I've actually always thought that the preconceived gender roles imposed by society on young girls in particular with reference to the barbie girl archetype impose unrealistic body image standards that lead to severe self esteem issues especially in the teenage years. This issue is exacerbated by the actions of a misogynistic Hollywood that markets teen movies showing "15/16" year olds with fully developed busts and waists portrayed by anorexic actresses in their 20s leaving developing young women depressed and confused.

Feminism is hard I'm a chartered accountant? I can buy them pretty things in lieu of any redeeming characteristics?

Where exactly did I say sexism doesn't exist? If you are saying women should be incentivized towards particular careers by being paid more than their male counterparts then I respectfully disagree wholeheartedly.

My point was that there is no meaningful wage gap within professions not on the societal pressures facing each gender. I fully accept that there are certain careers that are male dominated and female dominated and there should probably be some work put into addressing the effects of gender roles in this rather than focusing on a non existent problem.

With respect to the wage gap Lou it's a myth now, in fact it has gone in the other direction. With notable exceptions women are paid more for the same position and more women are studying further and graduating than men.

And South Africa (in Africa) has one of the most liberal constitutions in the world. My Point was merely that saying that oppressive regimes are isolated to two geographical locations is a load of crap.

Eastern Europe and South America are hardly picnic spots.
