he gets my support for the rest of the season if nothing for that he's been hugely brave to take on such a tough job as turning us around... We look doomed i really hope he can instill some grit passion and work ethics and bring the best out of what we have however I think four or five losses and fans (not management) will be giving him a tough ride. We do need to sign that quality striker now anything less Is doing him a disservice, Ralph wasn't given a decent striker though he didn't get the most out of the other players either
-
That's true but particularly applied to people who have made the step up to the premier league
-
I hope he does well and time will tell as you say a huge gamble, but should it all go tits up who is to blame as we don't even know who in the senior management structure appointed him?
-
I guess the only saving grace is he will want to do well as it will probably be his only chance at the premier league and he will want to make a name for himself

Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?
Mr X replied to Rivers's topic in The Saints
Totally agree with this a lot of players are surely going to throw their toys out the pram and a colossal disaster will ensue -
So say he loses the next ten games SR aren't going to pull the trigger on him we all know that.. so basically they accept this may go wrong and there's a good chance we will be playing championship football next season and they are fine with that

Sky just reported it was 2.5 million

Will there be any anti-Jones protests at the game tonight?
Mr X replied to once_bitterne's topic in The Saints
Can't really protest against.what hasn't officially been announced? -

I voted no the guy clearly has some talents to do what he's done at Luton with mediocre players but now is not the right time for such a huge gamble! -

It's hard to trust them though isn't it as they had the opportunity for change at the end of last season and stuck with Ralph and now they are going to make a change mid season! It was clear a fresh change at the start would have given the new manager a full pre season and the best opportunity of gelling the team -
Would you say Nathan Jones has quality then?
-
I can't see him refraining from bringing god to the table in team talks as most Christians are like vegans they tell you in the first 30 seconds.... That said we were originally a church team & we are called the saints so maybe a perfect match! 😂
-
He was there for the taking too... Why the hell didn't the club get rid of Ralph at the end of last season that would have allowed us to get someone decent and give them a full pre season!
-
So basically a guy with four years premier League experience can't get us winning games but a lower league manager with no premier League experience can?
-
For the love of god (that ones for you jonesie) please let this be a smokescreen story the club fed to the media and we aren't seriously putting all our eggs in a championship basket!
-
I'm still in shock... They've had months and months if not the last year to think about who's going to replace Ralph... And we get an unproven championship manager.... Really wanted the feel good factor back at the club.... Literally noone is excited about this appointment except sports Republic it seems
-
Footballers have egos as we all know how are they possibly going to look up to and respect a manager that hasn't achieved anything at all at a high level either in this country or the equivalent abroad? Or even as a player?
-
Not sure why the club thought he was the answer to a relegation battle.... Time is not on our side have and he will be under pressure for positive results, can we afford to gamble on someone to find their ropes in the premier League with no prior experience.. not only that but no experience at a high level abroad either...they obviously think so
